BRITISH OPEN 2019 - IRELAND TOUR ITINERARY Whether it was watching Seve Ballesteros play a recovery shot to tap in distance from the most impossible circumstances, watching Tom Watson & Jack Nicklaus slug it out like heavy weight boxers on a Sunday afternoon or seeing Tiger Woods blitz the field at the peak of his powers, The Open Championship well and truly harvests golfing folk law. So instead of turning into a nocturnal species this July, why not come on this ‘5 star’ golfing tour and play some of the greatest golf courses that Ireland has to offer and witness The Open being played in Northern Ireland for the first time in 68 years. Monday - 8th July • Arrive • Carton House (Montgomerie) • Guinness Brewery Tour • Carton House – Guinness Store House (26 min drive) • Night at Carton House The start of our Mystic Irish journey begins with A.G.T collecting you from the airport or your hotel depending on when you are arriving in the Irish Isles. Once checked into our hotel at the Carton House estate we can get out and play on the Colin Montgomerie designed golf course which is situated on the estate grounds. Having hosted the Irish Open in 2005 Carton House is ranked the 25th best golf course in the whole of Ireland. This tree lined park land beauty will be one of the few golf courses on the tour that is protected from the wind. After our round of golf it is time to get acquainted with the most iconic Irish export in the world. The delicious black gold that is Guinness. We will drive into Dublin and go on the brewery tour of the Guinness factory and learn everything we need to know about what goes into making a Guinness and more importantly, the correct specialised way to pour a pint. Tuesday - 9th July • Breakfast • Royal County Down Golf Club (Championship) • Carton House – Royal County Down (2 hour drive) • Night at Carton House Royal County Down Golf Club is simply one of the best golf courses on the planet. Always ranking in the top 5 courses in the world according to Golf Digest and Golf Magazine it sometimes actually takes out top spot in their 2 year voting cycles. A short ride over the boarder in Newcastle, Northern Ireland it was first ready for play in 1890 designed by the one and only Old Tom Morris. A.G.T. Ireland Tour 2019 3
Wednesday - 10th July • Breakfast • County Louth Golf Club • Gaelic Football match at Croke Park • Carton House – County Louth Golf Club (1 hour drive) • Carton House – Croke Park (30 min Drive) • Night at Carton House County Louth Golf Club is ranked the 10th best golf course in Ireland. First ready for play in 1892 the golf club is barely 50km out of Dublin. A quintessential Irish links that is renowned for having some of the best and most challenging greens in all of Ireland. After freshening up back at Carton House it is time go and experience Ireland’s indigenous game of Gaelic Football at the hallowed turf of Croke Park that holds a capacity of 82,300 people and has been hosting matches since 1884. A combination of Australian Football and Football (Soccer) it requires players to be able to kick, handball, shepherd and run their hearts out in order to put the ball in the back of the net or over the posts for points. Thursday - 11th July • Breakfast • Portmarnock Golf Club (Championship) • Johnnie Fox’s Pub – Dinner and Hooley Show • Carton House – Portmarnock Golf Club (36 min drive) • Carton House – Johnnie Fox’s Pub (39 min drive) • Night at Carton House Portmarnock Golf Club is a pure Irish links that uses the natural features of the local terrain. Having hosted important events such as The Irish Open, The Canada Cup & The Walker Cup this golf course which is ranked in the top 60 in the world has a prestigious history as the premier golf course on the East coast of Ireland. Johnnie Fox’s Pub is the quintessential Irish experience. With traditional Irish music and river dancing playing every night this pub is famed for being the highest pub in Ireland. A.G.T. Friday - 12th July • Breakfast • K Club (Palmer Ryder Cup) • Depart: Dublin • Arrive: Galway • Carton House – K Club (17 min drive) • K Club – Galway (2 hour drive) • Night at The Galmont The Arnold Palmer designed K Club is most famous for hosting the Ryder Cup in 2006 where Europe dominated the Americans 18 ½ to 9 ½. This Ryder Cup had extra significance with local Irishman Darren Clarke returning to the competitive golf for the first time after the passing of his wife Heather. This opulent resort boasts the 20th best golf course in Ireland and will be the last time on the tour that you will have the safeguard of trees protecting you from the elements. After golf it is time to cross country from the East to the West coast and experience the famous town of Galway. An amazing town that boasts more pubs than you can poke a stick at.... and that is saying something for Ireland!!! Saturday - 13th July • Breakfast • Depart: Galway • Cliffs of Moher • Lahinch Golf Club • Arrive: Westbrook House • Galway – Cliffs of Moher (1 hour 30 min drive) • Cliffs of Moher – Lahinch (12 min drive) • Lahinch – Westbrook House (30 min Drive) • Night at Trump International After breakfast it is time to see one of the most iconic Irish landscapes, The Cliffs of Moher. Rising 120 meters above the Atlantic Ocean at Hag’s Head this tourist attraction entices over 1 million tourists every year and is one of the must see attractions in all of Ireland. Lahinch Golf Club is one of the most amazing naturally routed golf courses in the world. With so many natural great features it is no wonder that different architects such as Old Tom Morris and Dr Alister MacKenzie over the years have turned this golf course one of the best in the world. Sunday - 14th July • Breakfast • Trump International Golf Links • Westbrook House – Trump International (45 min drive) • Trump International – Ballybunion (1 hour 55 min) • Night at The Cliff House Hotel ‘Making Golf Great Again’ at Trump International Golf Links in Doonbeg. According to the President he has the best golf course in Ireland.... According to the magazines he has the 6th. Well there is only one way to find out and play it ourselves. Monday - 15th July • Breakfast • Ballybunion Golf Club (Old) • Night at The Cliff House Hotel Ballybunion Golf Club is renowned the world over as the best golf course in the Republic of Ireland and ranking in many golf publications as a top 25 golf course in the world. First laid out in 1893 this Irish gem is truly something special. Hugging along the Atlantic Ocean this course is quite the exhilarating test when mother nature decides to blow some wind. Tuesday - 16th July • Breakfast • Depart: Ballybunion • Tralee Golf Club • Arrive: Waterville • Ballybunion – Tralee (28 min drive) • Tralee – Waterville (1 hour 45 min) • Night at Waterville House Tralee Golf Club was opened for play in 1984 and designed by Arnold Palmer. The course hugs the coast line with beautiful views of the ocean and beach. The golf course is not the only place in Tralee that resonates beauty, Tralee is world famous for the Irish beauty pageant called the ‘Rose of Tralee’. Wednesday – 17th July • Breakfast • Waterville Golf Links • Waterville – Kinsale (2 hours 45 min drive) • Night Kinsale Penthouse Waterville Golf Links in the Ring of Kerry is also renowned world over as one of the best courses in the world. It used to be one of the late Payne Stewart’s most favourite golf courses where he always came to play and practice before going onto the The Open Championship. The have a statue of the great man outside the club house. Thursday - 18th July • Breakfast • Old Head Golf Links • Kinsale – Old Head Golf Links (23 min drive) • Night at Kinsale Penthouse Old Head Golf Links is one of the most modern golf links we will playing on the tour and to boot it is one of the most spectacular. Hugging along a cliff face of a peninsula it feels like they have put a golf course right along the top of the Cliffs of Moher. With waves of the Atlantic Ocean crashing on the rocks below and sea birds searching for lunch this truly makes you feel like you are playing on the edge of the earth. Friday - 19th July • Breakfast • Depart: Kinsale • Blarney Stone • Arrive: Wicklow • Kinsale – Blarney Stone (40 min drive) • Blarney Stone – Wicklow (3 Hour Drive) • Night at Arklow Bay Hotel The Blarney Stone is a block of Carboniferous limestone that is built into the battlements of Blarney Castle. Saturday - 20th July • Breakfast • European Club • Depart: Wicklow • Arrive: Belfast • Wicklow – Belfast (2 hour 30min drive) • Night at The Radisson Like Barnbougle Lost Farm in Tasmania, The European Club is a 20 hole links. Sometimes in life 18 holes just isn’t enough. Ranked the 4th best golf course in Ireland Rory McIlroy took out the Irish Amateur Championship here in 2006. For the history buffs Belfast has a lot to offer considering it’s role in the ‘Irish Troubles’ and also being birth place of the Titanic. If you aren’t into history not to worry, they still have an unlimited amount of pubs and love Guinness just as much! Sunday - 21st July • Breakfast • Giant’s Causeway • 4th Round - The Open • Belfast – Giant’s Causeway (1 hour 15 min drive) • Giant’s Causeway – Royal Portrush (20 min drive) • Night at The Radisson Before heading to see The Open Championship we will scoot via the Giant’s Causeway which is an area of 40,000 interlocking basalt columns of an ancient volcanic eruption. The declared Unesco World Heritage site is truly something special. The highlight of our Irish tour will be attending the 147th Open Championship at Royal Portrush which is being staged in Northern Ireland for the first time in 68 years and only the 2nd time in history. With Irish major winners such as Rory McIlroy, Darren Clarke, Graham Mcdowell & Pádraig Harrington there is real chance a local hero might come away with the Claret Jug. Monday - 22nd July • Good bye • Belfast – Dublin (1 hour 52 min drive) After 2 weeks of doing a loop around Ireland and playing some of the best golf courses in the world it time for the Irish tour to come to an end. In the case of a situation such as this the accommodation and golf courses will be substituted with a similar standard.
