Notice of Contract Opportunity Invitation for Bids (IFB) DFW-2021-025 Woodland Thinning and Firebreaks at the Mashpee Pine Barrens WMA, Mashpee, MA Project Summary The Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife) is soliciting bids from Contractors to conduct important woodland thinning and fire break work during Fiscal Year 2021 on approximately 30 acres at the Mashpee Pine Barrens Wildlife Management Area (WMA) located in Mashpee Massachusetts. This work will provide important woody fuel reduction and facilitate safe and effective use of prescribed fire within the pine barrens. The Base Bid will consist of whole tree felling and removal within: 1) a series of 10 ft (interior) fire breaks; 2) a series of 20 ft (exterior) fire breaks; 3) an 80 foot wide buffer strip located parallel and interior to the 20 ft (exterior) fire breaks, and 4) removal of all woody debris from the landing area on DeGrass Road at the conclusion of the operation, grading of the landing area, and installation of large cull logs, large rocks, or other material approved by MassWildlife to outline a small 3-4 vehicle parking area. The Base Bid includes a total of approximately 22.5 acres. All trees within the fire breaks and designated trees within the buffer strip will be cut to within 2 inches of the ground unless otherwise specified by MassWildlife. All woody material from cut trees is to be staged at the landing and removed from the site upon completion of the work, including any/all woody debris and chips generated at the landing location. Alternate number 1 will consist of whole tree felling and removal within an approximately 7.5 acre wooded area adjacent to a portion of the 20 ft (exterior) fire breaks. All designated trees within this wooded area will be cut to within 2 inches of the ground unless otherwise specified by MassWildlife. All woody material from cut trees is to be staged at the landing and removed from the site upon completion of the work, including any/all woody debris and chips generated at the landing location. The Estimated Project cost is $60,000.00. Complete project specifications may be obtained at www.commbuys.com . In the bid description box enter DFW-2021-025 and click Find It (see detailed instructions below). Mandatory bid conference will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 29, 2020. Meet at the intersection of Degrass and Great Hay Rds, Mashpee. Masks and Social Distancing required per state mandates. Bid Deadline: Sealed Bids must be received, in writing, no later than Friday, January 8, 2021 at 2:00 pm at which time they will be publicly opened and read.

NOTE REGARDING COVID-19: Due to the current Covid-19 emergency protocols in place at the Westborough Field Headquarters building, bid packages will be accepted via US Mail, Federal Express, or UPS carriers only, please plan accordingly. The building remains CLOSED to the public; NO in-person dropoffs will be accepted. A zoom invitation will be sent to all eligible bidders (those that attended the required bidder’s conference) 2-3 days prior to the date set for the public bid opening.
