Calendar for Practice In an effort to ensure our students are GROWING, even over the summer, we have created a practice calendar for them to practice over the summer. Summer practice begins on Monday, June 1st. We want to make sure students avoid the summer slump, which is a decline academically when they return for the new school year. Club 615 Summer Edition ● Club 615 is a virtual book club for the scholars of STRIVE Collegiate Academy. This community was started by our 8th Grade ELA instructor, Mr. Cannon, as a way for students to share their thoughts and to experience the magic of a good book, while away from the school building. ● Moving into the summer months, our objective is to continue encouraging our students to stay connected with one another and to push their literacy development. With this goal in mind, Club 615 will be included in the STRIVE 2020 Summer Work. STRIVE Collegiate Academy Dress Code In order to minimize distractions and to foster a sense of unity at the school, STRIVE students will wear uniforms. The STRIVE uniform will help foster a professional culture focused on learning and avoid distractions. Having students wear uniforms will also promote a sense of belonging for students, which can help increase student effort and investment. Students will be expected to be in full uniform every day. Positive behavior will be fostered through dress code and uniform privileges as decided by student input. For example, those students who have received a certain distinction for model behavior may be allowed to wear an alternative dress code such as jean day; students will be able to wear professional attire on their birthdays. We will also hold occasional dress-for-success days during which students can wear professional clothing to allow students to learn to make appropriate choices for interviews and the workplace. Important Information for 6th Grade Parents State requires an additional immunization before entering 7th grade 2020-2021 Students currently enrolled in a Tennessee school and entering the 7th grade in August 2020 must provide the school an updated Tennessee Immunization Certificate with proof of an additional immunization: 1. Tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis booster (“Tdap”): required regardless of Td history (2013 update) The Metro Public Health Department and Metro Nashville Public Schools encourage you to get these immunizations NOW to avoid long waits in clinics and doctor’s offices. Schedule a visit with your child’s doctor or primary care provider for the immunizations. Immunizations may be available through the Metro Public Health Department if your child has TennCare, no insurance or insurance that does not pay for vaccines. Appointments are required. The law requires parents to provide an updated immunization certificate to the school before the student can start 7th grade. You will only need to have proof of the additional immunization mentioned above on the updated immunization certificate. You can turn in the certificate to your child’s school as soon as you have it completed or no later than the start of school August 4. For more information you may contact: Metro Public Health Dept.
