APRIL 2021 National Day of Reflection A National Day of Reflection was held on Tuesday 23rd March and marked one year to the day of the first national lockdown. We lit up the Hospice in tribute to those who lost their life in the pandemic, those who became bereaved and to all our staff and volunteers who have worked so hard to keep our Hospice’s doors open. Our Celebration Tree lights shone brightly to signify this poignant day and we With our Three Peaks Challenge coming up in May, created a video for our supporters to we thought it was the perfect time to look back on watch across our social media channels. when the ‘Blister Sisters’ swapped their scrubs and Here are just some of the reflections that PPE on our Incare ward for walking boots to raise we looked back on that day... vital funds for our Hospice. APRIL 2021 A huge thank you to everyone who took part in ‘Sock it to Lymphoedema’ last month. It was great to see your pictures! Challenge complete! We would like to say a huge well done to Susanne, our physiotherapist who has completed her challenge of walking five miles every day in March to raise funds for a new greenhouse in the Hospice gardens. Susanne said; ‘Moving forwards we hope the garden and vegetable plot will be shared with community groups and a greenhouse is so useful in such a large garden. Thank you if you have already sponsored me and a special thank you to my walking buddies who have shared the rain, wind, hail, mud and sunshine with me.’ Susanne has raised an impressive £550 through her Just Giving page and with sponsor forms dotted around the Hospice too we expect this total to grow. We will keep you posted on the progress of the greenhouse, thank you so much Susanne for your support. 2
Mars Bar Cake Had enough of chocolate? Nah, didn’t think so! Here is our Easter Recipe of the month edition of ‘Recipe of the Month’ sent in by Tracy Carr. Ingredients: 3 Mars bars 60g Butter 3/4 tbsp Golden Syrup 2 and half cups of Rice Crispies or Coco Pops Method 1. Melt Mars bars, butter, and golden syrup in a saucepan over a medium heat. Whilst everything is melting, keep stirring until they are all combined together. 2. Pour Rice Crispies or Coco Pops into a bowl and pour over the melted Mars bar mix. Stir through using a wooden spoon until they are well coated with the mixture. 3. Line a slice tin with baking paper (this will make it easier to remove the mixture once it is all set) press the mixture gently into the slice tin. 4. Melt the chocolate in the microwave for 30 seconds. If it has not completely melted stir and return for 10 second intervals, stirring inbetween until melted. If you prefer, place chocolate in a glass dish over a pan of boiling water and stir until the chocolate has melted. 5. Pour the melted chocolate over the Mars bar mix and spread until it is evenly coated. 6. Place in a fridge for an hour until set. 7. Slice into squares. Enjoy! This is a good way to use up any left over Easter eggs. Before you put it in the fridge if you want it to look a bit more fancy add sprinkles, or crushed Crunchie, M&Ms or anything that you like that may need using up. Join our staff and volunteers Facebook group! Simply go on the Hospice’s Facebook page, click groups, and request to join the staff and volunteers closed group. 3
