NEWS FROM EMMANUEL: JANUARY 14, 2023 January 14, 2023 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Worship this Weekend This weekend, Holy Communion will be offered in worship on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 a.m. Sunday Morning Bible Classes Join us tomorrow morning for our adult Bible classes and Sunday School for children from 9:15-10:15 a.m. See a complete listing of our Sunday morning and weekday studies here. •Handling the Word of Truth Based on Dr. John Pless’s book by the same name, this class will explore the distinctive way understanding the difference between Law and Gospel guides our study of the Bible and its application to our lives. Leader: Pastor McFadden Location: Sanctuary •Marriage Is… (January 8–February 12) This five-week study drills down into the lovable and the laughable that happens when two sinners commit their lives to each other in Christ. Led by the Konows and the Martins, come ready to laugh, grow, and share as we look at what God intends for marriage, how we often make a mess of it, and how God continually redeems it. Leader: Matt and Amy Konow, John and Sarah Martin Location: Mr. Staub’s Room (Newly renovated level of the school)
•Sunday School for Grown-ups This class will study the same Bible stories featured in our Sunday School program. Sunday School for Grown-ups is a great way for participants to learn the foundational stories of the Bible and for parents seeking ways to connect with their children through Scripture. Leader: Pastor Mark Sheafer Location: Mrs. Frerking’s Room (Newly renovated level of the school) •Lutheran Christianity This 12-week course introduces the basic teachings of Christianity in easy-to-understand terms. Questions are encouraged in this class and no previous Bible study experience is necessary. All are welcome! Leaders: Pastor Eggold, Pastor Sheafer, and Lana Hille Location: Brandt Hall Meeting Room Communion Services on Wednesdays We offer a special service of Holy Communion on Wednesday mornings at 11:30 a.m. If you are unable to attend one of these special Communion services, and desire to receive the Sacrament, please contact the church office, 260.423.1369, to schedule a communion visit. 2023 Contribution Envelopes Contribution envelope packets for 2023 are available to pick up in Ebenezer Hall. New Emmanuel Bible Reading Plan Are you looking for a way to read the Bible with greater consistency and regularity? Would it be helpful to have a way to engage the Bible for 10-15 minutes a day and also have it prepare you for Emmanuel's services on the weekend? This year, Emmanuel's app has a new plan that could help. This new Bible reading plan can be found by clicking the "Bible" icon at the bottom of the app's home screen. Then clicking the plan option on the bottom of the next screen. This new plan will run through the readings for the upcoming weekend two times in the week prior. Here’s the weekly breakdown for the new plan: • Monday: First Reading & Weekly Psalm
• Tuesday: Second Reading & Weekly Psalm • Wednesday: Third Reading & Weekly Psalm • Thursday: First Reading & Weekly Psalm • Friday: Second Reading & Weekly Psalm • Saturday: Third Reading & Weekly Psalm • Sunday: Rest Day This is another way for our church family to unite around God's Word in this new year! Give it a try! Emmanuel Lunch Bunch The next Lunch Bunch activity for those around 60 or over is scheduled for Tuesday, January 17, when our special guest will be our member, Stephanie Goodman, Environmental Manager for Republic Services. She will provide us with helpful information pertaining to environmental management in our homes and businesses. We gather for fellowship any time after 11:00 a.m. in the Lower Level of Ebenezer Hall. Lunch is served at noon by our favorite cook, Tammy. The cost is $9.00. Hope you can join us for this great opportunity to meet Emmanuel members in an informal setting, enjoy a meal with others, and learn something new about Fort Wayne on a topic of interest to seniors. Lutherans For Life Baby Shower During the weekend of January 28 and 29, your local Lutherans For Life team will celebrate new life by holding a baby shower to benefit the Fort Wayne Women's Care Center. Needed are slightly-used or new baby items, along with larger articles such as Pack-n-Play portable play yards (crib) which provide a safe place for baby to sleep. A gift as simple as a pack of diapers will be sent to Shepherd of the City, who hands out thousands of diapers in the 46805 zip code each year to parents in dire need. Bring your donations to any of our three church services on January 28 and 29, and your Lutherans For Life team will most gratefully accept them on behalf of the little ones!
