PERFORMING ARTS Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival The University of Otago Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival is held in 23 regions across New Zealand. The Hawke's Bay regional festival is on Thursday 15 April at The Little Theatre. The festival is shaping up to be an exciting one with 5 schools in our region participating! Napier Girls’ has four teams entering and over 22 participants, ranging from Year 9 right through to Year 13 and includes three student-directed pieces and a teacher-directed production. Maggie Cooper and Penelope Fowler (Year 10) have directed a 5 minute scene taken from Twelfth Night, Charlotte Reid (Year 11) has directed a 5 minute scene taken from Hamlet and Sam Goodchild (Year 13) has directed a 5 minute scene from A Midsummer Nights’ Dream. It has been an amazing journey for these girls to give direction and support their peers during this process. I have also been busy directing a 15 minute scene taken from The Tempest. It has been a humbling journey with our Kahui girls having considerable input into this piece as we have looked at The Tempest with a colonial New Zealand lens. All the students have been working really hard and no matter the outcome of the festival, we are so proud to be able to showcase our talent. Feel free to join us at The Little Theatre in McGrath Street in Napier on Thursday 15 April at 5.30pm. Entry is by Koha. Thank you! We are so grateful to everyone who supported the Tremains 2021 Affordable Art Exhibition. Thank you to all the artists, parent volunteers, students helpers, student musicians, sponsors, and the organising committee. The 2021 event was a wonderful occasion where people came together to enjoy the exhibition, meet their friends, enjoy a coffee, and purchase art. The Tremains Affordable Art Exhibition was another fantastic success! We have had some wonderful comments from our exhibition visitors over the weekend: “Fantastic 1 1/2 hours, congratulations to everyone involved" "The time and effort that went into the organisation of the exhibition must have been huge" "The piano playing was lovely and the girls did the school proud” We will announce how much the exhibition raised for the school in the first newsletter after the April PTA meeting.
