Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM February 2021 Trestleboard Message from the East; Worshipful Master David Finkelstein My Brothers: Let’s talk about these things: Zoom. I would like to do some things on Zoom. It’s safe and it’s actually easier – you don’t have to drive anywhere. Here are the steps for using Zoom 1. Go to masonzoom.com 2. There ain’t no number 2! It’s just one step! Go to masonzoom.com and you’re in our room! You’ll see a message that says; “Wait for the host (me) to admit you”. You have to have a camera, mike and speakers on your computer to use zoom. You can get away without the camera. If you don’t have those things, you can use your smart phone. Just type Masonzoom.com in the place you go to the internet from, Safari, Google Chrome, whatever your browser is and you will see my face. Zoom EducaBon Session. Saturday, February 12 Zoom session. I would really like for everyone to try to come to Masonzoom.com on Saturday, February 12. Not just because it will be a fun EducaWon session, but because we can then gauge how many people are going to use Zoom. It’s actually easier than going in person- you don’t have to drive anywhere. You can do it from your backyard or from your tub. Who Wants to Read Books to the LiHle Kids? I have moved this to March instead of February, because it is already February and I don’t want to rush anyone. Whomever is interested, please let me know. We don’t need a lot of people, but we can accommodate whatever number want to do it. If you’ve forgoYen how magical it is to have a beauWful liYle face staring at you in rapt aYenWon, hanging on your every word, with their eyes open wide, I will just remind you that it will warm the cockles of your heart. And who knows? By encouraging them to read, you might help their teachers set them on a road to ge\ng an educaWon and becoming the next Walt Whitman, or Robert Frost, or Neil Moskowitz. Who’s Neil Moskowitz? A friend I knew back home. Good guy. (Apologies to the Caddy Shack movie). Panel- The SBgma of Mental Illness. In April, we are going to have a panel discussion on the sWgma of mental illness. The sWgma hurts and actually kills a lot of people each year. The fear and mockery of the mentally ill arose from supersWWon, something that Masonry abhors. We will talk about combaWng the sWgma. The project will be fairly easy to set up. Again, Brothers who want to be on this project, please let me know. Liberty Degree. Finally, in May, we have a project where we are going to need a lot of you. In Punta Gor- da, they have had a lot of fun wriWng and then performing “degrees“, short skits about Masonry. You can read the parts instead of having to remember them. If it’s good (and why shouldn’t it be), we can go to other Lodges and perform it and encourage them to do it too. Please come Saturday, February 13 9:00 am, masonzoom.com. I want to kick off our zoom events with a good showing. And we want to prove the nay-sayers wrong and the aye-sayers right. Masonically, WM: David Finkelstein (941) 587-8800
Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM February 2021 Trestleboard Message from the South; Robert Leonard Hello Brothers, A fine February to all. As you know, we will not be having our meeWng on February 13th at the Lodge, but we will sWll have a meeWng thanks to modern technology. WM Finkelstein has set up an educaWon opportunity as you read above. I hope everyone is able to aYend. I am trying to organize our commiYees and have only made slight changes so far. If you were on a commiYee, I lej you on the commiYee. If you desire to be on a commiYee, please inform me. CommiYees are an important funcWon of a Lodge for ge\ng essenWal labors done for the Lodge and the craj. It is a great way to support our Lodge and help guide our future to ensure we grow. I am also working on organizing an EA degree led by Brother Senior Deacon Hans Heide and an FC degree led by me for the first half of the year and a MM degree towards the end of the year. We have 1 candidate for EA peWWoning our Lodge now and an EA brother about to do his give back. I would like to see those numbers grow and the only way to do that is to bring them in. We need to work on creaWng a Lodge that is Friendly, has Brotherly Love, and and an at- mosphere that promotes these ideals. Let’s start with: “What brings you to the Lodge and what keeps you at a Lodge?” I want to hear your answers and with your help, insWll these ideals in what we do. The Worshipful Master is working hard on making our Lodge inviWng but it will take all of us to accomplish this task. I look forward to what we will do to fulfill these goals. Thank you. Liberty Lodge No. 412 F&AM February 2021 Trestleboard From the Lodge Secretary; Richard Benson Interesting Fact: The Ringling Brothers Circus family was composed of seven Brothers who were all Ma- sons. An observant Mason will readily notice this when viewing pictures of the brothers ( individually and as a group) at the Ringling Circus Museum, at the Ringling Home in Sarasota, proudly wearing Masonic pins and jewels. The seven sons of German born harness maker August Rungeling (original spelling) founded the circus in 1884. The brothers were all members of Baraboo Lodge No. 34 in Baraboo, Wisconsin. All joined the Lodge between January 1890 and March 1891, (two brothers joined together at one meeting). Minutes of Baraboo Lodge show that on one special meeting, the officers opened the Lodge and then all seven brothers took the chairs for the remainder of the meeting. Their father was raised in August 1891. The brothers transformed their small touring company of performers into one of Amer- ca’s largest circuses in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. In 1919 the Ringling Brothers Circus merged with America’s other leading circus troupe, Barnum and Bailey, and became a staple of the entertainment world for some 98 years until the last circus performance in May 2017. (Taken from and article in the December, Masonic Association Bulletin) If you have not visited the Ringling Home and Museum in Sarasota, it is definitely worth the visit!
