TRINITY HIGH SCHOOL & SIXTH FORM CENTRE Part of Bordesley Multi Academy Trust www.trinity.worcs.sch.uk Newsletter No.4 May 2021 Dear Parents and Carers CONTENTS This week we say goodbye to Year 11 and 13. I would like to thank them all for their resilience and HEADTEACHER’S positivity throughout the last 15 months. It has been an incredibly challenging time for everyone, but those taking GCSE and A levels exams have had to endure more than most. You have been amazing. MESSAGE We have now concluded the huge number of assessments that we have needed to do in order to generate the grades that students deserve. In many cases, students have actually sat more assessments than they would have done if they had actually had public exams this summer. We know that despite LATEST the government announcing ‘exams were cancelled’ this summer that this as far from the truth as it LOCKDOWN possibly could be. INFORMATION So, I say, to all of you that you have earned every one of your grades and you should all be rightly proud of your achievements. SCHOOL NEWS School has attempted to return to some sense of normality this term, and students have been able to be taught in specialist rooms for their subjects. We have also started to cautiously return to providing POST WHITSUN extra-curricular activities, which I know both the students and staff have really appreciated. We have of course also faced our challenges, thank you all for your support with the mass testing we were TIMTETABLE FOR asked to do as part of the surge testing in Redditch. This has really helped in ensuring we all keep Y9 & Y10 each other safe. I would also like to thank you for your support when we have needed to ask students to isolate. Engagement with remote learning has been excellent. ACTIVITIES I hope you enjoy reading about some of the things that have been happening ion school over the past few weeks. DURING LOCKDOWN The next term promises an even greater return to normality and we are really looking forward to welcoming Year 8 students to transition days – something we really missed last year. EPRAISE I hope you all enjoy some sunshine next week and I look forward to seeing the students after half term. DATES FOR THE Best wishes DIARY COMMUNAL NOTICES Mr A Ward Headteacher
LATEST COVID INFORMATION HOME TESTING Thank you to all the students and families who are continuing to test regularly. We have seen a small number of positive cases recently, and it is important that the home LFT tests continue again through the half-term and into the into the Summer Term. • Test twice a week at home • Report results online, on NHS site (see link below – Report a COVID Test) and the School Hub, as positive, negative or void. This information is critical in helping us to understand the prevalence of the virus across the country • Continue to test twice weekly over the half-term holiday • Test before returning to school or college for the Summer Term, either the night before, or morning of, the first day back, to find and isolate any positive cases • Any positive LFT tests should be followed up with a confirmatory PCR test FAMILIES AND HOUSEHOLDS CAN ALSO ACCESS HOME TESTS VIA THE ADDRESS BELOW: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/rapid-lateral-flow-testing-for-households-and-bubbles-of- school-pupils-and-staff REPORT A COVID TEST RESULT TO THE ADDRESS BELOW: https://www.gov.uk/report-covid19-result
SCHOOL NEWS STEM COMPETITION On Monday 17th May, Trinity celebrated student creativity with its annual School STEM Competition (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). Each year, students in Year 9 are asked to design a solar powered product, which is both innovative and problem-solving, and create an accompanying presentation, which communicates their ideas effectively. Our current cohort really took on the challenge and the range of ideas really impressed the staff in the Creative & Technology Faculty, making their task of shortlisting the top 10 concepts much more difficult than usual. The decision was very tricky, in fact, 12 students were selected to pitch their ideas to our three judges in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ presentation format! All 12 competitors really excelled in presenting their products, with each student displaying the school’s key values of Pride, Ambition and Excellence, and whilst the competition was fierce the atmosphere in the green room was wonderfully supportive and encouraging. This year’s judging panel commented on how strong the field was, complimenting each entrant for the level of ingenuity and confidence displayed in their demonstrations. Unfortunately, as with all competitions, some tough choices had to be made in order to decide on the top three entries, but, it was great to see how pleased the students were for the winners, despite not being chosen themselves. The competition now enters the final stage, with those selected moving forward to represent Trinity against Pershore High School, where they will pitch to a new set of judges with the hope of bringing home the £250 prize, kindly sponsored by Alcoa. The Creative & Technical Department would like to thank all students and staff involved, it was an exciting morning and a pleasure to see the future of design is in good hands. Entrants: Emily B - popcorn machine; Sameed A - rotating bench; Evie T - projector; Kaleigh R - birdhouse CCTV camera; Abi S - solar pool; Ellie M - solar wheel-chair; Elliot D - solar watch; Chloe B - heated ski Jacket; Emily N - solar Jewellery Winners: Iraj I - solar lamp; Anya O - CCTV plant pot; Lucy H - solar toothbrush
SCHOOL NEWS SCHOOL GETTING BACK TO NORMAL…. UNIFORM As we move out of COVID restrictions to some sense of normality, Trinity will be reinstating its school uniform policy. During the COVID pandemic we have accepted alternative outdoor wear over blazers and supported parents when during lockdown uniform has been harder to obtain. After half-term we will not be allowing hoodies or similar to be worn over the blazer. Coats and PE tops will still be allowed however, as we hopefully move to warmer days these will be needed less. Blazers must still be worn over PE kits on PE days. If students want to wear a black v neck jumper/cardigan with or without a log this is permitted. In addition please remind your child not to dye their hair a vivid colour, have facial piercings or nail extensions over the half term as these will not be acceptable at Trinity. SCHOOL DAY Please be advised with Year 11 & 13 ending their education at Trinity, the school day has been amended to enable all students to have maximum learning opportunities. All students in Year 9 & 10 will start at 8.45am and end at 3.05pm. Year 9 will continue to arrive and leave via the Easemore entrance and Year 10 at the Grove Street entrance. We will continue to have separate breaks and lunches but there will be no split breaks or lunches. YEAR 9 & 10 SUMMER ASSESSMENTS Students will be sitting end of year assessments in the Summer Term. Teaching staff have been providing revision materials and resources to support student’s preparation for these. Year 9 & Year 10 – Week beginning 21st June
SCHOOL NEWS GOOD LUCK This week we say au revoir to our Year 11 and Year 13 students. Year 13 will be saying goodbye to friends and staff on Friday at their Leavers’ Breakfast and Year 11 will be having their Prom on 1 July. We will be welcoming back some of the Year 11 students in the Sixth Form in September, but we wish you all good luck for your futures – you have been great, you have overcome the adversity of the last two years, and you all now have the chance to succeed in your chosen paths. YEAR 11 CAREERS EVENT All of Year 11 were involved in a Careers Event ‘Looking towards your Future’, on Tuesday 25th May. The day started with Luke Carnie From Aim Higher and Uni Connect with a positive outlook on the future for our young people. The students then had a carousel of activities with ‘Help in getting a part-time job and money matters.’ delivered by our new Enterprise Advisor, Diana Sharpe. Then there was a presentation by the British Army about opportunities and prospects within the forces. The last session was ‘Different Interview Tips’ presented by Luke Carnie. We finished with a talk from Nick Elston , an Inspirational speaker about resilience and mental well- being. The day was really positive and enjoyed by all.
