LETTER FROM THE CHAIR & UNDERGRADUATE DIRECTOR Congratulations to the Class of 2021! Social distancing, remote learning, and the world on hold: this is not the way we envisioned your last three semesters at the University of Kansas. But despite these disruptions in your lives, you have shown incredible dedication to your learning, to your loved ones, and to your communities. While the circumstances of this particular graduation are hardly ideal, we hope that you can still take great pride in the work that you have done in the Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Department over the past years. We are so very impressed by all you have accomplished. Years of work in WGSS and Human Sexuality have given you the tools to see how intersecting forms of oppression shape the daily lives of people across time and across the globe. Now, these same tools help us understand the different effects of this pandemic. As you move forward, we hope you are able to harness these insights to help us better face the challenges of this moment and whatever lies ahead. We hope that the skills you have gained in our classes, and at the University of Kansas more broadly, have left you feeling prepared to make a difference in our world. It has been our joy to have you in our classrooms, to work with you on your projects, and to see you learn and grow. Please do check in with us in the future and let us know what and how you are doing. We’re always updating our listing of alums, and we encourage you to keep us informed as well. We will be thrilled to hear about all that you do. On behalf of all the WGSS faculty members and graduate teaching assistants, we wish you the very best in your lives after graduation. Please stay in touch! Pam Gordon, Acting Department Chair Nick Syrett, Department Chair (on leave 2020-2021) Stacey Vanderhurst, Director of Undergraduate Studies
