We hope you are all keeping warm out there……Still a way to go before it warms up. New Zealand Soldiers being returned to New Zealand You may have heard on news recently that the army is bringing home soldiers who passed away while serving in Malaysia. One of those soldiers was a local lad, Terrence James Healey (Terry). He was posted to Terendak Camp, Malacca on active duty in June 1964, 2 weeks before his 21 st birthday. The following month Terry was pillion passenger in a motor cycle accident, sadly he passed away from his injuries on the 8th of September 1964. He was interred in the Terendak Military Cemetery, Malaysia. Now thanks to the army Terry is finally coming home to his family. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved grandparents Mary and Errol (Molly and Bing) Healey, A re-internment service will be held at 11am on the 24th August in the Foxton Cemetery. All family, friends and returned servicemen are warmly invited to attend We are thinking if holding a Father’s Day lunch on the 2nd September, but we need at least 20 people to make this work, let us know if this is something you are interested in. We will only be able to go ahead with it if we have the numbers required, so if you can, register your name now! From there we will require payment *(thereby confirming your spot) by Sunday 26th August 2018. The Menu: • Roast • Pudding; Steam pudding & custard or Pavlova & fruit salad All for $25.00 per person

In June the Women’s section held their annual High Tea at the RSA. We had 36 people attend and enjoy the afternoon. Thanks to Decima for all her hard work at setting up with her beautiful bone china and linen. Thanks also to our members who supplied the food, there was a great selection of goodies and help to make the day along with the fellowship from all who attended. At our May meeting, one of our members showed and talked about her folk art. At our meeting in June we had Margaret Hill from Foxton show and talk about her weaving. Our members enjoyed both these ladies and it shows us there are a lot of talented people in our town. In June one of our members represented us at the RSA National Women’s Conference in Auckland. PRESIDENTS REPORT Following the June meeting we received a draft 6 monthly balance sheet, with the finances looking better, though we still need the steadfast and loyal support of the members to continue on the uphill climb, The committee are working well together, with the entertainment committee lining up some great entertainment for us, thank you to the committee members. We have 2 new initiatives that we propose to start in August as a means of assisting with finances. 1: Sell advertising space in the newsletter. Trade Club Members (Business Card) $120.00 per year (inc G.S.T) Non-Club Members $170.00 per year (inc. G.S.T) Please contact the Club if you are interested in booking an advertising space. This is a great way to help the Club and promote your business. 2: Run a loyalty Club. This will consist of a detailed sheet numbered 1 to 100 per month It will run under the following rules: 1: Open to members and non-members. 2: Each number will cost $10.00 each. Besides your number you will fill in your name address & phone number. 3: One (1) winning number will be drawn on the first (1st) Friday of the month, after the reciting of the Ode. 4: The purchaser of the number/s does not have to be present to be eligible. If necessary a cheque can be mailed to the purchaser of the winning number. 5: The draw/prize will be 50% of the amount collected from the sales of numbers for that month. 6: This will be a monthly draw. The Levin RSA have run this with great success and as a result have been able to reduce their loan by $50,000.00 On Sunday15th July I attended a 100th Anniversary Service at Saint Mary’s, Foxton for Captain Patrick Dore. Chaplain to the forces in Gallipoli. Captain Dore was the parish priest At Saint Mary’s prior to his departure in 1914. Captain Dore died of his wounds 15 th July 1918 and was brought back to Foxton for burial at the Foxton Cemetery. He was awarded the Military Cross. If any Member has anything to say regarding the Welfare of the RSA, please take your concerns to a Committee Member, or myself the President. David Roache President
