Issue 30: 1 March 2021 Welcome to the latest COVID-19 Bulletin, containing helpful information and resources on current COVID-19 topics, as well as practical ideas for childcare services, schools and families to keep everyone healthy and active during this time. COVID-19 vaccine updates • COVID-19 vaccination information, FAQs and fact sheet for NSW healthcare workers are now available on the NSW Health website. • Department of Health vaccination website: Stay up to date with the latest vaccine news here. Information is available in 63 languages, and an option to subscribe to vaccine email updates. • Vaccine Eligibility Checker: click here to see when you may be eligible to get a COVID-19 vaccination. The Australian Department of Health website remains the main source of information on COVID-19 vaccines and the vaccination roll out. COVID-19 restrictions update From Friday 26 February, the following measures apply: • 50 visitors allowed in the home • 30 people allowed to dance at weddings • Increased class limits for gyms to 50 people, subject to the 4 square metre rule • Number of performers singing indoors has increased to 30 • Singing by congregants allowed in places of worship if masks are worn, subject to the 4 square metre rule • Increased capacity for cinemas to 100%. COVID-19 testing and clinics Thank you to those community members who continue to be tested for COVID- 19 at the sign of any symptoms. High testing rates are critical to prevent COVID- 19 from spreading. If you are experiencing any cold- or flu-like symptoms, no matter how mild, please get tested and isolate until a negative result is received. This is the best thing we can do to keep our friends and family safe. There are more than 350 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, many of which are open seven days a week. COVID-19 testing and clinics COVID-19 virus fragments were identified in sewage samples taken from pumping stations at: • Auburn - 17 and 21 February • Glenfield - 19 February More details here. If you live in any of these areas, you should monitor for symptoms. If you have even the mildest of symptoms (even if it appears to be a cold), get tested and self-isolate immediately. WSLHD mobile COVID-19 testing bus WSLHD’s new COVID-19 mobile testing bus is on the move this week with plans to visit various locations across Western Sydney to provide COVID-19 advice and information. For community-based organisations, leaders or groups that would like to discuss partnering with, or booking the COVID bus, email WSLHD-ICH-ICCPCOVID19@health.nsw.gov.au. ‘Going to a COVID-19 Testing Clinic’ children’s booklet A COVID-19 test can be daunting if you’ve never had one before. A handy children’s booklet, ‘Going to a COVID-19 Testing Clinic’ is available to help support families of children aged 3-5 prepare for a COVID-19 test. Join four-year-old Georgie and her brave toy, Horsey, as they go together for a COVID test. A copy of the booklet is available on the Western Sydney COVID-19 Community Resources website. Beating pandemic fatigue Do you know the signs of pandemic fatigue? Do you know what to do about it? As we move into 2021 with no end of COVID-19 in sight, many of us may be feeling fatigued and wondering how we will keep fighting the COVID-19 fight. Burbaga-Burawa Health Challenge The Burbaga-Burawa Health Challenge is a free 10-week program for Aboriginal people in Western Sydney looking to lose weight, eat healthier and prevent chronic disease. Group fitness sessions with a personal trainer and healthy eating plans will be provided to help you work towards your goals. The challenge runs from 29 March – 4 June 2021. Focus on New Fathers Are you a new dad or dad-to-be? Or is your family about to grow? The Focus on New Fathers program provides helpful tips and tools through a free text message-based service called SMS4dads. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a first-time dad, a dad-to-be or your family is growing. This program is for all co- parents, regardless of gender. Help is available if times are tough 2021 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grants Applications are now open for Australian primary schools and early learning centres to apply for a Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant. They are offering 1,000 grants of up to $1,000 each. To apply: 1. Read the Guidelines and Criteria to see if your project idea fits. 2. Obtain endorsement from your school Principal 3. Login or register and start your grant application on the Landcare Australia Grants Site (new portal for 2021). 4. Complete your application online by 5pm (AEST) Friday, 19 March 2021. Vegetable Week and The Big Vegie Crunch Vegetable Week & The Big Vegie Crunch is back for 2021. It's a free, school-based health promotion event that brings excitement to vegetable eating and helps to encourage students, and their families, to eat more veg! Vegetable Week is from Monday 15 March to Friday 19 March 2021 (week 8 of Term 1). The Big Vegie Crunch is on Thursday 18 March at 10am. National Ride2School Day National Ride2School Day is Australia’s biggest celebration of active travel and one of the best days on the school calendar. It’s a day full of fun and colour where students, teachers and parents discover the joy of riding and kick-start healthy habits for the future. National Ride2School Day will be held on Friday 19 March 2021. For more information and to register, click here. Harmony Week Harmony Week is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background. This year, Harmony Week runs from 15 – 21 March 2021. Childcare services, schools, communities, sporting groups and workplaces can all be involved in Harmony Week events. For lesson plans, recipes, games and other ideas, click here. Phenomenom – teacher resources Phenomenom is a free digital toolkit for teachers. The toolkit includes springboard episodes and lesson plans. The Good Mood Food Special • Children can watch a short, animated video about how moods can be controlled by good foods, movement and mindfulness, then challenge their classmate to a ‘Kahoot’!
