Arts Council We are the national development agency for the arts, museums and England - libraries. Supporting We are a funder the cultural • We support 828 National Portfolio Organisations with over £405 million sector a year of regular revenue funding • Every year we invest nearly £90 million in our open access Arts Council National Lottery Project Grants (including Developing Your Creative Practice) • Capital Investment Programme – supporting cultural organisations so that their infrastructure is fit for purpose in the post-pandemic environment • Cultural Investment Fund – including the Cultural Development Fund, MEND (museums) and LIF (libraries) • Cultural Recovery Fund – delivered on behalf of DCMS • Music Education Hubs - £76m from DfE to for universal music education • Creative People and Places – supporting areas of low engagement Partnership and capacity building • Long term strategic partnerships • Cultural Compacts and Local Cultural Education Partnerships Advice, guidance, access to best practice, evidence and research Wifi available #LetsCreate
Let’s Create – Delivery Plan 2021 to 2024 What next? • Continue to investment in a universal offer for the whole country – including NLPG, DYCP, the Bookstart, Music Education Hubs, and ensuring public libraries can use NLPG to deliver the four Universal Library Offers • Priority Places – we have identified 54 places across the country where we will work over time to increase our support in order to work in collaboration to raise cultural engagement • Place Partnership Funds – support a new funding stream with NLPG to help places build capacity to make a step change in their cultural offer • Support local capacity through partnership with the LGA We will work to help culture contribute to levelling up • We will make the case for culture in helping to build prosperous, sustainable communities where people are proud to live, work and study • We will support places as they develop their ambitions for culture to change local communities • We will work with our other DCMS family arms’ length bodies to advocate for culture’s place in levelling up, and support local authorities to benefit from funding opportunities Wifi available #LetsCreate
Making a New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme difference – • 69% of people think that culture on their high streets make their culture and place a better place to live • high street 75% of Arts Council NPOs are located on within 5 minute walk of a high street renewal • Culture drives footfall, supports the visitor and night time economy, is inclusive and changes perceptions • New Vic is a successful producing theatre, that is also an Arts Council Case study National Portfolio Organisation • Key partner in Appetite, the Creative People and Places partnership which works across Newcastle-under-Lyme and Stoke • Ongoing contribution to high street renewal and attracting investment • A quarter of the local population had visited the theatre at least once in a 12 month period, and in 2019/20 it received 179,000 visitors • Two thirds of the £3 million budget for Appetite was spent in the local economy between 2013-19 Wifi available #LetsCreate
Making a Vital Valley, Derbyshire – Great Place Scheme difference – • Derbyshire CC awarded £1.3, by Arts Council/NLHF to develop the culture and Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site as a destination and heritage embed culture and heritage in local priorities • Creative commissions across a range of artforms and places to link the places together through 24 km of the valley’s length • Support for young entrepreneurs, using the achievements of the past to Case study inspire the creatives of the future – directly impacting on their skills and employability • Expanded the successful Business Ambassador Scheme into new areas, and created a new Business Support Programme • An Experiment Fund programme to enable arts, cultural and heritage organisations located within the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site to apply for grants to assist income generation and try out new ideas Important learning about how culture and heritage interact in a place to support economic development Provision moved online during the pandemic Wifi available #LetsCreate
