Kachemak Bay Campus-Kenai Peninsula College Spring 2021 Scholarship Application Packet Submit to Student and Enrollment Services by December 11th by 5pm Address for mailing or drop off: Kachemak Bay Campus/Scholarships 533 E. Pioneer Ave. Homer, AK 99603 Email: kbcinfo@alaska.edu Introductory Information This packet contains application materials for multiple scholarship opportunities. Each scholarship and its eligibility criteria are described. Students who submit required documents will be automatically considered for each scholarship they are eligible for. Incomplete applications cannot be considered! Double check that you are submitting the following: 1. Application Form 2. Personal Essay 3. Financial Needs Assessment Form To be eligible for the Icicle Seafood Scholarship, you must also include the following items: 4. Proof of residence in the Homer area (Icicle only). For example, a bill with your name and address, Driver’s license with Street address, etc. 5. Unofficial Transcripts: Unofficial transcripts can be found on UAOnline. First time freshman can submit their final high school transcripts. (Icicle only). Personal Essay Answer the three questions below using 300 words or less for each question. Remember to include your name and student identification number at the top of the page. The scholarship selection committee will read and evaluate your answers when selecting scholarship recipients. The more information you provide, the better the scholarship committee will be able to evaluate you as a scholarship candidate. 1. Describe your educational goals both long term and for the upcoming semester. 2. Explain why you are applying for this scholarship (or tuition waiver) and how receiving it will help you achieve your goals. 3. Tell us anything else that you would like the committee to consider when reviewing you as a scholarship candidate. This could include things like your financial situation, your family, honors and awards you have received, challenges you face or have overcome, personal accomplishments or anything else you believe is relevant.
Essay Writing Tips Personal essays should be positive and upbeat, while clearly outlining goals and career choices. Try and grab the attention of the committee with a personal story and then tell us why we should choose you instead of someone else. Take a draft to the KBC Learning Resource Center and ask for feedback! Give the committee an idea of who you are and a reason to select your application over others! Include the following: Who you are now Who you want to be (future goals) Why you are applying How you will use the award Special circumstances you would like the committee to consider
Available Scholarships Kachemak Bay Campus Tuition Waiver KBC offers a limited number of tuition waivers to assist members of our community in engaging in courses they would not otherwise be able to take, primarily for financial reasons. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, and preference is given to first-time awardees. Recipients are responsible for meeting eligibility criteria and paying all fees and expenses not covered by the waiver. Eligibility: Must be registered for 1 or more KBC credits, for credit, not audit. Must be 18 years old, or have a HS/GED diploma. Preference given to new applicants. Kachemak Bay Campus Scholarship Kachemak Bay Campus will award $500 to the successful application to be used for tuition, books or related expenses. Recipients are responsible for meeting all criteria, paying all other fees and expenses. Applicants must show financial need. Preference will be given to first-time awardees. Eligibility: Must be fully admitted to a University of Alaska degree program by award date. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 KBC credits during the semester for which the waiver will apply. Must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress, according to University of Alaska policy. Homer Chamber of Commerce Scholarship The Homer Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a $500 scholarship for a new or returning student attending Kachemak Bay Campus who demonstrates the best combination of financial need and potential academic achievement. Preference will be given to first-time awardees. Eligibility: Must be fully admitted to a University of Alaska degree program by award date. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 KBC credits during the semester for which the waiver will apply. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better from high school or previous college work. South Peninsula Hospital Foundation The South Peninsula Hospital foundation through the Kachemak Bay Campus sponsors this $500 scholarship toward the cost of tuition, fees and books for classes towards a UAA Allied Health program. Applicants must show financial need and capability of successfully completing training. Eligibility: Must be seeking an Allied Health related educational goal. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 KBC credits that meet requirements for Allied Health degree program. Priority will be given to applicants who reflect a commitment to the Homer community as demonstrated in their personal essay.
Icicle Seafoods Endowed KPC Homer Scholarship The Icicle Seafood Scholarship was created to enable students from Homer to attend KPC and may be used to pay for face-to-face and distance-delivered courses from KPC. Eligibility Must be at least 18 years old or have a HS/GED diploma. Must be taking at least one credit from KPC, for credit, not audit. College students must be carrying at least a 2.0 GPA. First semester freshman may use their high school transcript or GED to satisfy the 2.0 requirement Application Form Mary Epperson Student Support & Scholarship Endowment The KBC Mary Epperson Student Support & Scholarship Endowment is sponsoring one $500 scholarship for the FALL 2019 semester. Applicants must attend the Kachemak Bay Campus and demonstrate financial need. Eligibility: Must be planning to register for at least 3 campus-based credits. Other financial awards may be considered to determine financial need. Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club The Homer Kachemak Bay Rotary Club is sponsoring a $1000 scholarship for a new or returning student attending Kachemak Bay Campus who demonstrates the best combination of financial need, academic achievement, career goals and the Rotary principle of service. Eligibility: Must be fully admitted to a KBC or UAA certificate or degree program by application date. Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 KBC credits with at least one face-to-face credit in Homer during the semester for which the award will apply. Preference will be given to applicants who reflect a commitment to service and the Homer community as demonstrated in their personal essay.
