Principle of the formicobio™ technology Basic concept In a low temperature and pressure, Pure cellulose is easily Conventional fermentation Cellulose is purified by biosolvent selectively dissolves main hydrolysed to glucose with of glucose to ethanol and washing with water components of biomass except cellulose. minor enzyme consumption separation of ethanol Biosolvent Water Non-food biomass Ethanol Cellulose Glucose formicodeli™ Washing Fermentation & Hydrolysis distillation Water Evaporation formicopure™ Flowrate, t Spent liquor is Washing liquors and a part of vaporized biosolvent are distilled into Biomass 1000 (dry) evaporated and dried. Vaporized biosolvent is Acetic acid water and concentrated biosolvent. Acetic acid and furfural, which are Ethanol 170 directly recycled for re-use Furfural generated during delignification and Acetic acid 30 evaporation, are recovered as valuable Dry biofuel co-products Dry, lignin-rich biofuel is Furfural 70 combusted at an on-site Power power plant that generates Biocoal 520 plant steam and electricity for the biorefinery. 6 12th March 2019 © 2019 Chempolis.
