AVGAS tanks have been drained, cleaned and refilled. A crane was set up over the man hole for a man kitted up in a hazmat suit with harness etc and breathing apparatus to be lowered into the tank. He simulated unconscious and the top guys winched him up out of the tank to make sure that the rescue gear Page 3 of 9
Mercury Bay Flyer worked. Then he was lowered back into the tank and used a mop to clean up the last of the fuel. Lint free rags were used to go over the whole interior of the tank to get rid of any dust. The pick-up was checked to make sure it is 150mm off the bottom of the tank, ie there can be 150mm of water in the tank before it will be sucked up and pumped into your plane! The guy was winched out and the fuel put back into the tank. Martin Little & Des Gyde look after the weekly checks thereafter. NOTAM’ed section of runway 04/22 has been cleared for operational use again as the grass has recovered well over winter. NOTAM A2545/20 refers The local farmer has been cutting hay late this month so the aerodrome will take on a different look when the runways are not so well defined with short grass all over. The threshold markers define the runway width and length. MBA flew 0 hours in October due to maintenance requirements. His mission to Waikato Hospital was on top of cloud but he didn’t get a window seat as he was required to be laid flat. Good news is he is undergoing good recovery and readying for flying again shortly. He was diagnosed with a TIA (mini Stroke) and his driving, flying licences were suspended for 30 days. Wishing you a speedy recovery Doug.
