Saint Paul tells the Romans that “tribulation brings about ever feel the same way about certain people in our lives. But perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven we’re called to be peacemakers nonetheless—and that starts with character, hope.” Paul knew a thing or two about perseverance. our personal relationships. In that letter, the bishops remind us that as a nation “we have never sufficiently contended with the impact of racism.” In a week when the United States honors the founding principles of this country and that all are created equal, people of faith are called to examine their own perceptions and practices and do their part to ensure equality for all people. Embrace the bishops’ invitation to fight the evil of racism and take time this week to read and reflect on their letter: Wide Our Hearts: The Enduring Call to Love. TODAY'S READINGS: Genesis 41:55-57; 42:5-7a, 17-24a; Matthew 10:1-7 (385). “As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ ” Thursday, Jul 08, 2021 Sometimes the miracle is endurance The gospel for today refers to the amazing powers Jesus conferred upon his followers to cure and revive. But we know many people in Jesus’ day and today do not experience a miracle cure but instead must bear a cross. Our faith gives us the wisdom to know how and when to bear suffering when a solution is ab- sent and when to struggle against injustice; both can be paths to God. Indeed, miracles themselves, the church teaches, are not merely wondrous events; they are meant to transform us and bring us closer to God. Which way are you being called right now? To struggle against suffering and injustice? Or to bow to a cross in your life? Over a lifetime, we may be called to both paths. TODAY'S READINGS: Genesis 44:18-21, 23b-29; 45:1-5; Matthew 10:7-15 (386). “Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, drive out demons.”
GENERAL REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES IS CLOSED BUT -- Registration is still open if: • You moved into the parish over the summer or, • Your child is between the ages of 7-17 and needs to be Baptized or, • Your child will be in High School and is in need of Confirmation or First Communion Parents, if you missed the general registration, please call the Religious Education office at 992-0901 to have your child placed on the class wait list. The Church’s promotion of religious free- dom expresses her solidarity with all peo- ple who seek the good hope for fulfillment in the truth. As Pope Francis teaches: Hope speaks to us of a thirst, an aspiration, a longing for a life of fulfillment, a desire to achieve great things, things that fill our heart and lift our spirit to lofty realities like truth, goodness and beauty, justice and love… Hope is bold; it can look beyond personal convenience, the petty securities and compensations which limit our horizon, and it can open us up to grand ideals that make life more beautiful and worthwhile (Fratelli tutti, 55). The fulfillment of hope is found in Jesus Christ. We praise the Lord who rescues us from sin and death, who helps us to continue reaching out in hope. And as we do so, we also make space for those around us who are reaching out in search of healing as well.

Are you Considering Joining the Catholic Church? Adults desiring to partake in the journey into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church are invited to take the all-important next step: Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). The RCIA is a gradual, communal process of formal initiation into the Catholic Church. It was developed in the first and second centuries of the Church for those seeking Jesus Christ. Our next session will begin in the fall and will culminate with the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil in 2022. Please contact the Parish Office at 992-0901 if you would like more information. You may read more about RCIA on our website at www.stleocatholicchurch.org/23.
O GOD OUR CREATOR, from your provident hand we have received our right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. You have called us as your people and given us the right and the duty to worship you, the only true God, and your Son, Jesus Christ. Through the power and working of your Holy Spirit, you call us to live out our faith in the midst of the world, bringing the light and the saving truth of the Gospel to every corner of society. We ask you to bless us in our vigilance for the gift of religious liberty. Give us the strength of mind and heart to readily defend our freedoms when they are threatened; give us courage in making our voices heard on behalf of the rights of your Church and the freedom of conscience of all people of faith. Grant, we pray, O heavenly Father, a clear and united voice to all your sons and daughters gathered in your Church in this decisive hour in the history of our nation, so that, with every trial withstood and every danger overcome— for the sake of our children, our grandchildren, and all who come after us— this great land will always be “one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.” We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
