Pictured right: Ray Westcott welcomes male residents of Palm Lake Resort Upper Coomera to join the Toucan Club. >> Continued from Page 1 As far as milestones go, the Toucan Club had its first official meeting on November 1, 2008 with 14 eager members. In 2009, they introduced a ‘Toucan Club’ shirt to make things a little more ‘official’. Nowadays, the Toucans number 40 members. Tea, coffee and a few nibbles are provided at their meetings. “There are no membership fees or anything like that - we just ask the fellas to buy their own shirt,” Ray says. “We raise a bit of money through recycling bottles and cans, as well as holding the odd raffle.” As Ray explains, there are two major Toucan events each year - Ladies’ Night and the Christmas Party. “On Ladies’ Night, which is usually held every July or August, our partners are spoilt with a wonderful three- course meal that we make for them, along with drinks, roses, chocolates and more,” he says. In late 2020, a Members’ Draw was also introduced, which has been well received. “This Club has it all; camaraderie, friendship, laughs Ray has opened an invitation to any Palm Lake Resort and a few drinks with friends and neighbours.
