ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Parents and Players 47
Tip #1 (and only 1!!) High School years will go by very fast… 48
MY GOALS FOR EACH OF YOU ON THIS JOURNEY! Please watch, support and encourage your daughter’s growth, her play and her desire to compete in an athletic event at a high level Be proud of her accomplishments!! Adversity is an opportunity to learn and develop when that time comes Be her biggest fan through the good times and bad 49
PARENTS ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES You all want the best for your kid - (I get it….Have two that have played college athletics at very high levels) We all know you know more than your coach :) - I get that too, BUT……. Your job is a silent encourager Let your athlete communicate with her coaches .... Not you! Please follow proper chain of command of communication Playing time is not discussed No coaching from the stands! 24 hour Rule is not an option! 50
Additional PARENT INFO 2021 will be the fastest season on record! Family is most important institution to me but show consideration to team Please respect the coaches rules on transportation Limited Buses and Vans in 2021 You must have Transportation form on le to transport child Maintain the Grades to play in 2021! Team Photos in late Feb - JP Westerbeck - Packages Support Spirit Wear via Web Site Check Website for info and updates Get involved - everyone can help the program in some fashion 51 fi
PLAYER ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES Its not what I can get from team this but what I can give to the team….. Your Character is the top priority to your team, school and yourself! Coaches are approachable - Please communicate directly with them Missed practices and games - Each coach has own rules Playing time & expectations will be between the coach and athlete Passing Grades to play Expect to participate in team events if allowed You represent the school and your team - people are watching Your decisions & actions will result in a typical reaction from someone…so be wise! 52
ROLES, GOALS & DIRECTIVE COACHES 53
COACHES ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES Run a high quality program with the TRUE ownership for the student athlete Develop a culture that their success is not an individual goal but a whole program goal Follow 3D Coaching Philosophies 1D - Fundamentals - Strength, Speed, Technique, Repetition 2D- Psychology - Motivation, Con dence, Goal Setting, Team Cohesion 3D- Heart - Identity, Character, Signi cance, Purpose Develop own team’s rules/requirements Review sport expectations with the athlete during year Health of the athlete and grades will be a top priority 54 fi fi
PROGRAM GOALS Grades and character development are the most important goals College is around the corner for many … HS Softball should be the baseline that will help a player manage those life tasks that are around the corner for each one College recruiting is changing - quali ed and respected HS coaches are more involved. We are here to help the athlete Oiler Alumni that I have coached are VERY important in this journey and they will always be looked to mentor our athletes and support the program “You give me 4, I give you 40” is my mission statement with these players HBHS Softball has a pretty cool culture….And it was not by accident! 55 fi
