Managing Editor keenly—as he is often fond of
                      doing—that the word “Social”
has a motley crew of meanings including, Neighborly,
Entertaining, Community, Hospitable and Pleasant.
Hmm…in that case, I don’t think “Social Distancing”
means what we think or want it to mean.
Though this pandemic is producing a plethora
of plans for prevention, it is difficult when it also
prevents us from being social. When the very
fabric of our lives and community seems to be
hanging by a thread and the threatening scissors
of separation and isolation are inching ever closer
to making that final sneering snip.
Nevertheless, while “social” may be a misnomer
for our masked melancholy, may we each do our
best to pass this test—together—and not let
things that matter the most to us be at the mercy
of the things that matter the least. Masks or no
masks, may we each be grateful that we’re only six
feet apart and not six feet under. Despite doubts,
may we each continue to strive to be Neighborly,
Hospitable and Pleasant. Because now more than
ever what we need the most is each other.
