Home Learning German Week beginning 1st June Here are the home learning activities for this week in German. All materials are at the end of this document, which are clearly labelled. Even students at GCSE struggle with this. How high can you count in German? Click on the link and remind yourself of the rules. Skills: Telling the time in German can be very tricky and although we covered this when talking about school it’s important to make sure we remember it. Click on the following link and read the notes, watch the videos and work through the exercises to help you revise this important skill. It could be the type of schools, what they learn, the length of the lessons, what they eat or even the uniform they wear. (30 mins) Year FILMS 8 Retention: Make a list in German of at least 20 adjectives which can be used to describe films (positive or negative) (15 mins) Skills: Watch these 5 German film trailers. Although they are in German you should still be able to understand them. Year Retention: the verbs ‘haben = to have’ and ‘sein = to be’ are so important in German. (30 mins) Skills and Challenge: Complete the quiz on unit 2 of the course, which is attached at the bottom of this page. If you are unsure of any questions, please look up the answers or e-mail your teacher. We have covered all of this in class! Although you won’t understand it all you should certainly be able to identify what it’s talking about. Year Retention: List 20 adjectives from memory, 10 verbs (past, present & future), 5 connectives and 5 intensifiers. 10 Skills and Challenge: Complete 2 photo cards, which are attached at the bottom of this page. Work out what each question means and make sure you get the tense right. Time yourself 12 minutes if you like! Year 9 Resources. These questions are designed to test the key areas of the topic. How much of this can you remember? TECHNOLOGY 1. What is the German for…? a. Dieter tells you: “Ich muss mein Handy immer dabei haben, damit ich mit meinen Freunden in Kontakt bleiben kann.” Translate this into English. 3. You got a new smartphone for your birthday. In German, say two think you use it for using the ‘um…zu…’ construction. 4. Your German friend Anna is talking about technology: “es ist sehr wichtig, einen Laptop zu haben.” In German, say whether you agree with her or not using a nice opinion phrase. 5. In German, give one reasons why tablets are more practical than laptops. 6. Your German exchange partner is trying to use his laptop in a café. He says: “Wie nervig! Das WLAN funktioniert hier nicht und ich muss eine wichtige E-mail schicken”. Say what the problem is in English 7. Könntest du ohne das Internet leben? Answer the question in German. Remember opinion phrases. 8. In German, say that you think the internet is useful, but some young people find it boring. SOCIAL MEDIA 9. What do the following words mean in English? a. Teilen b. die Nachricht c. das Konto e. das Postfach 10. Justin sends you a message: “Ich habe gerade die Fotos von meinem Urlaub hochgeladen. Sie sehen wirklich toll aus.” What has he just done? Answer in English. 11. In German, write down three advantages of social networks. 12. Niko uses social media to keep in touch and chat to friends. How would you say this in German? 13. What does ‘Cybermobbing’ mean in English? 14. In German write down 3 disadvantages of social media. Year 10
