Board Message - Cindy Stewart, President President’s Message –June 2021 Another month has passed and we are again CLOSED due to Provincial Health Orders! There isn’t too much to say other than we are all looking forward to re- opening and bringing back all our activities. We have the planters all assembled and ready to plant! Jonie and Carol are still working hard and doing some more painting, working on the day to day operations and other tasks as assigned. They have had to adjust their schedules many times to be able to comply with the ever changing orders and I want to thank them for everything they both do. Although many of us are just tired and wondering if we will ever go back to “normal” there are positives we can appreciate every day: 2ⁿd doses of vaccines will be available to us soon The weather is warm- enjoy the sunshine Listen to all the songs of the birds Gardens and flowers can be planted and nurtured 4

Activities that keep you moving. . . (When we re-open) Addicted to Dance - Carol Simonson Will resume when Centre reopens to activities. Sad news for us dancers - we have lost Kathy Bowden as an instructor as they have sold their home in Gimli and moved to Brandon. I sure will miss her dance knowledge and will have hard time teaching more complicated dances to our group. Best of luck to you from all us line dancers! Let’s Go Dancing - Gail Hurak We opened, then closed. The numbers were down, then up. Let’s take a summer break. It is time to enjoy, within provincial protocols, the water and land, hobbies and sports. Therefore, we will start dancing in September and hopefully, we can see all of you again. Our second vaccines should be completed by then. Hopefully, the NH 55+ club will be open in the evening. 6
Activities Update We completed six weeks of beginner watercolor sessions, about 1 ½ hours each. The first was in the New Horizon building and the other five were completed on Zoom. We covered several important topics including the basics of colour mixing, values, hues, textures, preserving whites, how to paint clouds, rocks, water, and we ended with an enjoyable session on special effects. Students painted in-class and were encouraged to complete paintings on their own between sessions. In the fall look for another offering of watercolor classes (Zoom and/or in-person) this time covering “Intermediate” topics for more advanced watercolor painting. Thank you to all who participated in the first course! 7

Membership & Volunteers If we could sell our experiences for what they cost us, we’d be millionaires. Don’t you hate it when someone answers their own questions? I do. It takes a lot of balls to golf the way I do. 14

Bereavement Support Losing a loved one is never easy - whether the loss was anticipated or without warning, the pain is the same. Sometimes it helps to talk to other people who are experiencing the same feelings and challenges. The bereavement session allows individuals or groups to share their pain. When you reach out for help, this is the first step of healing. For more information contact the New Horizons Office to connect you with our Bereavement leader 204-642-7909 21
