“Beyond the Horizon” Lions Roar The official newsletter of Lions of Virginia District 24-I Vol. 1, No. 6 March 2019 Connecting the clubs, communities & needs for the Lions of Central and Southeastern Virginia. We Serve! Virginia is for LOVFers Since 1972, the Lions of Virginia Foundation (LOVF) has lived up to the Lions motto “We Serve” by helping people in need throughout the state of Virginia. These monies come from the sale of the LOVF raffle tickets and club donations. Each year at the Virginia State Lions Convention, LOVF holds a raffle. Every club is encouraged to sell tickets to support LOVF. The 1st prize is $10,000! Second and third prizes are both $500.00. Plus the Lion who sells the winning ticket(s) gets $100.00 just for selling it. Besides supporting LOVF, it’s also a great fund raising project for your Lions Club, whether it is large or small. Each book contains thirty (30) tickets which sell for only $1.00 each, a total of $30.00 per book. The participating club keeps $20.00 and returns $10.00 to LOVF for each book sold...2/3 for your club and 1/3 for LOVF. The ticket stubs and monies must be turned in at the State Convention no later than Saturday, May 18, 2019. The drawing will be held on Sunday morning, May 19, 2019 during General Session following the District meetings. If no one from your club will be attending the State Convention in Chesapeake, VA please contact your district LOVF representative and they will be happy to take your ticket stubs and check for you. Remember, the ticket stubs will not be included in the drawing without payment. Checks should be made payable to LOVF. Great, easy fundraiser!!!! Win-win situation...especially for the winners☺ Please support your Lions of Virginia Foundation...it is your foundation! Vol. 1, No. 5 Page 3 Hampton Roads Vision Walk set for April 7th We’ll be celebrating the Foundation Fighting Blindness’ Hampton Roads VisionWalk community fundraiser and festival on the afternoon of Sunday, April 7 at Neptune’s Park on 31st Street. (11:30 AM registration) What a fantastic district project to show prospective new members What Lions Do by involving them in raising funds and awareness for people fighting blindness. FFB has been instrumental in funding research which has identified 237 Gene mutations that cause blindness. They have helped develop the first gene therapy drug that is in use today! HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED? Step 1: Any member of any club may participate by joining the Lions Pride of 24-I https://bit.ly/2XofMb5 . Just click the join button or if you’d rather just donate there is a button for that too! The VisionWalk is full of family-friendly fun – complete with a live DJ, free food & drink, face painting, and hundreds of smiling faces! Step 2: Re-think what it means to fundraise. Lions districts I and L are putting together a 10x24 Challenge to help make the com- petition as fierce and as easy as possible! All it takes is $10 from as many 24-I Lions as possible. Imagine if all 2301 Lions in 24-I could donate just $10. If every one of us donates at least $10, that means over $23,000 goes to the FFB and their search for a cure for blindness. Talk to your club – you’d be making a bigger difference than you think. Step 3: Come out on April 7th to celebrate the VisionWalk with me and as many other Lions as we can fit into Neptune’s Park! You might even be leaving with a mystery prize. The District 24-I club that raises the most money will be publicly recognized on stage and rewarded for their outstanding efforts! I hope I can count you in for an awesome spring, filled with reasons to celebrate our friends, our families, and our fraternal bond as Lions!
