Information Kit
            Junior Hockey Europe 2023
Your departure date is fast approaching and we hope you are as excited as we are!
Below is some important information about your tour. Please read through and
contact us if you have any questions.

Safety and Security

The safety and welfare of all tour members is our priority. We constantly monitor
the advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs (www.dfat.gov.au), airlines, and
our local overseas contacts. We have been advised that it is currently safe to
travel. We will continue to monitor this.

Tour Members and Teams
We have 4 teams travelling with us, 2 girls teams and 2 boys teams. Players will be
placed into a team according to their age and playing level, to ensure they are
playing with and against players of a similar level. Players may move between
teams during the tour depending on form, team balance and the like. All players
are expected to bring a facemask in case they are in a defensive penalty corner
and must wear a mouthguard and shin pads at all times whilst playing

Itinerary and Contact Information

The itinerary will be finalised around 3 weeks prior to departure.
The final itinerary will include a contact list with all accommodation, opponents,
hosts and a 24-hour emergency contact number. Families can use the emergency
number if they need to contact a player on tour. Our staff can usually get in
contact with the tour leader within 10min. Wanderers Australia office staff are in
contact with the tour group daily.

Flight Information and E-Tickets

Flight confirmations and e-tickets will be sent within 3 weeks before departure.

Day of Departure

Players will be departing from their closest capital city and meeting as a squad in
Singapore. Those from Tamworth and south will depart from Sydney unless you are
advised otherwise. Players in Northern NSW will depart from Brisbane. Players
south of Wagga will depart from Melbourne.
All players must wear:
• Wanderers Australia Polo Shirt
• Wanderers Australia Track Suit Pants (If its hot you can wear a pair of
Wanderers walk shorts but you must bring your tracksuit pants with you
• Wanderers Australia Hoodie if you have one , or puffer vest or jacket (please
have in your carry on if not wearing)
All players must have their passport, valuables, cash (amounts detailed below), a
copy of the e-ticket (which will be sent to you closer to departure). Pack a change
of clothes and underwear in case your bag is delayed when we get to London so
you have fresh clothes to wear.

Passports

You should have your passport by now. If Not, then please arrange asap. There is a
backlog to process these at the passports office. Your passport must have at least 6
months before the expiry date remaining at the date of our departure.

We will be requesting a scanned copy of your passport to be emailed to us in late
August. Please take a photo of your passport on your personal phone/tablet/
device.

On all junior tours the tour leader will look after all passports to help avoid loss
once we land in London. All passports during the flight are to be kept in their
pouches around their necks for the entire flight.

Visas

If you do not hold an Australian Passport, please contact us for specific Visa
information.
There are no visas required for any countries we are visiting.
We may be required to complete a travel locator form for certain countries or
decorations regarding covid . We will advise if this is necessary later in the year.

Money/Currency Cards

On departure please have the following amounts in cash:
• AUD $30-$40 to buy food/drink in Singapore
• GBP 50 to buy food/drink straight away
• EUROS n/a…you can change your pounds into Euros on the cruise ship between
   England and Holland.

On the Ferry between England and Holland you will be able to change currency.
Players should bring around $1200 AUD spending money, about $300-$400 per
week. This will cover: entry costs, any meals not covered, souvenirs.

Do not have all of your money in one place. Players need multiple ways to access
their money. We recommend having 50% of their money on a pre-paid currency
card, and the remaining 50% in an account with a card that has ‘CIRRUS’ access
(this is part of a large network of ATMs). Prepaid travel cards do not work
everywhere. You need to be able to get cash out of an ATM on tour.

    • Any liquids/gels in your hang luggage can only be 100mL MAX
    • Drinks and snacks must be purchased after security.

Excess baggage charges are high, and there is no way of avoiding them. On return
to Australia ALL of your baggage must be under 30kg. Packing light for departure is
the best way to avoid excess baggage charges. If you are over, you will have to pay.
If you turn up at the airport on day one and your luggage is at its limit, you cant
buy anything ! Your normal bag should be no more than 18 KG when you arrive at
    your Australian airport

    Hosts

It is likely there will be times during the tour when players will be hosted by
opposition teams. At this stage we cannot confirm on how many occasions this will
be, but it is likely to be 4-5 occasions, for 1-2 nights at a time. Please arrange to
bring a small gift and thank you card for each of your hosts as a sign of your
appreciation of their hospitality. Gifts can be small pin, tea towel, magnet,
keyring, – with an Australian theme!

outside. You can wear your own compression shirts underneath provided they are
green or black or yellow

Contacting Home
All players must bring a mobile phone on tour with them. It can be very expensive
to make and receive calls and texts, there are 2 options to reduce these costs:
1. Ensure the phone is not locked to a network. Players can purchase a local pre-
paid sim card upon arrival. Please note sometimes it can be difficult to do this
on the first day of the tour as we are full on and on the go.
2. Contact your network provider in Australia and pre-purchase a pre-paid travel
roaming pack. You can usually get these for between $5-10 a day
WIFI is very good while travelling and is a great and cheap way to contact home.
Facebook Messenger is by far the easiest way to stay connected.
We will be using WhatsApp on tour for a squad group and a supporters group so all
persons must have a phone.
Insurance

Insurance is included in your tour cost and there is no need to get additional
coverage for the tour. Our insurance is with leading underwriter for corporate
travel HDI. It means one policy number for everyone. We have attached the
schedule to your info pack email. There are no forms to fill out, we just need to
supply dates of birth, and any pre existing medical conditions which we will do
later in the year

Some of the key coverage per person

Overseas medical and medical evacuation: $unlimited
Additional Expenses: $100,000
Baggage: $12000 in total
Personal Liability : $10 Million

Covid 19 cover is included for medical above

There is a nil excess on the policy except for electronic items which is $250.00

For any electrical good, make sure you have the receipts or proof of purchase at
home in case you need to make a claim. Best to take a photo with a newspaper on
the day that you are ready to depart to show proof of ownership.

VERY IMPORTANT FOR ANYONE STAYING LONGER…..

Unfortunately we are no longer able to provide insurance coverage for any
additional time spent after the tour. You will need to source this independently of
Wanderers Australia.

Medical

A medical form containing all medical details and a personal authorisation for
administering medication in case of necessity will be sent to you for completion.
If you have a medical condition for which drugs or treatment is required, we MUST
know about prior to departure.
On tour:
For non-emergencies, like a cold, players will need to pay upfront to see a GP/
Doctor, keep the receipt and claim when they return to Australia.
In emergencies, the tour manager will ring our emergency insurance contact and
receive instructions on what to do. Our insurers have medical contacts in the
countries we are visiting.
Claims are required by our insurers to be made within 30 days of any incident
occurring. Claims take approx. 2 weeks to finalise.

Code of Conduct

All tour members (family members touring included) must sign the Wanderers
Australia Code of Conduct before departing Australia. Please read and understand
the code of conduct before signing, as any breach can result in a player being sent
home.

Supporters
As supporters and staff are staying in hotels for the majority of the time it can be
harder to do washing. Hotel washing services are expensive, and with a jam-
packed tour it can be hard to make time to visit a laundromat. Please be prepared
to wash small items in your hotel room sink if you wish to avoid costly hotel
washing services.
The tour involves a lot of walking, start training now. Most days on tour the group
will be walking up to 10kms!
