Owned, run, and much loved by the Richards family, this lived-in Tudor manor house features fine paintings, sculpture and impressive grounds including an ancient pleasure garden. The summer theatre was established in 1969, and we hope you’ll join us for the usual mix of plays, concerts, and comedy that bring the Hall’s pretty garden to life in June, July and August. As always, the audience are encouraged to picnic in front of the lake (with entry allowed from 2pm) before taking their places for the open-air performance. It has been said, that to see Cheshire, you must see Gawsworth, and there can ‘Cheshire’s Gawsworth Hall, built in 1480, be no doubt of the important role this is an Alice in Wonderland fever-dream of black and white Hall – once home to Mary Fitton, Dark Lady of Shakespeare’s sonnets black and white timber dotted with clubs, and maid of honour to Queen Elizabeth I – its garden stage resembling a marquee has played in Britain’s history over the last on a particularly posh village green.’ five centuries.
