Mercury Bay Flyer March 2020 Editor: Wally Pendray 021 907 782 email: pendrayw@gmail.com Flying Activity: February this year has been one of our driest on record which has been the general case over the top end of the North Island. 16 mm against Historical average 123.9 mm! Grass has stopped growing, runway has suffered because of this with soft patches midsection being NOTAMed and delineated with White X markings. The Annual Tiger Moth Safari 2020 flew into Whitianga Sunday 1 March to bed down for the night. Low cloud and reduced visibility hampered their arrival from Kaipara Flats which was a shame after all the great weather we have been experiencing. This involved 3 Tigers of a 12 aircraft fleet including accompanying aircraft so refuelling and servicing was carried out by members before adjourning to Frankies for their evening meal. Monday saw departure of the fleet onwards to Opotiki and beyond over the next couple of weeks, ending with their AGM at Ashburton. Hauraki Aero Club successfully ran a breakfast morning at Thames on Sunday 1 March with around 3 Whitianga aircraft dispatching and the day previously 4 Whitianga aircraft successfully took in the market day at Te Kowhai. Good weather has certainly enabled plenty of flying to occur and 3 or 4 Whitianga aircraft are flying south with the Tiger Moth Safari as it leaves Whitanga on Monday 2 March. The Informer managed to capture one of the arrivals on video. Page 1 of 9
