Introductions: With Michelin Star accreditation testament to its consistently high quality of cooking, The Star Inn at Harome and its hotel, Cross House Lodge are the foodie first choice location for magical weddings and celebrations of all kinds. Andrew Pern’s C14th thatched pub has remained one of the country’s top restaurants for the best part of two decades and is a firm favourite with the ‘insiders’ from the hospitality industry. Visitors to the restaurant return again and again for its ‘home-cured’ hospitality: the combination of highly seasonal menus featuring the best North Yorkshire produce, the uniquely quirky, yet idyllic rural setting and warm knowledgeable service. The restaurant has been extended over the years to add a stylish, modern dining room and bar, overlooking the gardens and providing a contrasting alternative to the cosy, historic bar, low-ceilinged original dining room. Upstairs in the eaves of the thatch are the coffee loft and private dining room with its mural-painted walls. Good weather provides al fresco dining options on the rear terrace looking onto the potager-style kitchen garden. The Star’s boutique hotel, Cross House Lodge, is literally just across the road from the Inn itself. Former derelict farm buildings were fashioned into a happily eccentric layout of nine highly individual rooms around a shooting lodge-style lounge and the ‘Wheelhouse’ private dining room, now licensed for weddings and civil ceremonies. For the wedding breakfast, the extensive lawned area to the side of the hotel terrace permits gatherings of anything up to 200 people in your own marquee with plenty of space for drinks and mingling on the Terrace, whilst midweek celebrations of up to 40 guests can be catered for comfortably in the hotel building. All of our wedding parties take over the hotel giving exclusive use so that events of all sizes have an intimate and homely feel.
Exclusively Yours: We make no separate charge for exclusive use of the Hotel, provided that all 9 rooms are booked by your party so allowing the building to be for your sole use from 3pm on the day of arrival to 11am on the day of departure. Marquees may be erected on the lawns in advance of the wedding, with our agreement, allowing time for your personal decorations. Some parties choose to stay for two nights, allowing for a more relaxed pace often with informal dining to contrast with the wedding breakfast, in some cases even BBQ-style, on the second (or first) evening. There is no charge for use of our lawns for the erection of your marquee of choice (including katas, yurts and sperry tents) permitting up to 200 guests. The actual hire and that of your selected furniture and the decoration of the marquee remains your responsibility. We have obviously worked with a number of marquee companies over the years and can make recommendations to help, if required. Even in the case of a smaller wedding where all of the guests can be accommodated within Cross House Lodge for the wedding breakfast, a marquee provides a ‘dance floor’ option and offers flexibility for your guests. Our own grounds and buildings provide a great backdrop for photographs and additionally, the village itself presents a variety of options, from the surrounding lanes, duckpond, fields and trees – to haystacks and local wildlife, even our own hens, which seem to like a bit of the limelight.

The Ceremony It is not necessary to leave the village for the wedding ceremony. A traditional church wedding can be arranged at St. Saviour’s Church in Harome, just a short stroll along the main street, whilst our own ‘Wheelhouse’ in the Hotel is licensed for all kinds of civil ceremonies. The King Arthur-esque table in the Wheelhouse comprises four sections, which we use in different configurations. For civil ceremonies, we form the table into a half moon shape and arrange chairs for your guests (depending on guest numbers) with an aisle for the wedding couple. For larger weddings a combination of chairs and standing places will be allocated for your guests. Following a civil ceremony in the Wheelhouse, we usually serve drinks and canapés, whilst photographs are taken. Guests have the option to mingle on the Terrace in good weather or in the Lounge. For smaller weddings taking the wedding breakfast within the Wheelhouse, we will then change the configuration of the table, either to a single round table, two leaf-shaped half tables or four quarter tables. Wedding Breakfasts A whole range of gourmet options are available to suit your appetite, including a 7 course tasting menu of seasonal specialities with matched wines selected by our sommelier. Whilst we will design your menu to suit your individual tastes, the following sample menu shows dishes, which have proved very popular in the past based upon a 3 course menu with 3 choices per course and including canapés and coffee.

Rooms at The Inn: All nine of our rooms are highly individual, many with their own special features. Room 5 is a spacious first floor room in the main hotel building and is a popular choice as the honeymoon suite, not least as it provides the perfect HQ for the bride and bridesmaid’s wedding preparations and it is just a few steps down the staircase from the ‘bridge’ to the Wheelhouse for the ceremony. However, everyone has their own personal favourite, whether Room 1 with the bath at the end of the bed or Room 8 with its own piano, and in the past other rooms have been chosen as their colour schemes coordinate best with the flowers and dresses! As most groups of family and friends often include guests with small children and/or guests with mobility issues (or even the wedding couple’s dog), our tariff showing floor locations, flexibility for extra guests and bathroom arrangements is often very useful. Breakfast is taken in the Wheelhouse on the morning of departure and check out time is 11am. ◊◊◊◊◊ Events Co-ordinator: Natasha Pajek will handle any enquiries you may have and draw up a proposal for you, if you wish. Once a wedding is booked, you will continue to liaise with her and she or her Assistant will be in attendance on the Big Day to oversee the arrangements. Please contact Natasha for further information, including a budget proposal, testimonials and list of recommended wedding partners. To make direct contact, telephone 01439 770397 or email weddings@thestarinnatharome.co.uk.
