Lake Ogemaw Summer Resort Association 2916 Rifle River Trail, PO Box 472, West Branch, MI 48661 Phone: 989-873-3058 Website: www.lakeogemaw.net Email: lakeogemaw@lakeogemaw.org OFFICE HOURS: Mon 11am-2pm Tues 10am-2pm APRIL 2020 Fri 11am-2pm Sat 10am-2pm Closed Wed, Thurs & Sunday THE PRESIDENT’S CORNER Welcome to 2020 -- I hope everyone enjoyed memorable holidays and found time to take pleasure in the winter season, whether it was in the snow, on the ice or at a sun kissed beach. With milder winter temper- atures, the frozen tundra was elusive for those who enjoy ice fishing, but once it did freeze a flurry of ac- tivity commenced. Winter brings with it a peaceful tranquility of silence here at Lake Ogemaw and reminds us that out the dark and cold will come springtime with its promise of songbirds, waterfowl, colorful flow- ers, budding trees and green lawns, along with boating, swimming and water sports. Our beautiful lake will soon be humming with people and activities. Check out a complete list of upcoming events in this newsletter. Thank you to Bill Kuzenko, Cathy Adamski and all the volunteers who participated in the West Branch Christmas parade, as well as Dave & Carol Galbreath, who put on a wonderful New Year’s Eve party at the clubhouse. The January Winter Poker Run was a tremendous success, even with heavy snow falling the entire day. Thanks to Mike & Debbie Seabolt for hosting a terrific Super Bowl Sunday party at the clubhouse, with a record crowd in attendance. Without the hard work of our generous volunteers, social events would not happen. Consider volunteering for future LOSRA events! All members should make sure their current mailing address, email address and phone number are pro- vided to the LOSRA office. You can contact the office during normal business hours, or by email at lakeOgemaw@lakeogemaw.org. Several ballots will be included with the dues notice this year. Members will be asked to vote on the pro- posed budget, a special assessment for the dam and spillway and lakefront property owners will vote on goose population control. The board and committee chairpersons have been working on the proposed 2020-2021 budget, which will be posted at the clubhouse in March. A town hall discussion on the pro- posed budget will take place at the April board meeting. The proposed budget does reflect a $10 per lot increase in dues. Also, a proposed dam and spillway assessment of $10 per lot per year is being re- quested (prior assessment was $15 per lot per year). The goose nest and egg destruction ballot will also be included with the dues notice, but only lakefront property owners will receive the ballot pursuant to Michigan DNR requirements. A new digital sign has been approved, along with a new sound system for the clubhouse/pavilion. The parks around the lake are slated for updating, with 4 parks already in progress. With pontoon pitting occurring to some boats last summer, a committee has been formed to investigate potential cause(s). The board has also been working closely with Marine Patrol for a long-term solution for safety on the lake. Stay tuned for updates. With lawn care season around the corner, please consider purchasing your lake-friendly fertilizer from LOSRA. It is specifically designed for lakefront properties and can be purchased for $15 at the clubhouse. Also, personalized paver bricks are for sale through the clubhouse and range from $100 to $150. You can check out the wide variety of bricks members have purchased by taking a walk around the LOSRA pavil- ion. And please remember to donate your deposit bottles and cans in the Ogemaw County Humane Society drop box at the clubhouse. The yard waste area is for the use of residents only and is for grass and leaves, only – please no tree limbs/ stumps, shrubs, etc. Biodegradable paper bags are acceptable for use at the yard waste site and please follow the rules posted on the entry gate sign. I hope everyone enjoys the busy season ahead. Take a moment to meet your neighbors, join in the activi- ties and keep our neighborhood safe. Thanks to the generosity and determination of our membership, Lake Ogemaw will provide memories for family and friends well into the future. Stay safe out there and have fun! PAGE 7 Well a new fishing season is upon us. This will be the first-time minnows were added in the fall and as well as the spring. This should help keep the predators from eating game fish and stabilize the perch and crappie population under the ice. We will be also adding more minnows in the spring to increase the survivability of the fry and fingerlings through the spawn. Don’t forget to enter the 22nd Annual Lake Ogemaw Fishing Tournament for the largest Bass, Walleye and Pike. The tournament will start the Saturday prior to Memorial Day and go through the Friday before Labor Day. The entry fee is $5.00 and open to all Asso- ciation Members and their guests. The enrollment applications can be purchased at Ka- Jacs, the Marina and the Club House. Let’s take care of our fishery and “catch and release” any under size fish and those you do not plan on eating. The DNR will be on the lake, and even though this is a private lake, fishing licenses are required, and children fishing must be accompanied by an adult with a current fishing license. Good Luck and keep it safe. LOSRA Fish Committee FREE Boater Safety Class Saturday, May 23rd 8:00am—3:00pm (approx) For those 14 years of age and older.
