Allow your children to deal with their own friend issues, as this is how they learn to be good friends and make good friends. Fun is imperative in our planning and preparation and special fun days are organized during the year. These include theme weeks, special celebrations, market days, Heritage Day and a pool picnic party at the end of the year. Galas G

Information Evening This is held for parents at the beginning of the school year, usually in the first week. Joy J Join us for the Joy of Learning! K Kids are our business. We as teachers are professional people who have studied the development and learning intricacies of children. Please trust our judgment when dealing with your children as, together with a professional qualification, we have years of experience in dealing with children, their parents, and the common ‘occurrences’ of school life. Therefore please make use of the correct channels of communication when dealing with an issue or problem. First consult your child’s teacher on the matter at hand. If you feel that you have not received the desired response, please make an appointment with either the Head of Phase, the Deputy Principal, or the Principal. Kindness Kindness costs nothing and all pupils are encouraged to treat others as they would like to be treated! L Library Pupils visit the library once a week. Our library is growing and a weekly library visit, as part of their timetabled lessons, takes place in the Senior Preparatory Phase. Your child will choose a library book to take home for the week and will enjoy a story in this time. Library bags are available from the Uniform shop to ensure that library books are protected while in your care.
Lost Property This continues to be an issue as the majority of items in the box are NOT MARKED. Children must be encouraged to take responsibility for their belongings, as it is impossible for a teacher to find items that are lost, especially when they aren’t marked and when they invariably end up at someone else’s home. Please assist us in this regard. Should your child lose any of their belongings these items, if marked, can be recovered from the second hand uniform shop. Trading hours may be found in the term calendar. Contact Mrs Christine Hall on 082 930 5370 or email her on: christineahall@icloud.com. Lunch A healthy, well-balanced lunch is necessary to give pupils the required concentration and energy for a busy day here at TVC. Market Day M Please see Entrepreneurs Day. This is a most enjoyable learning experience and to ensure that it is pleasant for all, a strict Market Day policy is in place. Detailed information is sent home regarding Market Day closer to the date. Medicine Dispensing of prescription medicine takes place only through the office with a signed parent consent form. Also see ‘Illness & Injury’ Monitors Grade 6 pupils are chosen on a rotation basis to assist with the duties in the Preparatory School. Morning line up All SP pupils are required to assemble in the grassed area outside the entrance to the Explorer Campus before school, where they will congregate for line-up at 7.40 am. Motivate your child by praising him/her, being involved and up to date with what is going on at school and always keeping a positive attitude around your children. Music lessons take place as part of the Academic day. Private music lessons are available at the school. For more information, contact the music department. Newsletters and notices N These are sent home on a regular basis. Please make the effort to read all notification as this is the only way you will know what is going on at school for the sake of your child. Often children miss out on fun activities, outings, prepared work for assessment etc, because parents haven’t READ the notices or newsletters. Please place important dates, reminders, calendars etc, in an ‘eye-catching’ position somewhere in your home. In addition, please remember to check the D6 Communicator on a daily basis. Notice Board All sports teams are displayed on the notice board outside the western restrooms on the ground floor. It is the pupils’ responsibility to check these on a regular basis to ensure that they are aware of the requirements for all fixtures. O Office hours The Explorer Office is open from Monday to Thursday between 07h30 and 15h30 and until 14h00 on Friday.
Outings Please see Excursions Outreach This is part of the ‘Eco’ pillar of Tyger Valley College, and our children are often integrated into outreach programmes, activities and visits. Our Outreach pillar is a strong reflection of who we are as a school. PTA (Parents & Teachers Association) P This is a group of dynamic, involved parents at Tyger Valley College who organise and run special events and functions during the course of the year. We encourage you to get involved. Parents You are the heart and soul of any school. We completely understand the love a parent has for his/her child/ren. We encourage parents to see their children as unique, awesome individuals who are capable of making mistakes. We know how to deal with these, and they are most often, not a reflection of your parenting, but perfectly normal. To use these ‘behavioural’ issues to teach, we have to acknowledge the fact that our children aren’t perfect. Please accept our authority to discipline your children fairly and in accordance with our policy Parent Interviews These are held at the end of the 1st and 2nd terms. Parents may book 10 minute slots with teachers to discuss the academic progress of their child/ren. Parking Please do not use the parking lot as a meeting place to discuss teachers, other children or issues you may have. Rather make use of the correct channels of communication as explained above. Issues can be easily resolved if dealt with responsibly and appropriately whereas idle car park chatter over these issues often causes more harm than good. POPI Form In accordance with the Popi Act, you will be required to complete the POPI FORM each year for each child in your family at TVC. The form grants or denies TVC the right to publish photos of your child on the TVC’s official Social Media sites (website, Facebook and Instagram); school magazine and other TVC marketing related items. Punctuality Please be punctual. A demerit will be issued to continual latecomers. Prize Giving This annual event is one of the highlights of our year. It takes place in the evening during the last week of the 3rd term. All pupils are required to attend and they are to wear their formal uniform. Psychologist is available at school for consultation with parents and teachers regarding various social, emotional and behavioral issues that may occur. Referral is made by the teacher concerned in consultation with the parents. Quality of work Q

Reading is fun and even if your child does homework at school in the optional homework R session, please still endeavor to listen to your child read. Afrikaans books must be read daily as well. Religion TVC is a school with a Christian ethos. Assemblies are conducted accordingly. Remedial classes are available at school through the Academic Enrichment Centre upon referral by the teacher. This is charged at a minimal termly rate. Reply slips These must be filled in, signed and sent back to school by the requested date. These will be for sport fixtures, outings and bus trips, extra-curricular choices for each term and general information regarding events and functions at the school. Please always reply, it helps with organisation and efficient management of the school. Reports Pupils’ reports are issued 3 times a year. These are made available for collection at the Explorer office BY PARENTS ONLY. Routines must be established. Encourage your child to put out his/her clothes and to pack his/her bag in the evenings. Teach your child to be responsible and to take care of his/her own things. Make sure your child knows what activities they have chosen for extra-curricular and whether or not they are participating in week-end fixtures. School hours S School hours are from 7:40 to 15:00, Monday to Thursday and 7:40 to 13h30 on Fridays. Voluntary homework sessions are offered to the pupils from 14h00 to 15h00. Sport Please refer to the extra-curricular timetable, prepared and issued on a termly basis.
