NACDA NEWS August 31, 2022 Tribute to Connie Zieba Sadly, NACDA recently lost a long time member when Connie Zieba passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022, joining seven of her dogs (Lani, Keoki, Kalima, Charlie, Auwe, Lulu, and Weaver) at the Rainbow Bridge. Connie left behind her husband John-David and her last two dogs, Blondie and Day. John-David and Connie were members of NACDA for many years. During that time, Connie spent many years writing the newsletter for the group each month, organizing the Yahoo group and meeting announcements, tracking member Birthdays, and tracking member contact information. She worked hard for the club for many years. Connie was born in Norman, Oklahoma in April of 1962. She attended the University of Oklahoma, and later graduated from Texas Tech University. She was a loving mother to nine dogs, which she treated as if they were her children. Connie was well known in the Houston community for her service work in the following organizations: Houston Alumnae Panhellenic Association (HAPA), Clear Lake Panhellenic Association (CLAPA), and Houston Junior Forum. She held important positions in each of the organizations. Everywhere that Connie went, she made everyone feel welcome. She was very friendly to all, and always sported a big smile. Every year, Connie sent out Christmas cards with professional photos of all of her dogs, and sometimes John-David and herself as well. Those who knew Connie can attest that she was honestly one of the nicest people you could ever meet. It was a shock to lose Connie at such a young age. To honor Connie, the club sent a beautiful flower arrangement to her funeral. Kathy Dudley-Scott, Susan Hofacker, Debbie Hughes, and former club member Suzanne Story all attended the funeral as well as several other agility people from the Houston area. John-David was genuinely touched that we were able to attend the service. He also sent a note to thank the club for the flowers (arrangement pictured in the article). Next time you see a Toy Fox Terrier or a Pomeranian, take a minute to think of Connie, and pray for John-David’s recovery from her death. Page | 4
