We need someone to help us craft, print, and mail out thank you notes to people who send in donations to PAW. We have samples of what has been used in the past that you can use as a starting point, but really need some fresh ideas. This is not a labor-intensive volunteering opportunity, but it is VERY important. Our donors enable PAW to save lives. If interested, please contact Robin Vinopal at accounting@paw-rescue.org Page 3 of 11
PAW This Week November 10, 2020 December 1: #GivingTuesday is Almost Here! #GivingTuesday is right around the corner! Stay tuned for more information about how to join us for the year's greatest day of giving! ____________________________________________________________________ We hope you're able to find time to take care of yourself this week. We know these days, weeks, and months have been difficult for so many, especially those working on the front lines. Take some time to snuggle with a dog, cat, or equine. Go on a walk somewhere you enjoy. Practice self-care. And check out these online resources to help you and your staff address compassion fatigue: • ASPCApro Online Course: Caring this Much is Exhausting! The Emotional Challenges of Working in an Animal Shelter or Rescue Environment (Use enrollment key "aspcapro" if registering for the first time) • Animalsheltering.org: Caring for animals means caring for yourself • AWAA: Going Through Hell? Keep Going! Series ____________________________________________________________________ Pet Valu going belly up (Information received through Montgomery County Store Reporter Newsletter 11/5/2020). Despite the fact that nearly everyone you know has adopted a dog or cat during the pandemic, the Pet Valu retail chain is going out of business after 25 years. The Pennsylvania-based company says coronavirus “significantly impacted” its sales, and all 358 stores will be closing — including the ones at Cabin John Village, Laurel and Fallsgrove. Clearance sales begin this weekend. ____________________________________________________________________ Page 4 of 11

A Holistic Approach to Health & Behavior Issues - Saturday, November 14, 3:00 – 5:00. Has your easygoing puppy become fearful? Are you frustrated with your adult dog’s over-the-top activity? Do you lose sleep because of your elderly dog’s restlessness at night? These and other behavior challenges can be correlated to health problems, such as food allergies or skin diseases. At the same time, behavior problems or behavioral changes can be early warning signs of developing health risks, such as cardiac disease or vaccine reactions. Speaker Terri Grow draws on her Traditional Chinese Medicine training and holistic pet care experience to help you understand and use holistic methods to care for your pet. Case studies demonstrating how foods can be used as therapies, the benefits and cautions of medicinal herbs, and other natural remedies will be discussed. Speaker: Terri Grow ; www.PetSage.com Please click to register in advance so that we can email you the info you’ll need to join the webinar. Advice for Adopters – monthly guidance for adopters, potential adopters & fosters – Sunday, November 15, 2:00 – 4:00. Learn how to make life with your adopted dog easier and more fun! PAW This Week November 10, 2020 CRITICAL NEED OF FOSTER HOMES COSMO is a 3-year old, 48-pound Treeing Walker Coonhound. He is small for his breed and the good news is he is full grown!! He has some energy to him and would make a good jogging buddy. He is also very sweet, playful and with a swipe of his paw on your arm he lets you know that he wants some loving! If you are interested in fostering COSMO, please contact Tracy Crotty at mtetm@yahoo.com. AVA is an 8 month old. 51 pound Labrador Retriever mix. She is a friendly girl but can be shy at times. She responds well to reassurances. She can be a little apprehensive meeting new dogs. If you are interested in fostering AVA, please contact Tracy Crotty at mtetm@yahoo.com. ROCKY was recently returned to PAW after three years with his adoptive family. He is very scared and shy. The family decided they didn’t want to work on his fears. We are still learning about him but know that he is a 75-pound Coon Hound and in desperate need of a stable situation. If you are interested in fostering ROCKY, please contact Dave Campbell at dog- coordinator@paw-rescue.org. Page 7 of 11
PAW This Week November 10, 2020 DAVINA is a 2 year old, 46 pound, husky mix with beautiful eyes. She is new to PAW and we will update as we get to know her. If interested in fostering DAVINA, please contact Dave Campbell at dog-coordinator@paw- rescue.org. GUS is a 6 month old (as of October), 40 pound, hound mix. Gus is a bit timid; he was found in an empty lot where he’d spent his first 5 months of life until he was rescued. He will warm up once he gets to know you! We will update this once we get to know him better. If interested in fostering GUS, please contact Dave Campbell at dog-coordinator@paw-rescue.org. BENTLEY is a 3 year old, 75 pound Red Tick/ Coonhound mix. He is sweet and loving and loves to be around other dogs. Please note that due to his size he would not be good with children under 15. He is new to PAW and we will update as we get to know him better. If you are interested in fostering BENTLEY, please contact Tracy Crotty at mtetm@yahoo.com. Page 8 of 11
