Edition #8 2020 Week 9, Thursday 10th December Dear parents and community members, Welcome to the penultimate newsletter for 2020. We are into the home straight and plans for 2021 are in full flight, while we are also still working hard to finish off 2020 on a positive note. Our Year Three students enjoyed a two-day camp at Rottnest last week and I’m sure many happy memories were created. My sincere thanks to the teachers and education assistants who attended the camp, making it possible for our students to have this fantastic experience. Mr Davey led the camp and did an excellent job, and I’m sure the community joins me in thanking Mr Davey for his efforts. I’m also sure that everyone who went on camp slept soundly on Friday night! Our Year Six students participated in their Graduation Ceremony yesterday. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate their primary school years and to mark the end of their primary education. Thank you to our teachers and education assistants in the senior years for planning the graduation and preparing the children for the event. Thank you also to Mrs Harmer-Watkins who lead the organisation and management of the ceremony. Our Play and Learning Program for 0-4 year olds has wrapped up for the year. Thank you to Mrs Vukovich for leading this program with enthusiasm over the last few terms. The PALs Christmas Party was held last week and there was even a surprise visit from Santa. PALs will return in Week Three of Term One next year. Uniform Survey The results are in and the overwhelming majority of respondents voted that we transition to the light blue polo shirt. This recommendation has been endorsed by the School Board and now we will move to slowly transition to this new design. During a three-year transition period, existing Currambine Primary white polo shirts will still be able to be worn. New Currambine Primary shirts, replacing the existing white polo shirts, will be available for purchase at the start of 2022. Thank you to Krystal Walther and Peta Drew for their tireless efforts in working with our uniform supplier to create the new design and helping to bring it to fruition. Thank you also to our school community for taking the time to share your views in the survey. Almost six hundred people responded to the survey so we can be confident that the results reflect the opinions of the majority.
2 To g e t h e r Towa r d s To m o r r ow Year Six Dinner Dance The Year Six students will enjoy a Dinner Dance at HBF Arena which is a wonderful event for the students and an excellent opportunity to use the skills developed over the last two years of dancing lessons. Again, I am very appreciative of the teachers and education assistants and Mrs Harmer-Watkins who plan this event, prepare the venue and participate on the night. Kindergarten Graduations Kindergarten graduations will be hosted on Monday 14th December and Wednesday 16th December in the undercover assembly area. The events will be conducted at the commencement of the school day. Families are most welcome to join us in celebrating the Kindergarten students completing their first year of schooling. Reading Night Rewards The final reward for Reading Nights will be hosted on Monday 14th December. Children will receive an early recess and an icy pole to celebrate their efforts. The names of children who have hit the target will be collected on Friday 11th December. Carols by Twilight Our Year Three students will host the Carols by Twilight on Friday 11th December. The children have been practising long and hard and are looking forward to sharing their performance with our school community. The performance will be hosted at the edge of the undercover area with families seated in the paved area to the west. 7 To g e t h e r Towa r d s To m o r r ow FRENCH DUOLINGO CHAMPIONS As part of the Year 6 online French competition during Term 4 Four Keisuke Samarasinghe and Benny Leon have both been such high achievers in the French Duolingo online competition. They were both joint champions with a score level of 18 in all major French topics. They spent as long as seven hours together during some weekends practising to achieve this high level result. Congratulations Champions! Mr Hafid FRENCH CAFE The Year Six students in TA32 hosted a fabulous French café, Le Café Français, on Thursday 26th November from 7:30-8.30 am. They invited a family member to join them for breakfast (le petit déjeuner). Many of them dressed up as French waiters or waitresses and dazzled their families with their French language skills. They produced their own menus in French, perfected table decorations and some even had a French video to entertain their guest. I was transported to France, especially when I went to the alfresco tables, baked in sunshine. It was so wonderful to see so many families sitting together, enjoying each others’ company over coffee and croissants. I was very proud of all of the students in TA32 for their hard work, dedication and above all gratitude for being able to host such an event. Thanks to all staff members who supported me and the year 6’s to make this such a huge success. A huge thank you to all of the family members that came to the cafe to support their year 6 students. Merci beaucoup! Madame Steiner. A MESSAGE FROM YOUR P & C Thank you for supporting the P & C throughout 2020.
