PROGRAMMING DURING COVID-19 1 REGISTRATION - All program registration will either be done online, through the mail or dropped off outside our Recreation office in the silver drop-box. No “in person” registration will take place at this time. If the Recreation office opens to the public during our registration period, appointments will need to be arranged prior to arriving at the office. 2 WAIVERS - All participants will be asked to sign/acknowledge a COVID-19 waiver. When registering online it is part of the waivers you agree to at the time of registration. If you are submitting a “hard copy” registration form, please make sure to also print and sign the COVID-19 waiver. 3 WELLNESS CHECKS - Participants will be asked to sign a 14-day wellness check, which will include the following: A. Has the participant had any of the following symptoms over the past 14 days that are not caused by another condition? • Fever (temperature of 100.4 degrees or above) • Flu-like symptoms (such as diarrhea, fatigue, chills, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, headache, cough) • Shortness of breath or other difficulties breathing • Loss of smell or taste B. Has the participant had close contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 in the past 14 days? C. Has the participant tested positive for COVID-19 in the past 14 days? D. Has the participant traveled recently? If so, has he/she followed the instructions per the guidelines from NY state COV-19 Travel Advisory? 4 PRE-CLASS CHECK – Prior to the start of every class, each participant needs to check in with the instructor and provide a verbal wellness check. 5 MASK WEARING - Participants will be required to wear masks/face coverings upon arrival and departure from the program. In some cases, participants will be required to wear a mask throughout the program. 6 HAND SANITIZER – Hand sanitizer will be provided, and your instructor or coaches will have it available upon entry into class. 7 BEFORE PROGRAM BEGINS – A few days before programs begin, a Bedford Recreation staff member will e-mail you any additional information that is required to attend the scheduled program. 4
PAINT PARTY special programs Instructor: Nando Amico If you are looking for something fun and exciting for your child or a group of friends, join this painting party with Nando! This painting adventure is fun for everyone and there is no experience needed! Everyone is an artist & will walk out with their very own masterpiece! Light refreshments will be provided. special programs SANTA’S MAILBOX Santa has dropped off a mailbox “Santa’s Reindeer Express” to the Recreation Department. So, children in grades K-3 have the opportunity to write Santa a letter telling him what they would like for Christmas and after Santa checks his list, he will have his helpers send a personal letter in response. Santa’s letter must include child’s name, age, and return address for a response letter to be sent. All letters must be in by December 17th, (no later) to “Santa’s Reindeer Express.” The Recreation staff will make sure all letters get passed on to the North Pole. ICE SKATING AT HARVEY SCHOOL Program Supervisor: Jim Whiting and staff In cooperation with the Harvey School the department is offering public recreational skating for all ages! MONDAY, JANUARY 18 (MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY) MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15 (PRESIDENT’S DAY) TIME: 12:45 – 2:45 pm FEE: $5 PER PERSON YOU MUST PRE-PAY AND PRE-REGISTER ONLINE. SPACE IS LIMITED. THE TWO-HOUR SESSION WILL BE LIMITED TO 50 PEOPLE TO ENSURE SAFE DISTANCING. MASKS ARE REQUIRED. YOU MUST SUPPLY YOUR OWN SKATES. NO HOCKEY PLAYING PERMITTED. D.J. summer 2021 camp information CAMP INFORMATION All camp program information will be published in our Spring/Summer 2021 brochure, scheduled to be online at the end of March Our goal is to bring a fun and traditional camp experience to the residents of Bedford. Camp will have a theme for each week, so campers will get something new and different out of each camp day. BELOW ARE SOME CONSTANTS WE ALWAYS HAVE AT CAMP: • Arts and Crafts offered multiple times per week • Athletics fun by our Specialist offered multiple times a week • We are expecting to have a swim program of lessons and/or free swim • Fun counselor-run activities with low pressure as fun is the goal • A safe environment for kids to play, have fun with friends, expand their horizons and experience camp to its fullest. Tentative day camp dates for 2021 are June 29 – August 6 at all three park locations. SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES (with anticipation of summer 2021 job openings, make sure you get your applications in) LIFEGUARDS Certified lifeguards (15+) for our 3 pool facilities. Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays, Memorial Day thru Labor Day with limited time off. PLEASE NOTE: Per New York State & Westchester County Health Department regulations, all municipal pool lifeguards MUST renew their CPR/AED for the Profes- sional Rescuer yearly even though your certification may state it is valid for 2 years. GATE ATTENDANTS Mature, friendly, adults who enjoy a fun outdoor environment, working with the public, and being a part of a team should consider applying to be a gate attendant at one of our town pool facilities. Must be available to work afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays, Memorial Day thru Labor Day with limited time off. CAMP COUNSELORS We are seeking individuals who are interested in having a fun and rewarding job this summer. We are hiring individuals age 16 and up to work in our six-week camp program. Students age 15 who have completed 9th grade may apply for our limited number of CIT volunteer positions. PARK MAINTENANCE We are seeking mature, responsible and reliable HS graduates to work with our parks department in a seasonal capacity, mid-May thru August. These positions require you to be able to take direction yet work independently, as well as be able to do manual labor while working out- doors in all-weather environments. Interested candidates for any position may download an employment application at www.bedfordny.gov on the Forms and Applications page. Applications for all positions will be accepted after January 1st. Detailed information on everything that is happening at your Town Camp’s and Pool’s this summer will be available in our spring summer brochure due out in mid-March! 8
PHOTO POOL PASS INFORMATION summer 2021 Did you register for the pool for the first time in 2020 and never received your official photo ID pool pass? Is your photo or child’s photo out of date and you may need an update? If so, please read the following photo requirements and steps that you need to take so that you’re ready for summer 2021. WHAT TO DO: 1. Send an email to recreation@bedfordny.gov 2. In the subject line, please put: Pool Photo (with family name). 3. Make sure the photo is in color and has been taken in the last six months. 4. The image must be of your face only. 5. Only jpeg files accepted (NO pdf or Word files accepted). 6. Each photo must be 2”x 2”. 7. Label each photo with person’s full name. 8. Each person should have their own picture. 9. Photos are needed of any person age two and up. Please be prepared: The official town of Bedford Pool Pass will be required to enter the pool in 2021. You will not be able to use another form of identification. The Recreation Department will mail you your photo cards once complete. preschool programs PRE-SCHOOL DANCE & MOVEMENT Instructor: Lauren Muccino Dancers come and move! Class will start with warm-up stretches and then we will groove to the beat of the music. Attire is comfortable clothing that can stretch (no jeans) and sneakers. Dancers should bring a towel. BABYSITTING SKILLS COURSE youth programs Instructor: Nicole Caviola When this class is over, students will become fully prepared to babysit. Instruction includes responsibilities of the sitter, handling emergencies, simple first aid, feeding, diapering, bedtime and playing. All youngsters will receive a certificate of completion. This program is also suitable for children who may not be ready to babysit but want to be left alone at home. Learn fun spy techniques, lab work, and explore the solar system as you become an astronaut Each week you will be able to sign in at your leisure to learn the topic that will be covered that week. Participants will be sent an at-home kit to try the experiment at home. Discover different design careers and use the design thinking process to solve real-world problems. Whether you have been playing chess for your entire life and want to improve, are brand new to the game, or you just want to have a fun experience with your friends, Chess Wizards is the place for you! SKIING/SNOWBOARDING LESSONS youth progams Instructor: Thunder Ridge Ski Area, Patterson, NY Got snow? If not Thunder Ridge does! Do you want to learn a lifelong sport? Now’s your opportunity to learn how to ski or snowboard in a safe, non-competitive atmosphere with lessons through Thunder Ridge Ski Area in nearby Patterson NY! Bedford Recreation Department is partnering with Thunder Ridge to offer lessons at a reduced cost thru Thunder Ridge Ski Area. Specific days and times are set aside for area recreation department’s to offer lessons to their residents at a reduced cost. Makes a great holiday gift! Lessons are six weeks, 90 minutes long. adult programs PLAYWRITING Instructor: Jennifer Agro - BCT President Have you ever dreamed of writing a play? In this workshop, participants will outline, write and direct a live reading of a one-act play. Each week, we will read the works and discuss each play’s progress. Once the plays are complete, we will plan an evening of readings which will be live streamed to an invited audience. No experience necessary. PLATFORM TENNIS platform tennis programs OPEN PLAY! The lights to the platform tennis courts at Katonah and Bedford Village will be energized for the season between the hours of 4:00pm and 11:00pm. Groups wishing to reserve time can do so by signing up for court time at each site using the sign up sheet posted. GROUP USE COURT RESERVATIONS The Recreation and Parks Department has seen a renewed interest in the great sport of platform tennis in recent years. With this, comes a greater demand for court time. There are three group use sessions for reservations: SESSION 1: JANUARY & FEBRUARY SESSION 2: MARCH & APRIL SESSION 3: NOVEMBER & DECEMBER Group use reservation application forms are available online on the Forms & Flyers page at BedfordNY.gov under "Recreation." KATONAH COURTS Two new all aluminum courts with new lighting were built at the park in the summer of 2012. The new courts have been re-aligned to minimize sun glare in the winter months and a small parking area was created. The courts have been a wonderful addition to the park and are heavily used throughout the fall, winter and early spring. Location: Next to the Katonah shelter located off Wildwood Road up the gravel driveway. BEDFORD VILLAGE COURTS The platform tennis courts were rebuilt in 2003. In 2012 new energy efficient light fixtures were installed at the court. The new lights provide brighter lighting on the court surface. Location: 65 Greenwich Road next to the gazebo area. PRIVATE LESSONS: The town of Bedford does NOT permit private lessons to be taught on any town platform tennis courts or tennis court facilities without approval from the Superintendent of Recreation and Parks. Presently, the building is main- tained by the Building Department maintenance staff with scheduling of the building performed by the Recreation and Parks Department. Important News! The Community House will be undergoing significant renovation in 2021. The project began in November 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by summer 2021. BEDFORD HILLS TRAIN STATION 46 Depot Plaza, Bedford Hills The interior space of the train station is able to host meetings, special events, birthday parties or a variety of programs. The main room may be rented on a space-available basis for town of Bedford community groups, residents and local businesses. The room accommodates up to 75 people and less if you are using tables and chairs. The train station has 10 six foot tables and 50 chairs to accommodate your event. No outside tables or chairs are allowed to be brought in. The train station does not have a kitchen facility so food events will need to be catered. The Bedford Hills train station is rented between the hours of 8:00am – 11:00pm. MAX FOUR HOUR RENTAL Rental Fee is $30 per hour with a $100 deposit. Community Group rate is $15 per hour. Renters must supply Hold Harmless and insurance as required by the town of Bedford. The recycling containers complement the green trash containers which are conveniently placed throughout our parks. Recycled items will be collected on a regular basis by the parks staff and disposed of in separate recycling dumpsters located at each park. dog park information BEAVER DAM PARK HOME OF THE CANINE COMMONS Beaver Dam Road off of Harris Road Bedford Hills Features the Canine Commons Dog Park which officially opened in the spring of 2008. This 1.5+ acre site features three separate fully enclosed fenced areas. There is a small dog area (under 30 lbs), large dog area (over 30 lbs) and an agility area. Use of the Canine Commons area is open to town of Bedford residents' dogs who are licensed and have a valid dog park permit. USE OF THE AGILITY ENCLOSURE The Agility Training is unlocked and open for use except during times when Agility classes are being conducted. The “open” time in the agility area is first come, first served with one person/dog permitted at a time. This separated area offers an option for permit holders in addition to the very social small and large dog enclosures. The North East program offers a variety of year round recreational activities including a six week Summer Day Camp for all ability levels, designed with the specific support needed for participant success in this environment. Programs are highly structured, staffed and closely supervised. Program goals may focus on teaching skills, fostering fun and friendships or teaching and correcting social or behavioral deficiencies.
