COMMANDER’S MESSAGE With the summer months finally here, we are all due some reasons to start feeling good about life! One of the things that I am most excited about is the transformation of the Spotlight Club into the Common Room, including a new outdoor ‘street food’ area. It is a transformation from a facility that, if we are honest, was feeling a bit like 1971 into one that is now definitely looking like 2018. With access for all ranks each weekday until 7pm (Junior Ranks contribute to the operational expeditionary capability and who want to make a difference only after 7pm), it is great output of the Station. EDITOR'S FOREWORD Hello and welcome to this edition of 51 Degrees North. Can you believe it’s June and we are already on issue 5? We have tried to cover as much as we can in this edition, but as always, we are just skimming the surface of what happens at Brize. I strongly encourage you to get involved with as much as you can, there is so much on offer, for example, the Learning Centre Open day (P7) provided station personnel with information on how they can undertake additional learning and development. This is but one of the opportunities at Brize. RAF100 celebrations are in full swing and on the 10 July, the centrepiece of RAF100 will take place with a centenary service in Westminster Abbey, followed by a parade in The Mall and a spectacular flypast over Buckingham palace, which RAF Brize Norton will be heavily contributing to. We will cover Brize’s involvement in a future edition. It looks like Summer is going to be a real scorcher, so I hope you can find time to enjoy it and take time out to rest and recover. Please keep us informed of what you are up to. Take care and all the very best. Sqn Ldr Mark Taylor 51DN Editor Flt Lt Dave Coombs Flt Lt Sarah Margetts FS Becky Hall Mrs Stacey Evans 5
