ENDICOTT COLLEGE MISSION STATEMENT Shaped by a bold entrepreneurial spirit, Endicott College offers students a vibrant academic environment that remains true to its founding principle of integrating professional and liberal arts with experiential learning including internship opportunities across disciplines. The College fosters a spirit of excellence by creating a challenging yet supportive environment in which students are encouraged to take intellectual risks, pursue scholarly and creative interests, contribute to the community, and explore diverse career paths. Endicott is committed to supporting the personal and professional development of its students, preparing them to assume meaningful roles within the greater community both domestically and internationally. SCHOOL OF NURSING MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Endicott College School of Nursing reflects that of the college, to prepare graduates to practice in a complex and ever-changing health care environment with a solid base in liberal education. Curriculum integration of global healthcare issues and cultural concepts will insure that students can participate in society as educated, culturally competent, and socially responsible individuals who respect others and the environment and who are accountable to protect and promote the well-being of those assigned to their care. Inherent in this mission is that the student will remain a self-learner throughout the lifespan, committed to both personal and professional development. Preparation for practice is based on evidence-based theoretical knowledge and structured, supervised clinical instruction. The educational process incorporates the student as an active participant in the care of the patient with an emphasis on patient – centeredness, quality and safety. Through the use of innovative teaching approaches and technology, a collaborative and interactive classroom environment is created in which students are encouraged to become self-learners, responsible for the depth and breadth of their acquired knowledge. The professional standards of nursing will provide the foundation for the development of critical thinking skills, leadership skills, scholarship, ethical reasoning, and therapeutic communication skills. Endicott College School of Nursing is dedicated to educating the nurse of the future with the knowledge, skills and attitudes to provide patient-centered, quality and safe care in a diverse healthcare environment. 2015 Accredited by Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA
OVERVIEW OF ENDICOTT MS PROGRAM IN NURSING The MS curriculum builds on the baccalaureate level foundation. The MS program of study emphasizes a higher level of critical thinking, synthesis of nursing and related theories, integration of evidence-based research, facilitation of effective therapeutic communication, application of ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice, synthesis of the role of the educator, administrator, or global health nurse, pursuit of continued learning for professional development, and evaluation of forces or issues within the health care delivery system. The Master’s program expands upon the core knowledge in the baccalaureate program: critical thinking, nursing process, ethics, diversity, communication, leadership, and evidence-based research. The MS curriculum is logically sequenced to allow the student to progress into the more advanced nurse educator, administrator, global health or family nurse practitioner role. Every student in the MS nursing program completes the Core Courses. After the Core courses, the student completes 4 concentration courses in either, Nursing Administration, Nursing Education, or Global Health Nursing. The last course that the student takes is an Internship Course in their chosen concentration. They need to fulfill a total of 144 hours. We have cohorts starting in the fall and the spring. Some of these competencies may be fulfilled in the clinical setting as well as the classroom. Evaluation of the student will be provided to the preceptor at semester mid-point and at semesters end. The faculty will also evaluate the student at the same points in time. The student will receive an electronic evaluation form evaluating the clinical site and preceptor at semesters end. If at anytime the student is not progressing as planned, the preceptor should reach out to the Faculty or Director of the Masters Program. The faculty member will make a mutually agreed site visit to meet the preceptor and student at their clinical placement at some point during the semester. This visit is not meant to be disruptive but to make sure that the clinical site is providing the student with educational experiences, meet the preceptor, and find out how the student is doing and or observe the student’s final internship project. 2015 Accredited by Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta, GA
