Change will come into effect as of Tuesday September, 28th.
AM TIME CHANGE NOTICE FOR BUS #26 • Starting on: • Tuesday, September 28, 2021 • Please note that the bus pick up time (AM) may have changed slightly as time modifications have been done to the route. • Thank you for your co-operation, • TRANSPORTATION SERVICES • LESTER B. PEARSON SCHOOL BOARD
WARNING BELL FOR RECESS • We have been experiencing some technical issues with our bells. The warning bell which would normally ring at 9:50 a.m. has not been working. This has resulted in many students arriving to class late. We have put in a request to rectify the issue. In the interim, we will manually ring the bell at 9:50 each day. Students when you hear the bell ring at 9:50, this will indicate that you have five minutes to get to your 3rd period class which starts at 9:55 a.m.
Help keep our school grounds clean • Dear Students, • I am receiving complaints about all the litter and garbage that is being left in Valois Park and around the neighborhood at lunch time. I was sent pictures of the plastic wrappers, bottles, plastic container, masks left on the property. One of the neighbors picked up a bag full of garbage with her younger daughter while visiting the park. • Please find a garbage to put your wrappers, bottles, and any garbage you have and do not litter in the park or anywhere in the neighborhood. • We would like to continue giving you the privilege to leave campus but if this continues we will have to have you stay on school property at lunch. • Thank you • Mrs. Coiteux
DRINKING FOUNTAINS • In keeping with COVID safety measures, the drinking spouts at the water stations throughout the school have been covered. Students are asked to use the refillable section of the fountain only. • We would also like to remind students of the importance of bringing a water bottle to school, so that you can have access to fresh drinking water throughout the school day.
Sanitary measures in school • Students must wear a procedural mask at all times in school. A new mask will be handed out in class during period 1 and right after lunch. It must be worn appropriately over the nose at all times. The only time that students may remove their mask is if they are eating/drinking while being seated. • Students must sanitize their hands when they enter and exit the building and each of their classes.
No access to gyms during lunch • Unfortunately, we cannot offer Open Gym periods at this time. Students are NOT permitted to play or be in a gym during early or late lunch without a staff member being present.
• First Nations minute: • Mary Simon officially became Canada's first Inuk Governor General on July 26th, the first Indigenous person ever to hold the position. The governor general is the representative of Canada to Queen Elizabeth, a largely ceremonial but prestigious position which puts her on the international stage. Her first important task was to approve the request of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to dissolve Parliament, setting off the latest federal election in Canada. • • Mary Simon was born in Nunavik, Quebec, raised in the traditional Inuit lifestyle, including hunting, fishing, sewing Inuit clothing, and travelling by dog sled. She went to high school in Colorado, and eventually taught at McGill University before being elected secretary of the board of directors of the Northern Quebec Inuit Association. At the age of 40, she was diagnosed with depression and burnout, but she overcame these challenges, later becoming the Canadian Ambassador to Denmark, and played a key role in the Charlottetown Accord negotiations. •
Orange Shirt Committee • We are looking for students from grades 7 to 11 to help out organizing Truth and Reconciliation Day to be held on September 30th. • If you want to become a keen member of the Orange Shirt Committee to honour indigenous children that attended residential schools and hundreds who never made it back home, please register • with Ms Jackson (room 206) , • Ms Shaina (room 304) or • Ms Chávez (room 204).
Cross Country • The deadline for Cross Country registration is this morning. • Don't forget to bring your signed forms and checks.
