Stingray Mission
The Little Rocky Run Stingrays are an inclusive, community-based swim team.
Our philosophy is to foster a love for swimming to every member of the team, no matter
their ability, and offer opportunities during the summer swim season for personal
development and success.

We participate in the Northern Virginia Swimming League (NVSL) and Western Fairfax
Developmental (WFDL) Leagues. We help each of our swimmers achieve their fullest
potential by offering knowledgeable and skilled coaching and encouraging strong family
involvement and support.

Our goal is to instill in our swimmers the principles of hard work, good sportsmanship
and team unity. We pride ourselves in promoting a courteous, enthusiastic and
supportive environment at all times as we represent ourselves and our community.

We provide a safe and fun environment that encourages each of our swimmers to do
their best. We promote good citizenship by recognizing individual achievements and
contributions to our team both in and out of the water.

2022 Stingrays New Swimmer
         Evaluation
**New swimmers may not participate in regularly scheduled practices
until they have been evaluated to ensure they are properly placed. The
safety of all swimmers is always our top priority.

  New swimmer evaluations are scheduled for May 22, 2022 from 4pm-5pm
            Manassas Community Center 99 Adams Street
                         Manassas, VA 20111

A sign-up genius will be sent to all NEW 8 and under swimmers ahead of
evaluations so you can choose a convenient time-slot.

2022 Time Trials
★ Saturday June 11th - Time Trials
  ○ Warm-up begins 7:30am

★ Monday June 13th - Make-up Time Trial
   ○ Warm-up begins 5:30pm
   ○ If cancelled due to weather, etc., this event will NOT
     be rescheduled

★ Swimmers may swim each stroke only one time during
  time trials.

Coaches Clinics
★ For the 2022 season, clinics will focus on racing
  techniques such as starts, turns and finishes.
  ○ All clinics will be ONE hour in length* and will start
    immediately following the 9-10 practice.
  ○ Registration for clinics is open to swimmers 9 yrs & up.
  ○ Attendance firmly capped at 36 swimmers per clinic.
  ○ There will be 4 clinics held once per week throughout the
    summer swim season. Specifics dates/content will be
    communicated by Coach Emily.
  ○ Swimmers must COMMIT their attendance through an
    online sign up.
     *this is a change to prior years’ clinics

Social Events
Pep Rallies Fun themes, games, music, food trucks, etc.
  Pep Rally Fridays this year: 6/17, 6/24, 7/1 and 7/15 @ 6pm (Rec #2)

                   Eligibility
● The eligibility of a swimmer to compete in an age group is determined by
  his/her age on June 1 of the current year.

● NVSL/Saturday meet entries for each swimmer is determined using the
  ladder and coaches competition strategy.

● Swimmers may only swim each stroke one time during a “swim week”
  (Saturday to Saturday).

Important Weekly Deadlines
                        Parents must DECLARE swimmer availability for the
Tuesday      12pm       upcoming Saturday meet. If NOT declared by this timeline,
                        your swimmer will not be seeded.

                        Swimmers’ families are notified that they have been selected

             8pm        Updated ladder is posted (after opposing team seeding is

Important Weekly Deadlines

● Please don’t miss deadlines!
  ○ Usually not recoverable because of the processes that
     we’re required to follow.

● Monitor email closely!
  ○ Unexpected things can and do happen. Changes often
    have to be made with very little advance notice.

Little Stingers
The Little Stinger program is for our youngest swimmers who have limited time in the water.
● The purpose is to create a “water safe” environment that teaches our youngest swimmers the first
  basics of learning how to swim
● Typical age range from 4-8 years old
● Safety in the water and on the pool deck is top priority
DETAILS:
● Coach Cara & the rest of the Little Stingers coaching staff will assess the abilities of all Little Stingers
  and place them in different practice groups.
●   EVALUATION for Little Stingers will be held Saturday, June 4th. Details to come.
● After evaluations, parents will be given their swimmer’s specific practice time.
  ○ The different practice groups will each be 30 minutes and happen M-F mornings. Specific
      information about groups and practice times are subject to enrollment numbers and skill levels and
      will be shared after evaluations.
● Practices start after the last day of school with FCPS (June 13) through July 22nd.

Volunteers
❑   Volunteer job signups will open May 16 @ 8pm. We expect them to fill quickly.
❑   Registration fees for both Stingrays and/or Little Stingers must be paid in full for
    families to be able to access/sign up for volunteer positions on the team website.
❑   Each Stingray family is required to volunteer their time/talent to ensure all
    meets/events run smoothly. Please be sure to report for all of your jobs on time.
❑   Volunteer Obligation:
    ✔ 7 jobs this season, per family, not per swimmer.
         *Timers slots limited to one member per family, per meet.
         Minimum age to time is 18 years old.
         *Minimum age for all other volunteer jobs is 16 years old.
         *We request each family sign up for a maximum of two jobs per meet to allow
         every family the opportunity to volunteer.
    ✔ Little Stingers ONLY: 2 jobs are required.
❑   If something unexpected happens during the season, a “Job Swap Spreadsheet” will
    be available for job switches. It is your responsibility to find a replacement.
