Kiwi Masters Ice Hockey Tournament Kiwi Mas Ice Hockey Ice Hockey Tour Programme 2019 Dates: 6th - 9th March 2019 (Wednesday - Saturday) Venue: The Dunedin Ice Stadium, 101 Victoria Road, Dunedin 1
“Minor sports in the community is fun and recreation for everyone, not just the elite. I think back to my days in minor hockey and those are my fondest memories, having fun.” Bobby Orr “The biggest thing for me is the passion that I’ve always had for hockey. I remember growing up, no matter what I did in life, my parents always told me to try to do my best at it and be my best. I can say going through different things that that passion is the most important part. It’s not skills or talent or any of that stuff.” Sidney Crosby Welcome Welcome ice hockey players, families and friends, to the 2019 Kiwi Master’s Ice Hockey Tournament. Welcome to Dunedin where we hope you will enjoy the tournament but also the wider Dunedin area with its beautiful beaches and landscapes. All the best for a safe and enjoyable tournament! The 2019 Kiwi Masters Games Ice Hockey Organising Committee 2
Tournament organisation ´´See the Kiwi Masters Tournament website for details: www.kiwimasters.co.nz ´´Dressing/Changing Rooms: Dressing room assignments are noted by number (1-4) in the playing schedule. As a courtesy please leave the rooms tidy for the next team. These rooms are past the two rinks, down the far end of the building from the main entrance. ´´Results: There will be a results board in the Mezzanine Lobby overlooking the rink. ´´Food and drink (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be available in the upstairs lobby at the rink. (Cash and EFTPOS.) Only alcohol purchased at the rink may be consumed at the rink as a condition of our bar license. ´´Temporary Gear Storage: A room is available near the curling rink, behind the pro-shop, as a place for players to leave their gear during the day. We have never heard of any gear going missing from here, but the rink is open to the public, so this is done at your own risk. (This can be hard to find – just ask.) ´´Skate sharpening will be available on an intermittent basis - ask rink staff. ´´First Aid equipment is available from the rink staff if necessary. First Aid is also available for all Masters Games participants at the Edgar Centre nearby. ´´Free pizza will be provided after the final game of the tournament. ´´The medal ceremony will take place approximately 30 minutes after the final game. 3
Key Contacts Walter von Ballmoos walter@vitalcolour.co.nz (022-358-3209) Dave Patchett dpatchett@shcs.school.nz (027-684-2129) Referee-in-Chief: Kyle Matthews Head Scorer: Jackie Christos The above contacts will be in and around the rink to help with any questions/issues. Tournament structure and points system There are separate A Grade and B Grade competitions. The 5 A Grade teams play a round robin in preparation for finals. The B Grade teams are split into 2 seeding groups and play a round robin to determine places. The teams then move into finals according to these placings. Medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams in the A grade and B grade. All games which are tied at the end of regular time will finish without further play, with the exceptions below. Medal deciding games (i.e. games 35-38) will go to 5 minutes of 3 on 3 golden goal extra time, followed by a shoot-out if scores remain tied. 4
When deciding the placings of teams at the end of any round robin the following rules apply: ´´Team gains 2 points for each game won, and 1 point for each game tied. After the round robin teams are ranked first on the basis of points. ´´When two teams have the same number of points at the end of any round robin, the team to be placed higher will be the winner of the game between the two teams, then, the team with the better goal difference over the round robin, then, the team with the fewest penalty minutes during the round robin, then, the team with the fewest penalty minutes during the game between the two teams. If this fails to separate the teams the tournament committee will bring team representatives together for a coin toss. ´´When three or more teams have the same number of points at the end of any round robin, the teams will be ranked by goal difference over the round robin, then if necessary by, penalty minutes during the round robin. If this fails to separate any of the teams the tournament committee will bring team representatives together for a coin toss or drawing of lots. The goal difference to be applied in the case of any default will be either, the mean average of the goal differences of all the non-default games within that round robin, plus 1, or the actual goal difference for the game if this is larger (and in favour of the team defaulted to). 5
Tournament Rules ´´Team sheets: Team managers must provide a numbered team list/roster for the scorers before their first game, and an updated list for any later games where there is any change in roster/player numbers. If a team roster (with numbers) is unchanged from that given in the tournament programme then a team sheet is not required. ´´Eligible players: Any dispensations for players outside the age restrictions must have been formally agreed by the tournament committee and be stictly necessary for the successful running of the tournament. Players cannot play for more than one team without the permission of the tournament organisers. ´´Defaults and Agreed Defaults: Teams which fail to have a goal-tender and 5 skaters on the ice in time for puck drop default their game. If due to injury, or any other reason, a team is finding it difficult to place enough players on the ice for an enjoyable game then they may ask the tournament committee to agree that they default that game in advance. This allows the defaulting team to invite players from other teams, in the same grade or lower, to play for the defaulting team, on a one-off basis, up to a maximum of 2 full lines. The committee and scorers must be kept fully informed of the invited players who agree to play for a defaulting team, on a game by game basis, and the committee reserves the right to veto invited players in the interests of enjoyable play. ´´Game timing: 5 minute warm-up, 3 x 15 minute periods, 2 minutes b/w periods. If the goal difference is 2 or less going into the last 2 minutes of the 3rd period then the clock will be stopped during stoppages in play during these last 2 minutes. Please clear the ice promptly to allow plenty of time for the ice to set for the next game. ´´Rules of play: No-checking, no slap shots (no windup above the knee). Three penalties for a player in a single game results in the player being ejected for the remainder of that game. We will be operating under NZIHL rules and the organising committee reserves the right to impose disciplinary sanctions to ensure an enjoyable and safe tournament for all. Tournament Referee-in-Chief is Kyle Matthews. 6
Notes ´´It is important that teams check the results following the round robins in order to find out the time of their final game. ´´Uniforms: in the event of a colour clash the team designated as the visiting team will be asked to wear an “alternate” strip (we will try to have a set of white and dark uniforms available). Team Managers are asked to check opposition uniforms before the game but ultimately the referees will determine if alternative strips are required. Please provide a Team player list including jersey numbers to the ladies in the score box if not available in our programme. 7
