Administration Change Of Date - Day for Daniel The ‘Day for Daniel’ awareness day date has changed. It is now being held next week on Friday 30 October 2020 (Week 4). Students can come to school wearing a red t- shirt to help raise awareness of child safety. (This is not a free dress/gold coin day). Student Resource Scheme 2021 COMING SOON The 2021 Student Resource Scheme (SRS) is on its way. If you opted into the SRS program last year, your child/ children will automatically be continued in this scheme, you don’t need to do anything. If you have previously opted in but now would like to opt out, you will be required to sign a new parent agreement form to ‘opt out’. It is an Education Queensland audit requirement for schools to receive the signed form back for every student if they are new to the scheme or changing participation option. Our SRS consists of 3 parts: 1. Classroom Consumables - this consists of personal items per student e.g. exercise books, pencils, pens, Math workbooks etc (booklist). 2. Classroom Resources - these items are shared throughout the year – paint, glue, laminating & printing, art and craft supplies, STEAM resources etc. These are items which the school can source at a cheaper rate as we buy in bulk and can pass the saving on to parents. 3. Digital Resources - subscriptions to digital resources used to support the curriculum e.g. Mathletics, Reading Eggs etc. The SRS supplies all items listed above to every participant. If you choose to opt out of this scheme, you will be required to request a booklist from the office for your student and source all items listed in dot point 1. Items listed in points 2 and 3 form the levy and all students will be invoiced. For more information on SRS please speak to Danni-elle Atkins via the front office. Chaplaincy Free Dress Day - Dress As A Teacher! Hello! Term 4 is looking to be a busy term with so many events on the school calendar. Coming up next Tuesday, 27 October 2020, is the “Dress as a Teacher” free dress day. There are many different types of teachers to choose from such as music teachers, art teachers, classroom teachers, PE and sporting coaches, university lecturers and much more. I cannot wait to see what the students come up with for their teacher inspired outfits. This free dress day will be a gold coin donation that will go towards the Chappy program at Samford State School. Art Club This term I am starting a Tuesday Art club at lunchtimes for students in the new Makerspace area. At first break, I run a program for Year 4 - 6 and at second break, Year 1 - 3. Last week was our first week and we had over 50 students participating as we focused on making different types of wool bracelets, anklets and bookmarks. In the next few weeks we will move onto other art styles and mediums, finishing with some Christmas crafts at the end of the term. I hope that you have all had a smooth start to Term 4 and that you enjoy the last school term for 2020. Chaplain Joss
OSHC OSHC What’s Been Happening! We have had a lot happening at OSHC over the last few weeks. If you haven’t heard already from the children, we have two new chickens to add to the OSHC garden space. The chickens were donated to OSHC from a community member as the chickens needed a new home. The chickens (Henny and Penny) are very happy and love their new home. Loose parts continue to support the children’s play in interesting ways. In one such example, the children used the loose parts and Lego to create individual and small group collective play where they challenged each other to create as many things as possible within a specific time line. This challenged the children’s creative skills, critical thinking and social skills. The children have been exploring creative artworks in curious new ways. Using the different mediums of chalk, cement and mask ing tape, we offered the children the opportunity to express and explore colour, texture and sense of self. Kristy, Jo, Travis & the OSHC Team
