The #Originals are excited to participate in Mme. Desjardins’ lunchtime yoga. An excellent opportunity for students to re-center, work on mindfulness and fitness. For both 7/8 staff and students. Join us every Monday at 1:00pm-1:30pm for a time of gathering and well-being. Namaste. Thank you to Mr. Stoqua, our Board’s Indigenous Education Consultant. All 7/8 students participated in Inuit activities, great for building awareness of the Inuit culture and for our own mind, body and spirit. On Thursday, March 21st, our 7/8s were represented by two boys’ and two girls’ basketball teams at the Intermediate Basketball Tournament hosted by Holy Trinity CSS. In the AA division, led by the incredible efforts of Boys’ captain Xavier Beckstead and Girls’ co-captains Kade McDonald and Morgan Woods, both teams advanced to the finals against Holy Trinity. Each match went down to the wire. Though the teams were not victorious, the St. Joe’s Panthers played with pride and determination, accepting tough defeats with tremendous class. In the A division, the Girls team performed well above expectation, securing two wins and narrowly missing a berth in the finals. Captain Saige Atchison led her Girls team well and Henessy St. Louis and Mikayla Summers turned in excellent performances. For the Boys, captain Isaac Charbonneau and his crew would not be denied. After an undefeated run in the round robin, the Panthers met St. Andrew’s in the finals and won 16-8. The AA Boys added their trophy to the Hoopfest Trophy won by the Panthers basketball teams in their showdown against HT just before the March Break. Congratulations to all players on their excellent efforts, tremendous sense of fair play, and for representing St. Joe’s so well in the community. Go Panthers!
Our Panther Power Team successfully raised $400 through the sale of Christmas bracelets and Shrove Tuesday pancakes for the 7/8 wing, allowing us to donate to Ryan's Well. Great work to all our members, and a special thank you to those on the PP Team who arrived early on Tuesday to bake and who helped to serve the classes! There are two fundraisers planned for our group: we are taking over the responsibility of selling fair- trade chocolates and Papa Jack popcorn, as well as a raffle for an Easter basket. Tickets will be selling at the following rate: One for .50 or Three for $1.00. As always, we are looking for donations of yarn, knitting needles, crochet hooks, quilting fabric and thread for work on projects we will donate. Thank you to everyone for supporting our initiatives so far this year!
