Our Purpose at Each Level • 10s – players have fun and learn the game of softball. • All players will be rotated in and out of games • 12s – athletes are building on their skills for future success and becoming more competitive. Players can expect to play a variety of positions, but some athletes may begin to specialize. • All players will be rotated in and out of league games. At tournaments playing time will be fair, but equal playing time is not guaranteed • 14s-18s - athletes are building on their skills for future success and becoming more competitive. Players can expect to play a variety of positions, but more athletes will begin to specialize. • Regarding playing time – all players will be treated fairly, but equal playing time is not guaranteed

10’s and 12’s Rec / In House and League Play • Rec / In House Teams 10s and 12s • 10s and 12s will be divided into equal teams (as possible) to practice and play games with area teams during the week. (Minneota, RTR, Tracy, Slayton, Hendricks…) • In House teams will have three nights of softball per week; two practices and a game. • Uniforms /Equipment • 10’s - T-shirt Provided • 12’s – Issued a Uniform Jersey (Jersey pick up day) • Equipment Needs (Glove, Pants/Slider, Cleats)
14’s and 18’s Southern Star League Play • Southern Star League • 14s and 18s will be divided into equal teams (as possible) to practice and play games within the Southern Star League • League is based in Mankato – we will play teams in Southwest Minnesota. (ie. Wabasso, Windom, Tracy, Jackson, Truman, Sleepy Eye, St James, Lamberton) • Will have three nights of softball per week; two practices and a game. • Uniforms /Equipment • Issued a Uniform Jersey (Jersey pick up day) • Equipment Needs (Glove, Pants/Slider, Cleats)
Spring Clinic • Free “Intro to Softball” Clinic for 10’s & 12’s • Marshall High School Fields • April 18 • 10’s - 1-2:00pm (current 2nd, 3rd, 4th grades) • 12’s - 2-3:00pm (current 5th & 6th grades)
Practices • Coach Skalicky and Coach Houseman will be running all practices for In House. • 10/12 Rec Teams - Parents that are interested in coaching a team during games are encouraged/welcome to attend practices as well. • Parents are encouraged to ask questions about how we teach fast pitch, equipment, and positions on the field before or after practices.
Summer Practice Schedule • Regular Practice Schedule starts June 7th • Tentative Schedule - Check the website for final times • Teams and Game Schedules will be announced week of May 24th • Season goes thru July.
Game Days • 10U & 14U – WEDNESDAY • 12U & 18U - THURSDAY • 6:00 PM • 10U – 1 Game • 12/14/18 – Double Header
Travel Tournaments • Player commitment is needed to finalize tournament selection • Tournament Calendar – Fill out on Registration • Calendar will be maintained on the MAFSA Website
Player – Eligibility Eligibility: Players attending Marshall Public & Private Schools receive roster priority*. Players not attending Marshall Public & Private Schools must receive MAFSA Board Approval. Compete on a MAFSA in House team – (10U & 12U Teams). Try out and be selected for a Travel Team. Must be committed to tournament dates. Absence from tournament dates must be noted before tryouts.
Player Eligibility • Roster Priority: Marshall Public & Private School players will not be cut from a roster to make room for a player who does not attend Marshall Schools. Open roster spots not filled by a Marshall player can be filled by players not attending Marshall schools when approved by the MAFSA Board. The MAFSA board reserves the right to adjust the roster size as needed. Non-Marshall players will be selected either through a try-out or to fill a specific roster need.
Player Participation • Once a roster is set, all players will be treated equal and no distinction of Marshall or Non-Marshall player will be made. Playing time, will be decided by the team coach and will be based on player performance.** Playing time for travel teams will be fair but not equal. • Player Performance is based on: Practice Attendance Practice Participation Player Performance Sportsmanship

Jersey Fee • 12U - 14U - 16/18U • $50 Check payable to MAFSA • Due when Jersey’s are handed out ~ (first practice) • Check returned when jersey returned

• Philosophy 12U & 14U Travel • For those girls interested in a more competitive level of play, a traveling team is offered. It requires a greater commitment, in that each player is expected to attend all practices and tournaments. Emphasis is on skill development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. For competitive play, a team size of 12 is ideal. • Age Divisions • 12 and under (as of December 31, 2020) • 14 and under (as of December 31, 2020) • Eligibility • Players are eligible to participate if the following are met: • Attend Marshall Public and Private School (unless board approved) • Compete on a MAFSA in-house team (10U & 12U) • Try-out and be selected for a travelling team • Must be committed to the tournament dates (absence from tournament day/days must be noted before tryouts)
12U – 14U Travel Tryouts • Sunday, March 28th at MHS • 12U Travel • 2:00 – 2:45 pm • 14U Travel • 3:00 to 3:45 pm • Tryout committee • The tryouts will be conducted by the Marshall High School coaching staff and MAFSA board members. Independent, non-biased evaluators will include any of the following: MHS coaching staff (players parents will be excluded), SMSU players/staff, and or knowledgeable softball community members.
