Na Fianna Nuacht Na Fianna’s Operation Transformation is gathering pace and following the initial “Weigh In” on Tuesday 22nd January when all our leaders recorded their baseline weights, the first interim weigh in took place this weekend. We’re delighted to announce that everyone is shedding the weight! Top place this weekend however goes to Nora McCarrick, representing the 2007 Boys, who leads the pack with 6% weight loss. Na Fianna Nuacht Over the next 12 weeks our leaders will be taking part in numerous activities, including the Monday night Na Fianna Operation Transformation walks, Wednesday evening exercise classes with Dublin City Council and Friday evening gym sessions with GNS Fitness. Limited spaces available for club members who wish to join us on Wednesday or Friday evenings, as numbers are limited you must book in weekly with the Operation Transformation Team. Please contact us by email to book into our classes, email ot@clgnafianna.ie The classes you can book into are as follows: Day Time Venue Type Wednesday 7pm – 8pm Hall Circuit Training or Boxercise Friday 7pm – 8pm Gym Resistance/Weight training Fundraising: Our leaders will be fundraising over the coming weeks, and they have several initiatives to raise money, please keep an eye out for them and don’t be afraid to offer you help or support. Gala Night 19th April A hard working committee are currently working on preparations for the Operation Transformation finale which will be a big club night. The event to be held in Scoil Chaitriona and back to the club afterwards promises to be a great night with all the stops pulled out. Hosted by a national media personality, the winning leader will be announced during a night’s programme that includes enlightening halftime entertainment, a draw for quality spot prizes, finger food back at the club bar and general fun and craic. Tickets for the night are €25 and are available to buy from any of our team leaders. Regular updates on the progress of each leader will be communicated in the Nuacht, these will include % weight Loss, money raised per team and even some videos of our leaders during their gruelling exercise sessions! Na Fianna Nuacht Volunteer Award For Ann Congrats to Ann Ryan on her recent Camogie Association Volunteer of the Year award. Ann, pictured with husband Tom and daughter Gráinne, was presented with her award at the Association’s recent gala evening and it acknowledges Ann’s unstinting commitment to and her voluntary involvement with Camogie at all levels, over the years. Na Fianna Nuacht Fixture/Facilities Update Last week’s meeting between the Fixtures/Facilities Committees and the Adult and Minor mentors group, in advance of the season ahead produced the following main points. * 170 plus teams to be catered for * Limited Number of club pitches Adult/Juvenile*: Mobhi Road Main, Mobhi Road Back, Collinstown New, Collinstown 1, Collinstown 2, St Vincents, St Patricks DCU (closing in April for the rest of the season for development of All Weather), *Albert College (share with Ballymun Kickmans, NF have every Sunday and every second Satruday afternoon), *Johnstown Park (share with Ballymun Kickmans, NF have every Saturday afternoon and every Sunday) & *Rosmini (closed due to school building work) * 4 Senior & 4 Minor teams will be facilitated in Mobhi Road Main where possible * Will try to play Championship games in Mobhi where possible * Fixtures hope to give every team from U-16 to Adult at least 1 game in Mobhi Road * If opposition’s ground is off/unplayable we will not be in a position to accept the fixtures on one of NF pitches * Pitch Status after 4.30pm on Friday to check pitch playablility * Check fixtures to ensure no clashes with other teams. * If changing day or time of a home game check fixtures that it does not impact on another fixture especially midweek games also Fixtures has to notified before an agreement to change home game dates or times. * Fixtures email address for all pitch requests/correspondence is: fixturesclgnafianna@gmail.com Na Fianna Nuacht 10ú Feabhra 2019 6
Na Fianna Nuacht * Facilities email address for all ground maintenance/dressing room/carpark: facilities@clgnafianna.ie * If playing on the main pitch Mobhi Road ensure that the goal protection frames are put back in front of goals * If doing drills, do at side of pitch not in front of goal area * Have someone in charge of looking after carpark & security at all venues but especially in Collinstown during games and training. * Ensure dressing rooms are locked and personal property properly secured during games and training * The club operates a policy of paid up members only playing, anyone who is not paid up will not be insured or eligible to play for the club. * After games or training ensure the pitch, surrounding area and dressing rooms are litter free, put all rubbish in bins provided as this helps with facilities when cutting and upgrading pitches and dressing rooms. Na Fianna Nuacht Monday Night Walk As part of Na Fianna’s Operation Transformation 2019, the Monday Night Walk continues to grow from strength to strength with new followers joining each Monday night. The two routes, 3km & 5km, offer options to all walkers of all ages and abilities and the welcome cuppa and chat back at the club bar afterwards is attracting good numbers. Appearances by Operation Transformation Team Leaders has brought an extra buzz to this fun initiative and you’d never know who you might bump into on the night. Pictured at last Monday night’s Operation Transformation Walk were Team Leaders Seosamh Ó MaolalaÍ and Nora McCarrick with Ann Ryan. Open to everybody, members and non-members alike, the group gathers in the clubhouse foyer for a 7pm start on Monday nights and all are welcome. Na Fianna Nuacht All-Ireland Gaelic Games Superstars Hosted by Na Fianna GAA Club, Mobhi Road, Dublin 9 Saturday 1st June 2019 – 9am start Na Fianna GAA Club, Dublin are hosting a Gaelic Games Superstars competition. Now’s your chance to enter a team to represent your GAA Club and compete against clubs from all over Ireland and beyond. • Format: Team of 4 (2 men, 2 women - one team member must be over age 40) • Who can enter a team: Any GAA Club in the World (there are 2,066 clubs in total) • Total no. of Teams: Limited to 100 Teams in 2019 – so get your entry in early! • Entry Fee: €100 per team. Limited to max 4 teams per club. • When: Saturday 1st June 2019 • What events: 10 separate events as outlined below: 1. Hurling: Long-puck 2. Football: Long-kick 3. Football: Free-taking 4. Handball: Accuracy - 10 efforts to hit specific target area on handball wall 5. Rounders: Longest-throw - successfully fielded by team-mate 6. Basketball: all 4 team members involved in relay - score max no. of baskets in 90 seconds (bring to centre of court after each basket) 7. Athletics: 100m sprint (it is after all the Gaelic ATHLETICS Association!): 8. Athletics: 4 x 100m relay 9. Facilities: Quickest team to put all 26 flags out in correct positions on pitch 10. Gym Test: Hang-tough. Na Fianna Nuacht Rules Long-puck/ Long-kick: 1 male 1 female - 2 efforts each - combined distance of best of each Frees: 1 female 1 male, 2 frees each from specific spots (points only, score is combined score) Handball: 5 efforts each for 1 female & 1 male - hitting specific targets on handball wall - 1 minute per player - max team score 10 Rounders: 3 efforts - 1 female and 1 male - longest successfully fielded throw Basketball: Max no. of baskets in 90 seconds - in relay all 4 members involved Athletics: 1 male, 1 female; Placings/ Timed - 1-10 - both events Pitch Flags - all 4 team members - quickest time to set out all 24 (?) flags in correct positions and remain standing - deduct time for fallen flags Gym Test: Hang tough - combined score all 4 team members. There are 4 Events where all 4 Team Members compete; in addition each team member must participate in minimum 3 of the 6 other events. Members’ Subscriptions Due Members’ subscriptions for the coming year are due and payable since the AGM. Na Fianna Nuacht ……and finally Congrats to Elyse Jamieson-Murphy who was recently named on the Dublin Minor Camogie Squad. Best of luck to Elyse and the Dublin Ladies in their first championship game against Wexford on Saturday 23rd February. With a growing membership of almost 3,000 and over 100 teams now competing it is difficult to ensure all club activity is reported upon – Do not assume that your team’s activity is already known to Na Fianna Nuacht or that someone else has reported it.
