This year’s Oak Hill Academy Cheer Team has Gold Team page 12
done a fabulous job. The cheerleaders gave their time
and energy to keeping morale up at home basketball
games. There are nine girls on the team. They were
formerly coached by Mrs. Yvonne Rodgers. They are
now sponsored by Mrs. Rhonda Bowen.
Cecilia Zhang, from Chongqing, China, is in her
second year at OHA. This is also her second year on
the cheer team. She enjoys cheering because she
gets to spend more time with her friends in a relaxed
setting. She likes to listen to K-Pop music, but she also
likes the Chinese artist, Zhiqian Xue. An interesting
fact about Cecilia is the seemingly shy demeanor that
she sheds when around close friends.
Cindy Hua is a junior in her first year at the
school. She is from Qing Dao, China. She has a great
time on the Cheer Team and has especially enjoyed
sharing her joy with the Oak Hill Community. She
enjoys traveling a lot. Her favorite place to go is

Japan. Her favorite class in school may be math, but Cindy also
loves reading. She likes listening to pop music. Her favorite artist
is Adele.
Wendy Hu is from China and has been on the Cheer Team
for three years. She loves the team so much because it gives her
a positive outlet to release all of her energy. Besides cheer, she
likes to play golf and work on her art skills. She enjoys watching
Marvel superhero movies. Her favorite TV show is The Voice of
China.
Anisa Alvanza is a junior in her first year at OHA. She is
from Greenburgh, New York. It is her ninth year being a
cheerleader. She loves singing and enjoys traveling. Her favorite
genre of music is rap, and her favorite artist is YNW Melly.
Sofia Xu of Shanghai, China, is in her second year at OHA.
This is also her second year on the Cheer Team. She likes taking
pictures and watching Marvel movies. Her favorite food is sushi.
Her favorite genre of music is R&B, and she enjoys
XXXtentacion’s music. Sofia enjoys math class and teaches it to
small children during the summer.
Raina Wang is also from China and
is in her second year at Oak Hill. While at
Oak Hill, she has entertained the school
with her dance moves alongside her
teammate Cecilia. Besides dancing and
cheer, she enjoys watching soccer. Her
favorite team is FC Barcelona, and she loves watching
Lionel Messi play. She enjoys traveling to South Korea
and watching the Korean dramas on television. Her
favorite genre of music is rap. Her favorites are Drake
and Migos.
CiCi Wang is a senior from Xi’an, China. This
is her third year on ‘The Hill.’ Her favorite class is
AP Art Studio. CiCi loves music, and her favorite
artist is Ariana Grande. Her favorite food is
anything with cheese. Her favorite sport is
basketball which is why she cheers. She wants to
share her passion for the sport with the school.
Kyra Souliere is a senior from Montreal,
Canada. She is the captain of the Cheer Team
and it is her second year at Oak Hill Academy.
She enjoys cheer because it gives her the
opportunity to be a part of something bigger
than herself. Kyra’s favorite food is tartiflette.
She likes rap music and her favorite artist is
J.Cole.
Candice Zhang is from Guangzhou,
China and this is her second year on the
team. She enjoys cheering because it gives
her more time to spend with her friends.
She enjoys taking naps. She also likes to
make people smile by giving them hugs. She
likes hip hop music and her favorite artist is
Lil Uzi Vert.

White Team

Going into this year's season, the Oak Hill Academy White
Team had a talented group of young men. Through skill training
and teaching the players another level of basketball concepts, the
coaches taught the players how to be successful in their sport.
The season started with the team winning their first 11
games. The team stuck to the process while executing good plays
and proved that they could be a very good team. The team went
13-2 this year. The team has had a great season with many
improvements and highlights. In regards to the season, Coach
Andy stated, “The players deserved great commendation for their
great work throughout the year,” and he cannot wait to see the
possibilities next season holds for the team.
Andy Smith of Point Pleasant, New Jersey, is the White
Team's head coach. It is his 12th year coaching basketball and it is
his first year coaching at Oak Hill Academy. With a Bachelor of
Arts in Science from the University of Hawaii, he teaches Health
and PE, Introduction to Basketball, and Girls’ Advanced Fitness.
He lives on campus with his wife Zara who is from New Zealand.
Coach Andy enjoys vegan cooking, surfing, and going to Hawaii.
He also likes art and playing the guitar. His favorite sport is
basketball, and Kevin Garnett is his favorite player.

Meet the Team
Thomas Cunanan Reid is a junior in his first year at OHA.
He is from Toronto, Canada and plays the position of shooting
guard. Besides basketball, he has played soccer, volleyball, and
hockey. He really likes Asian cuisine and loves to travel to the
Philippines.
Christian Carter is a point guard in his junior year. He is
from Chesapeake, Virginia, and this is his second year at OHA.
Besides playing basketball, Christian enjoys playing chess,
running track, and playing soccer and golf. His favorite sports
player is LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers. His favorite
genre of music is rap, and he likes the artist Chief Keef.
Ryan Dunn is a sophomore from Freeport, New York. He is
a shooting guard, and this is his first year at Oak Hill. He enjoys
playing NBA 2K and listening to Lil Baby. His favorite class is math.
He loves macaroni and cheese. Ryan’s favorite in-game moment
is his first time making a basket playing for Oak Hill.
Jasper Wang is a Taiwanese shooting guard in his first year
at Oak Hill. His favorite basketball team is the Houston Rockets,
and his favorite player is Chris Paul. His favorite travel location is
Iceland, and he enjoys swimming. His favorite class is Biology,
and he really likes chicken nuggets.

Andy Rosen is a point guard in his first semester at OHA. He
is from Los Angeles, California, and is a Lakers fan. He has played
basketball all his life but has dabbled in other sports such as
lacrosse and football. He enjoys traveling to New York City, and his
favorite food is burgers.
Cameren Bonfilio is a forward from Columbia, South
Carolina. It is his first year on 'The Hill.’ His favorite sports team is
the Carolina Panthers with Cam Newton his favorite player. Other
than basketball, Cameren has played football and baseball. He likes
listening to rap music, and his favorite artist is NAV. His greatest
moment on the court was when he made his first in-game dunk.
William Brannon of Columbia, South Carolina, is a guard in
his second year at the school. Will is also a football fan with his
favorite team being the Dallas Cowboys. He enjoys playing Call of
Duty. His favorite class is Honors World Cultures. He loves the
feeling of exhilaration he gets whenever he makes three-pointers in
games.
Anees Abdul-Raheem is a point guard from Newark, New
Jersey, in his first year at OHA. His favorite basketball players are
Russell Westbrook and Kyrie Irving. Anees enjoys comedies like The
Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. His favorite food is chicken wings. He enjoys
getting in shape with Coach Meagher in his Advanced Fitness class.
Jervonio Rigby is a small forward from the Turks and Caicos
Islands. This is his first year at OHA. He likes the Portland
Trailblazers, and his favorite player is Damian Lillard. Rigby has been
playing basketball for eight years but has also played softball and Page 7
soccer. He also enjoys reading books, playing video games, and
swimming.
Vince Akins of Maryland is a center in his first year at Oak Hill. He
has been playing basketball for the past 11 years and his favorite team
is the Oklahoma City Thunder. His favorite player is Russell Westbrook.
He enjoys hanging out with friends and going to the gym. His favorite
type of music is rap, and he loves Marvel's Black Panther.
Paul Molay is a forward from Toronto, Canada. He is a fan of his
hometown's team, the Toronto Raptors, but his favorite player is LeBron
James. One of his hobbies is dancing. He also likes to play volleyball. He
has been playing basketball for four years. His favorite moment on the
court was when he made his first in-game dunk.
Amar Diouf is a junior in his first year at OHA. He has been
playing basketball for about four years. He currently plays guard. He is
from Indiana and is a Pacers fan. He also plays soccer, and his favorite
team is FC Barcelona. His favorite sports players are Lionel Messi and
Paul George. Amar loves the feeling he gets every time the team wins.
Daniel Carter is a sophomore from Maryland. It is his second year
at OHA and his eighth playing basketball. He is a fan of the Golden State
Warriors, and his favorite player is Stephen Curry. Daniel loves the
comfort of home, and his favorite food is macaroni and cheese.
Another sport he has played is football. He also enjoys playing
video games. His favorite moment on the court
occurred when he was in the eighth grade and made a game-
winning shot.
Ayman Abdul-Raheem is one of the managers of the White
Team. He is from Newark, New Jersey. His favorite sports team is
the Green Bay Packers. Besides managing the team, he plays
soccer, and his favorite soccer player is Neymar. He loves to travel
to the Bahamas. His favorite genre of music is rap, and he enjoys
listening to J.Cole's music.
Gabriel Tesfaye is the head manager of the team, and this is his first year at OHA. He is
from San Francisco, California. His favorite basketball team is the Golden State Warriors, and
his favorite player is Klay Thompson. His favorite genre of music is rap, and his favorite rapper
is Lil Skies.

Red Team

The Oak Hill Academy Red Team is coached by Mr. Steve
Hebold and Mr. Mike Burns. The team is filled with a diverse
group of boys from as far away as Taiwan to local boys from
Virginia. The team is very dedicated and finished the season at
the NACA (National Association of Christian Athletes) National
Championship; they played a total of four games. Zone defense
shut the team down in the first two games. Games three and
four were a different story. Cal Collins ’20 and Delaney Heard ’20
had 19 points each in game three, leading the team to a 23
point win. With seniors taking the lead in the final game of the
tournament and the season, the Red Team dominated winning
by forty. Brandon Dornevil ’19 exclaimed, “At that moment, the
win felt like all of our hard work paid off. We tried to have fun
with it, since it was our last game. This was an incredible
experience, and I am going to miss all my basketball brothers.”
The Red Team record for the season was 21-6.
Coach Hebold is the head coach of the Red Team. Coach
Hebold has been at Oak Hill Academy for nine years. Before he
worked at Oak Hill, he coached professionally in Europe. Coach
Hebold also teaches Government and Geography. He hopes to
have a solid team this season and to see overall improvement in
all of the players.
Coach Burns is the assistant coach for Red Team and has
been at Oak Hill for six years. His family lives in Kentucky and

Gold Team
B.J. Mack has been at Oak Hill Academy for two years. B.J. is
a 6’7” senior and plays the position of forward or center. B.J. is
from Charlotte, North Carolina, and is going to college at USF. B.J.’s
favorite food is fried chicken and wings. During his free time, he
likes to play video games and spend time with his friends. B.J. likes
science.
Connor Odom, 5’11”, is a sophomore guard out of Annapolis,
Maryland. Connor’s favorite thing to do is collect shoes. Connor’s
favorite food is pizza, and his favorite class is Chemistry. Connor’s
favorite player is Steve Nash. Being able to meet new people from
all over the world and the basketball are Connor’s two favorite
things about Oak Hill.
Daniel Scott, from Buffalo, New York, is a 6’1” guard. Daniel is
a senior, and his favorite part of Oak Hill Academy is being on the

Daniel has free time, he enjoys fishing. Daniel’s favorite class is

Dylan Cardwell is a 6’10” junior from Augusta, Georgia. Dylan

Tobias Rotegaard is a 6’6” senior from Kongsberg,
Norway. Tobias has been playing basketball for 11 years and

Senior Kofi Cockburn is a 6’11” center from Jamaica. Kofi
has been playing basketball for five years and is going to the
University of Illinois. Kofi loves Mr. Pease’s English 12 class.

Darrick Jones is a 6’5” junior from Richmond, Virginia.
Darrick is in his second year at Oak Hill Academy and plays the
position of small forward. Darrick has been playing basketball
for five years. His favorite movie is Rush Hour Three. Darrick
likes the color red. He enjoys traveling to Oregon. One of his
preferred meals is chicken.
Landon Fisher is a freshman from Midland, Texas. Landon
is in his second year at Oak Hill Academy and his first year as a
Gold Team manager. As manager, Landon’s job is to help keep
the team organized. His favorite movie is V for Vendetta and his
favorite food is steak and jalapeno poppers. Landon loves
hockey. An interesting fact about Landon is that he is a dual
citizen of the U.S. and Canada.
Shiryu Kataoka is a senior from Kobe, Japan. Shiryu is in
his fourth year at Oak Hill and in his second year as the Gold
Team manager. Shiryu’s favorite food is chicken tenders. and He
likes the color blue. Shiryu’s favorite movie is Fast and Furious.
