My new phone By Donald Roberts - Kapiti Kiwis Here’s what I did to get a new smart phone for myself during the recent lockdowns. With support from Facilitator Brian I put an application to the Kapiti District Council saying I needed a cell phone so I wasn’t cut off during the pandemic. They had some money in a fund to help those who were alone so I asked them for some help I’ve never been to a Council meeting Here’s a picture of me talking to the Council at their meeting. It was very before so it was good to learn how they scary. I’m no good at writing but they do business. understood and gave me time to answer Later I went back to say thank you and their questions in front of them. they wanted to take a picture of me with them. The lady beside me is the Chairwoman Kathy Spiers and she was very kind. She asked me how I was getting on with the new phone and I said it was good so now people can ring me and I can answer it. It made me feel like everyone else and it made me happy. I now have more confidence when out in the town. Follow our stories on the Neighbourhood Connections Facebook page: ConnectionsNZ 4
The Pink Challenge Ladies have fun By Sam Burwell, Nicola McKay and Terrwynn Pryor The Pink Challenge Ladies had a picnic lunch at the Nag n Noggin pub in New Plymouth. The ladies had subway or pizza for lunch. We had raspberry and water to drink. We talked about our next event for our Pink Challenge Ladies get together next week. We have decided to go for another picnic in the park or zoo if the weather is fine. Sam checked on her phone to see when the weather would be sunny. We think we will have salad, rice crackers, cheese and crackers, fruit salad and maybe cheerios for our picnic lunch. We are looking forward to it and we feel excited and overjoyed. It will be wonderful and fantastic. Dream Catcher BBQ The Dream Catchers were discussing in their meeting how nice it will be to hold our meetings outside again. We were a bit over Winter so they planned a BBQ at Avalon Park for their next meeting if the weather played its part – and it did! It was fantastic to be outside in the fresh air. The guys did a great job cooking the sausages and onions on the BBQ. The ladies got the table ready. We enjoyed our lunch together with a boom box playing our favourite songs. So many smiles and laughter – it was a great day together in the sun. Follow our stories on the Neighbourhood Connections Facebook page: ConnectionsNZ 6
Card Making by Sam Burwell - Taranaki Network I go to Card Making at Helen's house. I choose purple and green cards. There is a pink box of paper flowers and I choose the ones I like. I put little butterflies on the cards and I use a little circle stamp. I also use a little horse stamp and an octopus stamp. Photo: Terrwynn Photo: Sam with some beautiful cards made by Sam I like giving Happy Birthday cards to people. I made a Happy Valentine's Day card for my boyfriend Tim. My boxing class Story and photo by Terrwynn Pryor I go to boxing on Monday and Wednesday mornings at 10.30am. It is a strength, conditioning and coordination circuit. I love it. We move our bodies and do some drills with tennis balls and medicine balls. I wear blue boxing gloves. I have made some new friends in the class. Mix-n-Mingles On Friday 6th November the Hutt Valley Network groups along with some extra friends came together for a night out at the Roadhouse. The theme was – Essential Workers. This was to show respect and thanks for everyone that worked during the lockdown. The costumes were fantastic! We had everything from a cowgirl, doctors, police, petrol pump attendant and even Jacinda Ardern! We all enjoyed our dinner and desserts and were then ready to PARTY! It was great to see so many people have a go at Karaoke and see their friends surround them dancing and singing along. We look forward to continuing this event in 2021!! A day at the races... The Tui Network enjoyed a day out at Trentham Raceway... They were lucky with the weather, and Judy was lucky on the day and won some money on a race...
