CEO/President Message March is finally here and after a mild winter we are looking forward to a gorgeous spring! The official kick off to spring will be the St. Patrick’s Day Parade planned for March 14th and sponsored by the Delmarva Irish American Club. The entire parade will be live streamed this year with more details to follow! I am thrilled to be a co-emcee again which is always such a great time and an opportunity to promote all the wonderful businesses, organizations that participate as well as upcoming events in Ocean City! There have been a number of issues that the chamber has been actively engaged on during the legislative session, including “Universal School Start Act”, the 120 day seasonal worker exemption from paid leave, and a required verification between 107 and 120 days, The labor transparency bill which would impact the J-1 Summer Work Travel Program and the Special Event Zone Legislation. It is critical that we have our voice heard in Annapolis as we represent almost 1000 job creators here in Worcester County! There are lots of other exciting events coming up over the next month including our Business After Hours at Alley Oops on March 5th, and the HMRA Spring Trade Expo March 8th and 9th. We are also thrilled to host a multi-chamber business breakfast on March 12th at the Captain’s’ Table located at the Courtyard by Marriot with Special Guest Michael Franklin CEO of Atlantic General Hospital. This event is generously sponsored by AGH, so there is no fee, but we do ask that you RSVP by clicking https://chamber.oceancity.org/events/details/ march-2020-joint-chamber-business-breakfast-captains-table-restaurant-32013 All of the upcoming chamber events, including the Annual Job Fair may be found on our website www.oceancity.org/events. Also, please mark your calendars for the Annual J-1 Seasonal Workforce Employer & Community Conference planned for April 21st at the Grand Hotel and Spa starting at 8:30 am. This is an excellent forum for employers of J-1 students, where new regulatory issues as well as upcoming changes at the state and federal level will be discussed. This is a free event and we encourage all employers and hiring managers to attend. The Greater Ocean City Chamber of Commerce Foundations main mission is to support economic and educational growth within our community. For the past 10 years, we have worked tirelessly to provide scholarships and educational programs to facilitate these endeavors. Now, we are asking for your help. We have designed a beautiful Giving Wall which will be located in our Chamber Visitor Center and provide funds to continue our mission. We see thousands of visitors and locals each year in the center, so the visibility that the wall receives will be impressive! Please take this opportunity to showcase your community support by engaging at the Legacy or Corporate level. There will be a limit of nine premium Legacy Sponsors with 4”x 12” plaques (1 name per plaque), and twelve 5”x7” plaques (3 business names per plaque) for Corporate Sponsors. There will also be an opportunity for individual community supporters to purchase a smaller plaque where we will list their names. Keep in mind that the Chamber Foundation is a non-for-profit 501C 3, therefore your donation is entirely tax deductible (EIN 27-215-1222). Please see the attached rendering. Donations are as follows: The Legacy plaque is $1500 and the Corporate plaque is $750 and will be prominently displayed for the thousands of visitors that come through our doors each year. Individuals can participate at the $300 level. You might be surprised to know that our Ocean City chamber of commerce is the largest in Maryland, over 900 members strong, and supports, organizes and works at the pleasure of the business community to benefit all. Funds raised will go to providing workforce scholarships to train and retain our local employees as well as other professional development opportunities. We ask that you join us in this sustaining opportunity and look forward to pressing forward in growing a strong and vibrant workforce in our beloved town of Ocean City, Maryland. Now…. Get Your Name on The Wall! Thank you in advance for your generosity. Most Sincerely, Ruth Waters, President Greater Ocean City Chamber Foundation, Inc. www.occhamberfoundation.org
