Why we do it…
A safe place for kids to realize their
                      potential

       Core Values:

       • Family environment

       • Opportunities for all

       • Substance over style

       • Kid first, athlete second

       • Clean & safe gymnastics experience

       How we place your gymnast…

Physical readiness: An assessment is made of strength, flexibility, endurance, agility,
quickness and suppleness.

Emotional and psychological readiness: These attributes are observable in a subjective
way, as opposed to objectivity. They readily indicate the child’s ability to overcome
reasonable fears and to make quick, yet sound judgments while striving to achieve their
goals.

Present skill level: By adding anticipated learning to your present skill level, we can then
project your skill readiness for the beginning as well as for the end of your competitive
season.

Proprietary movement charts: Through years of experience, we have developed a set of
skills that help determine if an athlete is ready to move to the next level. We inform the
gymnast of these “required” skills throughout the season as this is no secret.

                                                              GW Team Handbook, Page 2

Frequently Asked Questions:
What is the annual processing fee and what does it cover?
• Also referred to as “Team Membership Dues”, is a fee paid every year in May that also represents your
commitment to the program for the upcoming year.
• This fee covers all required memberships, dues, insurances, etc. for the athletes and a portion of the
required coverage’s for their coaches. It also covers special related expenses for athletes and staff as well
as additional administrative time and costs.

How much will my uniform cost?
• Girls uniform costs run between $300.00 - $450.00. We keep the same uniform for at least 2 years
  • Includes, the leotard, capri pants and warm up jacket. Back Pack is optional.
• Boys uniform costs run between $200-$250. We keep the same uniform for at least 2 years.
  • Includes competition tank, shorts, pants, warmup jacket, warmup pants (not provided by Gym World)

Do I get a rate reduction because my athlete is attending Summer Camps and we are going on
vacation?
• No. It would be impossible for our business to operate successfully if we pro-rated all family choices and
decisions. Please understand that our business expenses do not decrease if your athlete goes to camp and
as a result we will be unable to lower your monthly tuition.

Are there make up days for Team? What about our family vacation time?
• No. It is expected for athletes to have full attendance at all scheduled practices, and there are no make-up
opportunities or financial credits to account.

How many competitions will my athlete have and when will the schedule come out?
• Although each level differs, in a traditional season we average 7-10 competitions per year, including State
  Meet, Regionals and Nationals.
• Traditionally, you will receive your schedule in September or October. Due to the unknown effects of
Covid 19, the 2021 season still has many unknowns.

Do I have to attend all the Competitions?
• Yes…and No. All competitions are required with the exception of ones that we declare as “Choice
Competitions”. i.e. the Bahamas meet or a bus trip meet would be a “Choice Competition”.
• You may of course opt out of a required competition but please understand that you will still be
responsible for your share of the coaches and team expenses.

Do you follow the same schedule through out the year?
• Traditionally, we change to a summer schedule starting around the first weeks of June and transition back
to the School Year Schedule in the middle of August.
• Due to Covid-19, we are uncertain of how the schedule will evolve.

Does my athlete have to choose between Club and High School Gymnastics or can she do both?
• Gym World supports and understands the importance of high school sports and will work with each
athlete to be able to do both a successful club season and high school season

When do you decide the level of my athlete and can she move up or down in the middle of the season?
• Level movement is usually decided before and during the Summer.
• It’s important to understand that Gym World has a standard and each athlete will know specific
requirements to move up a level. It is our experience and knowledge of our sport that ultimately decide
  level movement.

                                                                           GW Team Handbook, Page 5
The Game Plan:
The model athlete …

• Arrives on time. Practice starts at the beginning, your promptness to practice enables
you to take full advantage of the training time. *Due to Covid-19 compliance, being on
time for scheduled practices is necessary for safe training.
• Attends all scheduled practices. Report absences and late arrivals to our front desk,
especially to our families of teenage drivers. From an athlete-centric approach, knows it
is best to plan family vacation time over the scheduled breaks throughout the season.
• Understands the rules of behavior. It is expected that all gymnasts will abide by the
Rules of Behavior as established by Gymnastics World. Failure to comply with these
rules may result in suspension, or dismissal from the team program.

Best Practices-

Communication:

  • Directors and coaches will communicate the majority of time via email and the
private Facebook groups. It is the parent responsibility be sure email address stays
current in your Jack Rabbit user profile.
  • Stay connected on our various social channels and the Gym World App.
  • Face to face time is needed occasionally for either group or individual circumstances.
  • Coaches will communicate directly to parents only. Communication outside of
practice one-on-one between coach and athlete will not occur.

Training:

  • Attendance issues will effect an athletes readiness for competition. The coaching staff
reserves the right to pull an athlete from an event if they have concerns of safety and
preparedness. This may result in loss of paid fees associated with event.
  • Attire for practices:
    • Girls in leotards and tights, hair up with jewelry off or out. One pair of stud earrings
      allowed for practice.
    • Boys must be in athletic shorts/pants and t-shirt/tank, all jewelry off or out.
  • Summer camps can be a fun experience for athletes, but please try to schedule on
weeks the gym is shut down.
  • Choreography of optional level beam and floor routines is additional time scheduled
in the gym. Please refer to the Choreography Handout received at team placements or
ask the director for more information. All routines must be done by October 1. *Due
to Covid-19 this date may adjust.

                                                              GW Team Handbook, Page 6
Competition:

 • Attendance is expected at all scheduled meets in a season. If a family elects to not
send athlete(s) to a scheduled meet for reasons outside of injury or extreme case, they
will still be liable for all associated meet fees. Written notification required to director
if athlete unable to attend event, if request to drop occurs post registration deadline for
an event a $25 service charge will be placed on the account.
 • Gymnasts are to remain with their team during competition, until the coach dismisses
them at the conclusion of the awards ceremony. We discourage parent/athlete contact
during competitions to help athlete maintain focus.
 • Parents must remain in spectator areas at all times and never enter the competition
   area.
 • Coaches are the only ones permitted to approach a judge or official with a question
regarding the evaluation of a routine. Disciplinary action will happen if athlete or
   parent violate this practice.
 • Lodging accommodations for out-of-town competitions will be communicated.
Athletes are asked to follow a 10:00 curfew the night before a meet and limit
swimming in pools till post-competition times.
 • Attire for competitions:
   • Team warm-up suit, leotard/uniform with black or nude color undergarments. All
other accessories must be team issued and/or coach approved for uniformity.
   • Girls are permitted to wear one pair of stud earrings for meet. This is the only
jewelry allowed at all times of the competition.
   • Travel attire requires appropriate clothing that represents Gymnastics World and its
families in good taste and family friendly.

Off the mat:

 • Gymnastics World hosts an annual Awards Day to celebrate at the end of each season.
 • Opportunities for demonstrations can happen throughout the season. Team members
& families are asked time to time to volunteer their time for special events and home
   meets.
 • College-bound athletes will be assisted by the coaches in obtaining a scholarship or
walk-on status. Level 9 & 10 athletes in the 8th grade or higher should complete a
video reel on a social platform. Athletes must be as successful scholastically as
athletically to ensure the most opportunity in college placement.

                                                              GW Team Handbook, Page 7
Wellness:

 • Conditioning exercises are what create the best gymnasts. The health and success of
athletes is a direct connection to the level of their strength and flexibility.
 • Nutrition fuels success on and off the mat. Athletes should bring snacks for long
practices along with a filled water bottle.
 • A healthy mindset of athletes is just as important as a strong body. From our “psycho-
babble” rotations to coach led goal setting, the brain is heavily involved in our
   training.
 • Athletic training needs should be attended to outside of scheduled practice times.
Athletes whom need an ankle taped, etc. should report to gym prior to scheduled
practice. Tape, pre-wrap and your basic accessories available in our Pro Shop.
 • Injury maintenance and care must be a priority to ensure a healthy, safe and fast return
to play. It is the athletes responsibility to report any injuries to the coaching staff. If an
athlete is to miss two consecutive weeks or more of training due to an injury, a
Medical Excuse Form must be completed to receive credit on account.
 • Hand care is something all gymnasts know. We recommend moisturizing outside of
practice times to prevent dry, cracking skin from chalk use and swinging on bars.
Please ask coaches for how to care for “rips” and safety checks on grips.

part of being an athlete and good person.
