GENERAL INFORMATION GENERAL The Constitution of The Nottinghamshire Members Golf Club and the Rules and Regulations as laid down by the Management, shall be observed at all times, copies of which are available in the Clubhouse. The Management reserves the right to refuse admission and/or cancel membership forthwith if any member shall be, in the opinion of the Management, causing a nuisance or annoyance to other members, or to other users of the club facilities. Members, guests and visitors must abide by the dress code as laid down by the Management. All members must report to the Golf Shop prior to play and are responsible for ensuring that their guests pay the appropriate Green Fee. The use of Buggies and Trolleys may be curtailed from time to time during adverse weather conditions. ETIQUETTE Safety Prior to playing a stroke or making a practice swing, the player should ensure that no one is standing close by or in a position to be hit by the club, the ball or stones, pebbles, twigs etc. which may be moved by the stroke or swing. Consideration for other Players No one should move, talk or stand close to or directly behind the ball or the hole when a player is addressing the ball or making a stroke. In the interest of all, players should play without delay. ‘Ready Golf’ is encouraged when safe to do so. No player should play until the players in front are out of range. If a ball is played into an area where it may be difficult to find, other than water, a provisional ball should be played from the spot where the original was played before going forward to search for the original. Players searching for a ball should signal the players behind them to pass as soon as it becomes apparent that the ball will not easily be found. They should not search for 3 minutes before doing so. They should not continue play until the players following them have passed and are out of range. When the play of a hole has been completed, players should immediately leave the putting green, not mark their cards before doing so. Priority on the Course In the absence of special rules, always allow faster matches to play through. Any match losing a clear hole on the players in front, MUST invite the match following to pass. Competition Dress Code. All members who enter any club competition must adhere to the Dress Code as laid down by the Club Management. The Committee may deem any member not complying with the Dress Code ineligible for entry to future competitions.
Slow Play It is the responsibility of all players to ensure that a game is played at the correct speed. The Match and Handicap Committee reserve the right in accordance with the Rules of Golf, to penalise players and or groups of players in any competition who are deemed to be holding up the pace of play. General Issues All members have the right to bring any appropriate matter to the attention of the Committee. The member should raise the matter in writing to the Honorary Secretary and the matter will be dealt with by the main Committee or Officers of the Club. Health and Safety In the event of lightning, which the Owner or his representative considers to be dangerous, a klaxon will sound. All players should leave the course as soon as possible. If the klaxon sounds during a competition, play is immediately suspended. Players must mark their ball and leave the course immediately – a further decision will be made by the Competition Committee as to the potential resumption of play in the competition. COMPETITION RULES & FORMAT 1. GOVERNMENT OF THE GAME The Club shall abide by: 1.1. The Rules of Golf as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. 1.2. The Rules and Regulations of the England Golf. 1.3. The Rules and Regulations of the Nottinghamshire Union of Golf Clubs. 1.4. The Rules and Regulations of the Standard Scratch Scores and Unified Handicapping Scheme, Jan 2016. 1.5. The Rules of Amateur Status as approved by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews. 1.6. Competition eligibility rules as detailed in Section 2.1 will also apply. The use of Caddies WILL NOT be allowed during Club competitions, although an adult may escort a junior but not act as a Caddie. NOTE – any golfing matter, which requires to be dealt with by means of formal Disciplinary or Grievance procedure, will be conducted in accordance with the Club disciplinary and relevant EGU guidance and procedures. 2. COMPETITION ELIGIBILITY All qualifying competitions, named trophy competitions (see section 5) and knockouts in all sections of the club are subject to the following rules: 2.1. The English Golf Union recognizes ‘Competition’ and ‘Non Competition’ handicaps. In order to win a prize in Club competitions a competitor must have a ‘Competition’ handicap. ‘Competition’ handicaps are annotated with a ‘C’, whereas ‘NON Competition’ handicaps will have no annotation. In order to maintain a ‘C’ status, members must play 3 qualifying competitions or submit ‘Supplementary’ cards in each previous year. 2.2. To enter knockout competitions, entrants must comply with the requirements in 2.1 above at the closing date for entries. 2.3. Members who transfer their handicap from another club may win a competition prize if their record shows that they have a competition handicap.
2.4. Members wishing to represent the Club in external competitions should, at the discretion of the Match & Handicap Committee, be required to comply with 2.1 above. 2.5. All members and Members of Staff are entitled to enter Club competitions at the weekend and Bank Holidays provided they pay the entry fee and any green fee required by management. All players must have a current and valid handicap prior to the start of any competition, unless the competition is being used for the purposes of handicap allocation. In this instance they should not pay an entry fee and are not eligible to win a prize. 2.6. With effect from the 1 January 2018 members may submit an unlimited number of Supplementary Score submissions per year. Supplementary score cards may lead to an adjustment in your handicap. They may also count towards the allocation of a competition handicap. However, Category 1 golfers may only return supplementary scores during the period 1 September to 31 December each year. 3. COMPETITION ENTRY & MANAGEMENT The ladies, seniors, juniors and mixed sections of the club may have different competition management. The following section applies to competitions run by the main committee. 3.1. All competitions will be played off full handicap, unless specified otherwise, and prizes will be awarded (subject to sufficient entries) in the following handicap divisions: Gents 1: 0-11 2: 12-16 3: 17-28 3.2. Entry to competitions is made via the use of a Competition Card and Touch Screen system only, cash payments are not accepted - details of these facilities are available from any member of the Committee. 3.3. Entry for competitions run by the main committee should be made by entering your own name and up to 3 other names on the relevant entry sheet on the Touch Screen. Members allowing others to enter their name must take responsibility as though they had entered themselves. For Major Competitions a draw may be made to determine playing order within time slots. 3.4. By entering a name, a player has shown an intention to play and failure to turn up without informing the competition organisers may result in disciplinary action being taken at the discretion of the committee, as will leaving the course without good reason (and/or not reporting the fact to the committee) and failure to return a competition scorecard on the day of competition. This may involve suspension from a number of future competitions. In the first instance and for the first offence within the annual competition season a ‘Warning Notice’ will be issued to the individual concerned. Any further indiscretion will attract a ‘Banning Notice’ for a period of one month. In team competitions, only the card marker may be suspended, unless he/she cannot be identified in which case all team members may be suspended. Details of which will be published on the Members Main Noticeboard. Any member wishing to appeal against a suspension must do so within 21 days from the date on the suspension notice. 3.5. Competitions are run on a “Pre-payment” basis and the appropriate entry fee will be deducted from the Competition Account at the time of entering a name on the entry sheet. Members wishing to enter competitions should place money in multiples of £10 in a brown envelope to be placed in the administration box located in the main corridor. 3.6. Any member who has pre-paid but withdraws formally from a competition PRIOR to their tee time will automatically have their entry fee refunded to their Competition Account.
3.7. Any member who has pre-paid but withdraws from a competition AFTER their tee time may be eligible for a refund depending on the circumstances. All applications for such refunds should be made to the Match & Handicap Committee 3.8. On the day of the Competition, all competitors will be required to sign in on the start sheet (in team competitions at least one member of the team must have signed the start sheet) and, if appropriate, on the computer, PRIOR to starting play. This also applies to Midweek competitions. Players are not permitted to enter the competition after they have completed their round. Specific signing in requirements may differ depending on the Competition, and these will be clarified on the day. 3.9. In order to facilitate the closing of the competitions, players are requested to complete the top section of the scorecard by entering the name of the competition, the player’s name and handicap, the date and the start time. Repeated failure to do so may result in players being suspended from a future competition. All players must enter their scores into the touch screen on completion of their round (if appropriate). 3.10. The Match & Handicap Committee will consider any player who does not enter his score for suspension from future competitions. 3.11. In the event of a tie in a stroke play competition, the winner shall be decided on count back over the final 9, 6, 3, & 1 holes of each tied fractional score in order. In the event of tie in the men’s club gross championship the winner will be decided by a 4 hole play off. If still undecided then a sudden death playoff will determine the winner. 3.12. Qualifiers for Medal Finals are the winners of each division, and any equal scores in that division on that day, in qualifying Club Monthly Medal competitions including the Seniors (White Tee Competitions Only) and last Midweek Medal of the month, played since the last Medals Final. (Any 5-day members may be expected to pay a Green Fee to play in the Medals Final at a weekend). 3.13. A gents Order of Merit competition is run between May and September with designated competitions attracting points, which are accumulated and calculated into an Order of Merit table. The top four players are invited to participate in an away day at a course decided by the committee. 3.14. Results will be published by the Match and Handicap Committee as soon as possible after the conclusion of each competition, and in the event of any disputes, the decision of the Match and Handicap Committee shall be final. 3.15. With effect from 1 January 2018 changes to CONGU allow Handicap Committees to increase handicaps above the current limits of 28.0 and 36.0, and they will also increase above those limits automatically as a result of above buffer zone returns in Qualifying Competitions and Supplementary score submissions. As a result limits for Disability Handicaps have been removed and replaced by a new Category 5 for Men and Category 6 for both Men and Ladies, providing for a maximum handicap of 54.0 for all golfers. Players will be able to maintain a competition handicap in all 6 categories. Upward adjustments for all categories will remain at 0.1 and downward adjustments for Net Differentials below Buffer Zones will be 0.5 for Category 5 and 0.6 for Category 6. 3.16. The Match and Handicap Committee have agreed that individual section Competition Organising Committee’s will set the competition handicap limit for each competition.
4. MATCHPLAY KNOCKOUT COMPETITIONS 4.1. The entry fee must be paid before the closing date for entries. Anyone who has not paid will not be included in the draw. 4.2. The first named entrant(s) in any match shall be responsible for contacting the opposition to arrange the match, and should offer three ‘reasonable’ dates, which should include at least one weekend date. Once a date has been agreed, failure to turn up on time shall result in the match being forfeit. Although the first named entrant(s) have the responsibility for contacting the opposition, all players should try to make this as easy as possible. Any difficulties concerning arrangement of a matchplay fixture should be brought to the attention of the competition organiser as soon as possible. 4.3. All matches will be played on the Championship Course unless both parties agree otherwise. All matches will be played from the relevant tee tombstone (White or Red) or from the relevant tee marker if it is placed within 10 yards of the tombstone. 4.4. Wherever possible, all Final matches will be played by the specified date on the relevant noticeboard. 4.5. Each round MUST be completed by the date indicated. In the event of any match not being completed by this date, the second named entrant(s) shall proceed to the next round after confirmation of the circumstances related to non-completion of the match by the competition organiser, whose decision shall be final. No extensions to the completion dates will be granted. After a pairs match date is agreed, should one team only have a single player available, the match should either proceed with the single player or should be forfeit. 4.6. Certain rules governing stroke play are so substantially different from those governing match play that combining the two forms of play is not practical and is not permitted. The results of matches played and the scores returned in these circumstances shall not be accepted. 4.7. Matchplay Handicap Allowance Singles: full handicap difference Four Ball Better Ball: 9/10ths difference from lowest handicap. Foursomes: half the difference between the aggregate handicaps of each side. No need for additional shot as this is a mixed pairs event - extra shots cancel each other out. NOTE - Strokes should be taken from the Ladies index as per the CONGU recommendation unless both parties agree otherwise. Strokes MUST not be taken from both indexes in the same match.

This review will follow the guidance set out in the appropriate section of the CONGU Unified Handicapping System. 6.2. Any handicap appeals to be heard by 2 members of the Match and Handicap committee. 7. MIXED COMPETITIONS 7.1. The CONGU Unified Handicapping System makes recommendations regarding handicap adjustments when ladies are in competition with men and where there is a difference between the SSS of the Men’s and Ladies’ courses. The exact wording is available from either the Men’s or Ladies’ Handicap Secretary but they
have reviewed the competitions played at The Nottinghamshire Golf and Country Club and have produced the following interpretation for application in relevant competitions run on the CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE with Ladies playing from the red tees. Lee Mixed Trophy No Handicap Restriction – handicap allowance 75% No need for additional shot as Men and Ladies play their own par and stroke index. Bassingfield Bowl Greensomes (any combination). No handicap restriction Greensomes exact hcp = (lower playing hcp x 0.6) + (higher playing hcp x 0.4) This figure is then rounded up or down to produce a Greensomes playing handicap All pairs will play using the Ladies par and stroke indices. Dream Team Cup AM-AM-AM (any combination) – 75% handicap allowance. Ladies play their own Par and Stroke index. Men play their own Par and Stroke index. 7.2. There will be no adjustment for competitions run on the ‘SIGNATURE’ course. 8. JUNIOR COMPETITORS 8.1. Any junior member with a CONGU handicap (0-54 for boys; 0-54 for girls) may enter any Club Competition relevant to their gender. In the event that the prize won by a junior member is considered to be inappropriate, an alternative prize of equivalent value will be awarded; in team competitions juniors must be accompanied by at least one Adult member. Teams containing junior members are eligible to represent the Club should they win a qualifying competition subject to the rules of the organisers. Juniors may play in Club matches at the invitation of the Team Captain. NOTE: Recent Health and Safety advice has indicated that junior members may be at risk from injury as a result of carrying golf bags. Neither The Nottinghamshire Members Golf Club nor the Owner accepts responsibility for any injury caused as a result of carrying golf bags. Accordingly, it is the advice of The Nottinghamshire Members Golf Club that all juniors should use a trolley. 9. CLUB PRIZES AND PRESENTATIONS 9.1. Prizes for Majors and Trophy competitions are presented at Club Presentation evenings, which will normally be held in October or November; the dates are published in the Club Fixture List, with the exception of Medals finalists who qualify for Medals Final, who will receive their respective memento on Medals Final Day. All other Prize winners will be expected to be at the presentation evening to collect their prize, or to send a representative to collect it on their behalf. The Committee at their discretion will dispose of any prizes not so collected. 9.2. Prizes for all other competitions run by the main committee are normally issued in the form of credit added to your club membership discount card. N.B. Only use of the card in the bar will result in a discount. You may use the card in the Pro Shop but no discount will apply. 9.3. Any competitions run by the various sub-sections may have different prize and presentation arrangements.
