October 2021 WWW.CELTICCROSS.CHURCH Unity of Faith Most important of all, love each other! “Love is what holds you all together in perfect unity. Colossians” 3:14 NLT A few years ago, I remember Rick Warren reminding a group of pastors that “Hurt people, Hurt people.” If you find someone who's hurting other people, if you dig deep enough, you will find that they have been hurt in some way. The people that deserve it the least are those who need the most massive doses of love. I believe that is why Jesus said to love our neighbor and the apostle Paul encouraged the early church to let love be the message of the church. Henry Cloud, the author of the book “Boundaries” suggests that we consider the other person’s situation. Furthermore, he teaches that we can make use of better questions. Cloud recommends that when see people do things that irritate you, don’t ask or think “What's wrong with them?"’ Cloud says we should ask this question: "What happened to them?’” “What stressful event led them to feel that way? “ This approach will lead us down the path of loving our neighbor as ourselves. Christ followers have come to appreciate Jesus’s command to love one another. Let’s practice putting this love into action by asking better questions. Instead of saying or thinking "That just irritates me to no end.” You might want to ask yourself, "What's wrong with me?" Maybe we can ask this question, "What happened to you? What triggered that thought or feeling?” Let’s learn to ask better questions. Let’s Deacon News practice and celebrate the love that binds us together in Vickie Tabarango is one of our newer Deacons. She the body of Christ. has been a member of Celtic Cross for about 3 years. She states is what she appreciates most about our Pastor BOB church are the people and Pastor Bob’s sermons. Stewardship Treasurer’s Report—August 2021 By John David, Stewardship Elder Budget Actual YTD YTD Income: $ 298,749 $ 292,172 YTD Expenses: $ 298,749 $ 280,767 I have been on the job long enough to see the reports Variance: $ (11,405) of how we at Celtic Cross are doing from a Stewardship perspective. We are sustaining the sharing of our treasures in a time that challenges us all. Your commitment remains strong and that is a real blessing. I enjoyed attending our first traditional service and saw first-hand the sharing of our time and talents. I watched the extra effort that goes into providing the service online and after the service watched Pastor Bob alerting Norm Allen and Dwayne Decker to a maintenance issue. We are truly blessed to enjoy the talents of so many people. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace. 1 Peter 4:10 www.celticcross.church/give or text GIVE to 916-967-1414 YOUTH & KIDS MINISTRY By Jim Staniels, Director of Family Ministries, jimstaniels@celticpc.org , (818) 497-2023 It’s October and time to gear up for Trunk or Treat! It’s time for our annual spooktacular “Trunk or Treat”, Saturday, October 30th from 4 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot of Celtic Cross Church. We will return to having individual stations instead of a drive thru this year and are especially excited about hosting a much larger event which creates more interaction with the community. To do this, we will need a lot of help from YOU! When I talk to people throughout our community about Celtic Cross Church, the overwhelming majority say something to me like, “You’re the church who hosts Trunk or Treat. We really love that!” It’s so good to learn we are known for something special we do each year for the community. We do want to become known for more than our annual “Trunk or Treat,” but what a great first step! I honestly love seeing the joy and excitement on all the faces of those who help run a station or proudly show off their deco- rated cars or trucks. Our community gets excited to see how our church members creatively step up and really go the extra mile to decorate their vehicles in true Halloween style. It’s just so much fun to be a part of an event like this. The youth and students of Celtic Cross also get really excited about this special event every year! We will be collecting individually wrapped candy and pumpkins at all our services. We also need volunteers to sign up to help run stations such as the giant slide, maze, obstacle course, preschool zone, crafts and more. We will also need as many people as possible to volunteer to decorate their cars and then help to hand out candy. Most im- portantly we need YOU to invite the people you know to come and enjoy this joyful event! I can’t wait to work with you to help make this year’s “Trunk or Treat” the very best one yet!

Second Sunday in October – Clergy Appreciation Day Our pastor Bob Yule ministers to our church, live and via video, and our community. We are blessed by Pastor Bob who seeks to be obedient to God and who shares God’s Word and ways with all of us. He is also praying for us. We thank God for giving us a Pastor like him. May each of us find a way to honor Pastor Bob this month. May we also recognize Jim Staniels, for his faith and creativity as he helps to grow the faith of our children, youth and parents of our church and community. Jim, may you know God is by your side, and we are blessed to have you with us. “Stand firm in the faith, Be Brave, Be Strong, let all you do be done in Love.” l Cor 16:13-14 Pray for National Faith and Blue Weekend Oct 8-11 This weekend encourages prayer for every major national law enforcement membership and professional organization across the United States and every faith tradition.
