Faculty Violin Leo Phillips Donald Armstrong Violin Born in London, Leo Phillips studied the violin in both Europe, Donald Armstrong is Associate Concertmaster of the NZSO. He was with David Takeno and Sandor Vegh, and the US, with Dorothy formerly Music Director of the NZ Chamber Orchestra, Principal DeLay and Shmuel Ashkenasi. He has appeared as soloist with Second Violin of the Tivoli Sinfoniorkester in Denmark and Co- many orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Manchester Concertmaster of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice. He studied Camerata and L’Orchestre de Chambre de Geneve, and as Leader/ in New York and Boston with teachers including Josef Gingold and Concertmaster with many more including The Chamber Orchestra Masuko Ushioda, and chamber music with Louis Krasner, Eugene of Europe, the BBC Orchestras, The Halle Orchestra, The Hong Lehner and Laurence Lesser. He peforms regularly with his own Kong Philharmonic and The National Symphony Orchestra of chamber group, the “Amici Ensemble”. Elizabeth Sellars Serenity Thurlow Violin Viola Elizabeth Sellars is Co-ordinator of Strings at the Sir Zelman Cowan Serenity Thurlow (Ngai Tahu, Ngati Porou) of Maori and English School of Music, Monash University.
