William Stukeley Church of England Primary School In our happy, caring and safe school, our teachers will inspire learning, support us to achieve success and create lifelong values, characteristics and ambitions Welcome Back We hope everyone had a wonderful summer holiday. We have had a great start to the new term and once again it looks to be an exciting year. We give a special welcome to everyone who has recently joined the school; to our new children and their families and to Mrs Thorpe, who has become the newest member of our teaching team. We also welcome back Mrs Sandell and Mrs Stanberry. Building Works As you may recall, because of pupil numbers, the school is due to begin a small extension. So far, we have experienced a collection of surveys and trial pits; the actual work has not yet been scheduled. We’ll keep you informed as soon as we know. You may already know that we have moved our library into Holbeach Library (in Church Street, opposite Laddies). Many children have visited the library and we do hope to run a club or two from this location. The use of the library is exclusive to the school, but in time we’d hope to be more community minded. Values Education This term’s Value is Sharing. Children have begun by looking at stories in the bible (Loaves & Fishes and Good Samaritan). We have considered how ‘sharing’ can boost our personal well-being and when we give our time, love, friendship, advice or whatever, what we’re doing is telling others who we really are! We have also learned that when we share with others, we’re actually creating more happiness, gratitude and trust. “We can take two paths when challenged by life, we can sit alone or open our hearts and immediately feel better…” Harvest Festival Church Service Our Harvest Festival Service is being held at All Saints Church, Holbeach on Friday 19th October at 9:00am. You will need to take your child straight to church in the morning; staff will be there to supervise the children from 8:45am. Parents/carers are welcome to stay. As usual we will be collecting items for Holbeach Community Larder. The Community larder wish list will come out, nearer the time. Individual and Family Photos Wrates Photography will be in school on Monday 1st October to take individual and sibling group photographs. Due to the lack of space this year, we are unable to offer the opportunity of photographs with younger pre-school siblings. Free School Meals (Pupil Premium) If your situation changes and you consider applying for Free School Meals, the application process has been reviewed. Previously, schools made the application, however, Lincolnshire County Council now request parents/carers go online. If you need to apply, please follow this link: https://lcc.cloud.servelec-synergy.com/parentportal If you need any help completing the online registration form or have any questions, simply contact the school office. There can also be a benefit to the school when parents/carers apply and their application is successful as the school will receive additional funding (Pupil Premium). If we’re lucky enough to receive Pupil Premium, it helps us financially, with things like securing teaching assistants to further support our children.
William Stukeley Church of England Primary School Breakfast Club Children can arrive at any time between 8:00am and 8:45am but please note the last breakfast is served at 8.30am. You can choose to send your children every day or simply choose the days that suits you best – there is no need to pre-book, children can just turn-up on the day! The cost is £2.00 per session; this can be paid made on the day or in advance. This fee still applies to children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 who are entitled to Universal infant Free School Meals. However, if your child is entitled to free school meals, our Pupil Premium will cover the cost. Please do not arrive before 8.00am and then leave your child unattended. Attendance and Punctuality Last year, our whole school attendance was 95.63% this is an increase in school absence on the previous year and further away from our target of 97% (the national level). We need to remember, for our school to reach 97% we need to ensure that children’s time out of school is only for illness or exceptional circumstances. Lateness also needs to be considered as ‘on time to school’ really does matter; school doors open at 8.45am and school learning begins at 8.55am. Contact details We will soon be sending home a Student Update Form for you to check through and return. To ensure we have your correct contact details it is really important that you inform the office of any changes to your contact phone numbers; this is really important should we need to contact you in an emergency situation. If you are able to provide another contact (in case we are unable to contact you) please provide their details too.
