TEQ to launch new service for industry
TEQ is launching a new industry media agency that will allow Queensland’s tourism and
events businesses to leverage TEQ’s media, partnerships and research.

From 1 April 2020, TEQ's new 'Industry Media Agency for Tourism and Events' (IMATE)
will provide Queensland’s tourism businesses and event proponents with greater insights
into TEQ’s marketing activities, media strategy and campaigns, and access to learning
resources. The service also aims to provide industry with opportunities to align with and
leverage TEQ’s media activity and provide media planning and buying services to
maximise return on media investment.

After a comprehensive tender process, TEQ has appointed Ikon Brisbane as the agency
partner to deliver this service for TEQ and industry. This appointment replaces TEQ’s
previous contract with advertising sales agency Dtb!. We thank Dtb! for their valuable
work over the past four years.

TEQ will continue to collaborate with Queensland’s regional tourism organisations in the
roll-out of IMATE. To keep abreast of IMATE updates in the lead up to the 1 April
launch, and for regular communications once IMATE is launched, tourism businesses are
encouraged to subscribe to the IMATE mailing list.

Messages of support for China
TEQ has been reaching out to trade, airline and media partners in China to share
messages of support on behalf of Queensland's tourism industry. Additionally, a series of
videos with messages of encouragement from Queensland's industry will be shared via
TEQ's and our partners’ social media channels over the coming weeks. The first videos
in the series, posted last week, have been recognised as part of the National Tourism
Fashion Awards, in the Honour Award Category. Queensland was also recognised as a

Vale James Kwan

Australian inbound tourism visionary James Kwan sadly passed away on Sunday
morning after ill health due to the COVID-19 virus.

James played a significant role in the growth of Asian inbound tourism to Australia,
founding Wel-Travel in 1988, helping establish the National Association of Travel Agents
Singapore (NATAS) Trade Fair which successfully continues 30 years on, serving on the
Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC) Board from 2001-2005, and was a founding
member of the ATEC's Inbound Tourism Operators Association, to name a few of his
career highlights. James was also a fantastic advocate for Queensland and a great friend
to many in the tourism industry.

Our thoughts are with James' wife Theresa who remains in hospital in Perth, and we
send our condolences to Theresa, Edwin and the extended Kwan family during this
difficult time.
